I actually don’t think Gollum is evil. He is just an ordinary person who is lost with temptations. We found ourselves in him. Evil is totally different.

So in the trailer it looks like Legolas and Tauriel come and save the day during the part of Thorin's company and the spiders in Mirkwood. Please don't tell me that's what happens because that was one of my favorite parts in the book with Bilbo and I would hate to see him get pushed back to a minor role while the elves steal the show.

Some spoilers there. Besides what we know from the book, apparently Legolas loves Tauriel and Smaug will be killed by Bard with some contraption, instead of a normal bow (more logical, given Smaugs size in this movie) as seen at 1:45 in a split second. I think the movie will be very good.
Peter Jackson already said that he is mixing writings that never were published before from Tokien's unfinished stories and mixing them into the Hobbit to make it a trilogy. Besides the movie is based on the books but is using it to expand the lore.
I hate going to the cinemas to watch the Hobbit and all these people say the most stupid shit about the movie and Lord of the Rings...it makes me angry listening to bloody hopeless people -_-

You are of course right, I'm aware that Tauriel was brought in to have some female character in the movie, which was also why Galadriel appeared in the first one. I've read the book, I know what you're talking about. ;-) By "unnecessary" I only meant "unnecessary for the story to progress", as it all works without Legolas and Tauriel, but that doesn't mean that I might not enjoy their parts in the movie. It makes sense that they're here, the prince and some Elven woman, no break in logic here.
Calm down, you have no idea how lucky Tolkien fans are for the adaptations they get, just compare it to Eragon fans, have you seen that abomination of a movie? Or the Avatar - The Last Airbender show, ever heard of the movie adaptation? I think it's rather unnecessary to include Legolas and invent a new character (Tauriel) but I also don't think it will do much damage if the rest is good. And Legolas is Thranduil's son after all, so it at least makes sense that he would be there.
For those people who say that Smaug looked like crap in the first trailer, and those who say the orcs and spiders look likewise in this, I say this. The creation of these movies is a long process. They keep editing it even right before the premiere, so not every computer-generated element is going to be Avatar level graphics when the trailer comes out. Everything will look epic when the movie actually comes out.
All the stuff with the Orcs and Legolas etc is from the Silmirrillian. Its all going on in the background of the hobbit and there are plenty of references to in int he book. All the orcs looked like it was the siege of Minas Morgal. Which is going to be so god damn badass.
(In order with the trailer) Bilbo talking to Smaug, the dwarves taken prisoner by the elves and Thranduil, the company scaling Erebor, Bilbo fighting the spiders, Beorn, the company in Laketown, and the escape from Mirkwood in the barrels. Suck it.
The voice of Smaug is far better than I ever imagined! And the armies gathering when Gandalf mentions the Enemy...And when Bilbo mentions the Ring...Everything is looking PERFECT! thank you Mr Jackson! You made my day better, but the wait now is worse!

I grew up with Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy and another trilogy on the hobbit it's to good to be true. Ive seen the retur of the king 13 times at cinema and i'm dying to see the Desolation of Smaug. Benedict Cumberbatch is the best actor of all ( excep for Christipher Lee) and i cant wait to see how he wiill personalised Smaug ( and the necromancer) Thanks Pete for these trilogy no one can do tolkien like you and Phillippa Boyens ( She did such a great job with the scripts) xxx From Montreal
In a way Tauriel was necessary because of the lack of female characters in the novel (the only mention they made of a female is that of Bilbo's late mother and in a rather implicit way Thorin's sister) which is why they had Galadriel in the first movie (to placate feminist critics) and I don't see that farfetch the idea of Legolas being with the group that captured Thorin and Co. The books are completely irrelevant. They inform the major plot direction but the rest is manipulable at the hands the director and writers' artistic license, and rightly so. Gandalf vs Goblin King = Balrog face-off. Azog vs Thorin saved by Bilbo (swap out for Lurtz, Boromir & Aragorn, respectively). Regardless of why the chase sequence is included, why did it have to be so similar? The same goes for so much. Watch both movies again and you'll see it's pretty much xeroxed, except for the riddles
When you mention the Balrog on the bridge, which scene are you connecting it to? (In the trailer, Gandalf running for his life?) I do know that the cross-country chase that was in the first hobbit movie was added (probably because there wasn't much action in the first part if they didn't add it). Which scene are you talking about with the execution? I will admit, it has been a while since I have watched/read LOTR. Gandalf being saved by an Eagle did happen in both books (i think).
There were many direct shots that mirrored Fellowship so closely, it was almost certainly not by accident. The choices made by Jackson (and also Boyens and Walsh, the writers) drew too many close comparisons to Fellowship, and the film suffers hugely for it. And when they included the tedious god-awful washing up sequence, whilst designed to separate the two trilogies in tone, simply wasted time trivialising the story. If it had been more original in many parts it would be a far better film.
Of course I do. That's not what I'm talking about. So many specific moments are lifted directly from the first LOTR movie (Gandalf facing down the big boss on the bridge; cross-country chase sequence; badass hero saved from execution at the last second by a just-in-time hero diving into the big boss; Shire>Rivendell>underground>woodland face-off with artificial boss; Gandalf diving off a high object to be saved by an Eagle>comic scene with money/apple thrown from off screen to a character...
I have watched this trailer 12 times today! Lord of the Rings is my life and I can't wait for The Hobbit. I'm so glad Legolas is in this, though I'm glad Viggo turned down the offer. It will make sense for Legolas to be in this movie but Aragorn not so much. Oh and I am so excited that we finally got to hear Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug! From these first seconds, he seems to be perfect for the part! Anyway, I can't wait to return to Middle Earth this year, everything looks great so far!
Tolkien wanted to re-write the Hobbit after wirting LotR, thats known. Chances are high he would have introduced some characters from LotR like Legolas and Aragorn. Also why shouldn't Legolas be there, he is a Mirkwood Elve and his father is King. Makes totally sense. And I don't get why Legolas should not love. Since when do Elves not feel love? Ever heard of Luthien? And finally, they don't make Beorn evil. They change the way the company gets to know Beorn.

So many cool things going on in this trailer, I had to watch multiple times. Had to point this out: In the first trailer, Thorin still has Orcrist when he is in the barrel and fighting orcs and elves down the river. Then, in this trailer, at a later point, Legolas has Orcrist and Thorin has a regular sword. Also, why isn't Bilbo using the ring when he is talking to Smaug, like he did in the book? And also, we totally got lied to about no Legolas-Tauriel romance. Maybe a love triangle with Kili?
LOVE Ben's voice!!! Honestly, how deep can a voice be?! Gave me goosebumps! Ha loved the Gandalf-Bilbo part "courage" ;) And aawww Balin saying "His name is Bilbo!" can I just hug him for that?! The sets look awesome huge fascinating (no surprise there). Thranduil is just brilliant and I'm keen to see more of the Mirkwood elves! Aaaahh really can't wait for December now! Hope they find a good Cumberbatch dub... They prob don't show the english version here in Austria :/
Based on what I know from the book and how awesome this trailer is I am guessing that DoS will be 100x better than an Unexpected Journey... and I LOVE the first Hobbit movie! Also, I believe PJ has said that this second movie is his favorite that he's ever done, which is saying a lot considering how epic all 3 LotR films were, not to mention the last Hobbit movie
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Thorin manages to escape from the elves with Orcrist, as he is using it to fight his way down the river. Then, Legolas must have gotten it back from him, but the dwarves still escaped. In the book, Thranduil took Orcrist and only gave it back.... at the end. Don't want to post spoilers.
I'm over here squeaking and squealing! I can't wait till it comes out! Legolas seems more mean in the Hobbit. He's in love with the She-Elf(forgot how to say the name), but I'm guessing that she dies? I'm sorry if I'm spoiling. It's just a random guess. Thranduil is still scary, Thorin became uncaring, and when Smaug was speaking, I was squealing my lungs out! ^_^

Benedict Cumberbatch is the best actor of all ( excep for Christipher Lee) and i cant wait to see how he wiill personalised Smaug ( and the necromancer) Thanks Pete for these trilogy no one can do tolkien like you and Phillippa Boyens ( She did such a great job with the scripts) xxx From Montreal
In a way Tauriel was necessary because of the lack of female characters in the novel (the only mention they made of a female is that of Bilbo's late mother and in a rather implicit way Thorin's sister) which is why they had Galadriel in the first movie (to placate feminist critics) and I don't see that farfetch the idea of Legolas being with the group that captured Thorin and Co.
I haven't seen neither movie you've mentioned but I've heard the adaptation was awful.

The books are completely irrelevant. They inform the major plot direction but the rest is manipulable at the hands the director and writers' artistic license, and rightly so. Gandalf vs Goblin King = Balrog face-off. Azog vs Thorin saved by Bilbo (swap out for Lurtz, Boromir & Aragorn, respectively). Regardless of why the chase sequence is included, why did it have to be so similar? The same goes for so much. Watch both movies again and you'll see it's pretty much xeroxed, except for the riddles
When you mention the Balrog on the bridge, which scene are you connecting it to? (In the trailer, Gandalf running for his life?) I do know that the cross-country chase that was in the first hobbit movie was added (probably because there wasn't much action in the first part if they didn't add it). Which scene are you talking about with the execution? I will admit, it has been a while since I have watched/read LOTR. Gandalf being saved by an Eagle did happen in both books (i think).
There were many direct shots that mirrored Fellowship so closely, it was almost certainly not by accident. The choices made by Jackson (and also Boyens and Walsh, the writers) drew too many close comparisons to Fellowship, and the film suffers hugely for it. And when they included the tedious god-awful washing up sequence, whilst designed to separate the two trilogies in tone, simply wasted time trivialising the story. If it had been more original in many parts it would be a far better film.
Of course I do. That's not what I'm talking about. So many specific moments are lifted directly from the first LOTR movie (Gandalf facing down the big boss on the bridge; cross-country chase sequence; badass hero saved from execution at the last second by a just-in-time hero diving into the big boss; Shire>Rivendell>underground>woodland face-off with artificial boss; Gandalf diving off a high object to be saved by an Eagle>comic scene with money/apple thrown from off screen to a character...
I have watched this trailer 12 times today! Lord of the Rings is my life and I can't wait for The Hobbit. I'm so glad Legolas is in this, though I'm glad Viggo turned down the offer. It will make sense for Legolas to be in this movie but Aragorn not so much. Oh and I am so excited that we finally got to hear Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug! From these first seconds, he seems to be perfect for the part! Anyway, I can't wait to return to Middle Earth this year, everything looks great so far!
Tolkien wanted to re-write the Hobbit after wirting LotR, thats known. Chances are high he would have introduced some characters from LotR like Legolas and Aragorn. Also why shouldn't Legolas be there, he is a Mirkwood Elve and his father is King. Makes totally sense. And I don't get why Legolas should not love. Since when do Elves not feel love? Ever heard of Luthien? And finally, they don't make Beorn evil. They change the way the company gets to know Beorn.
im sorry but im pissed whats with the elves, whats with legolas, since when was he a major part in the book, since when did he have a love interest, and why do i have a feeling beorn is going to be an enemy, beorn is my favorite character in the whole book the only middle earth character that tops him is tom bombadil and you already cut him out of the lord of the rings. honestly i cant decide whether or not to kill you for butchering the books, or kiss you for makin them movies anyway
So many cool things going on in this trailer, I had to watch multiple times. Had to point this out: In the first trailer, Thorin still has Orcrist when he is in the barrel and fighting orcs and elves down the river. Then, in this trailer, at a later point, Legolas has Orcrist and Thorin has a regular sword. Also, why isn't Bilbo using the ring when he is talking to Smaug, like he did in the book? And also, we totally got lied to about no Legolas-Tauriel romance. Maybe a love triangle with Kili?
LOVE Ben's voice!!! Honestly, how deep can a voice be?! Gave me goosebumps! Ha loved the Gandalf-Bilbo part "courage" ;) And aawww Balin saying "His name is Bilbo!" can I just hug him for that?! The sets look awesome huge fascinating (no surprise there). Thranduil is just brilliant and I'm keen to see more of the Mirkwood elves! Aaaahh really can't wait for December now! Hope they find a good Cumberbatch dub... They prob don't show the english version here in Austria :/

Based on what I know from the book and how awesome this trailer is I am guessing that DoS will be 100x better than an Unexpected Journey... and I LOVE the first Hobbit movie!
Also, I believe PJ has said that this second movie is his favorite that he's ever done, which is saying a lot considering how epic all 3 LotR films were, not to mention the last Hobbit movie
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Thorin manages to escape from the elves with Orcrist, as he is using it to fight his way down the river. Then, Legolas must have gotten it back from him, but the dwarves still escaped. In the book, Thranduil took Orcrist and only gave it back.... at the end. Don't want to post spoilers.

Legolas seems more mean in the Hobbit. He's in love with the She-Elf(forgot how to say the name), but I'm guessing that she dies? I'm sorry if I'm spoiling. It's just a random guess.
Thranduil is still scary, Thorin became uncaring, and when Smaug was speaking, I was squealing my lungs out! ^_^
