Here's a trick to keep in mind. Unless your van is equipped with a limited slip differential, to stop spinning one wheel, use your E-brake to slow down the spinning wheel. As that wheel slows, without reducing the power applied by the engine, the differential will increase the power to the other wheel. That's why it's called a differential... difference in speed allows the van to turn with the power is applied to the faster turning wheel, which is great, except when that wheel has lost traction. Slowly but firmly apply the rear parking brake or even the foot brake to slow or stop the spinning wheel and the power will go to the other wheel, allowing you to drive out of your predicament.
I have been to many other countries. Mexico included and right now I would not travel to Mexico. The check points are all you need to know. I'm happy you're all safe.
I'm Mexican, living in Mexico. For the love of god don't EVER live in a van in Mexico again. Don't stay overnight in places that are solitary, don't stay on the road. There are many narcos and thieves on the roads, especially at night . They disappear travellers every day (from truckers to illegal immigrants to tourists). I don't drive at night in state freeways, even if I have to travel across states I wait until morning and stay at hotels. That's how bad it is. You guys and your adorable kitty don't want to end up as another statistic just for a cute vlog. Just go back to America and keep trekking over there, just be careful of remote areas as well
It’d probably be a good idea to have 4wd if possible or at least some All-Terrain or even Mud-Terrain tires if your going through rough roads, super cool clip tho, keep on keeping on 🤘
well what the hell did you think? don't you think more people will be doing it if they thought it was a great idea to go to Mexico, a place you can't even drink the safely
One thing that helps go through the military checkpoints is to offer them something to drink . Like a soda or something. On my trip down Baja California going to San Felipe we easily went through after offering them drinks
That is naive of you and terrible advice for others. Mex border patrol don’t play. You offering them a can of Red Bull or a bottle of water would not have mattered even slightly if they thought you were transporting drugs, weapons, or humans. You’d still be rotting in a Mexican prison if that was the case.
You two are braver than brave!!! We use to stay in Ensenada n it was quite different. We never went to the beach at night! The crime rate was unbelievable!
Dude they’re white and tourists, they don’t touch these people because they bring in money , if it was a fellow Mexican on the other hand it would be different
Lol you only get kidnapped if your a idiot. Such as driving at night, or getting drunk in public. Take some brain to move around mexico. Some balls help too.
How to handle over officious authority officials in corrupt second world nation states:- _"Officer is it really necessary to rip apart my van for a search or is there some on the spot fine or fee I can pay to speed up the process?"_ Do as the locals do.
Tie rope around the back tires through the rim to act as temporary tire chains. About four on each tire. 1/2 inch rope works fairly well. Oh yeah, make sure you have clearance between the brakes and the rim. So the rope doesn't interfere.
Ugh. Yes, this happens in San Diego sometimes, as many homeless people park on the beach, without realizing the tide pattern. It's not unknown. Sorry for all the digging.
Damn lucky nothing happened to you in mexico! I lived there for many years and its honestly so dangerous if you dont know where you should and shouldn't go and especially if you're a foreigner
I think a little research would help y’all not have so many problems. Experience is the best teacher but you can get some education prior to the trip. Flat beach = wet beach. All sand will get you stuck. Just because another van is parked somewhere doesn’t mean you should too. I’d also upgrade to a 4x4 for these kinds of excursions. 2wd is meant for the road.
An easier way to get vehicle out the mud is by carrying rope and a 2x4 that’s about twice as long as yOur wheel is wide. Makes getting traction much easier and can help you and others in potential situations like this
That's typical for every single trip up & down the baja peninsula. More attention going north but never a sand issue either... but we be 4×4n thru country. Been doing it for years and absolutely 💯 love the people I've met the foods ive discovered along the travels. Can't wait to go again.

They might have been doing this for a while but they did something incredibly dangerous. You're being quite passive aggressive yourself
The sand before was relatively firm and smoothed, barely had any prints in it, but a wave pattern instead. Pretty easy to see that it gets flooded during high tide if you know what to look for. That wasn't a spring tide, that was just the regular tide.
i pray and hope that you stay safe and make your dreams come true without anymore danger
Rich people live so much different than average folks
I hope you guys are aware that anytime your on soft sand and get stuck. Always air down your tires, and sometimes that means airing down to 15-20psi for each tire. Depending on how heavy your vehicle is and it’s load.
I bet that girl in her SUV is so so grateful you and others were around to help!! At first I had thought “well why didn’t they drive a little further north before stopping for the night but it was divine intervention that you were there to help. Go glad you are all okay, that is terrifying for sure
So many low iq decisions lead to this day. So avoidable 😂😂 🤦🏻♂️
I guess it makes for good views 🥸
So happy you all are doing OK now!!!! Just wanted to let you all know that I really enjoy your content and I love both Bean and Sprout , they are just the cutest cats OMG! Thanks for sharing your vanlife with us all😊🤗😊🤗😊!!!

All these van life days really look like terribly stressful to me
Ima be honest a lotta this just sounds like its your fault😐
Nice to know I'm not the only one to use the ghetto locker trick. Traction boards can be very helpful too.
rule of thumb you're lucky you have your life and you're not dead look around you
Glad it was a helpful "wake-up" call. And not soldiers or robbers.
at least the soldiers weren't wearing tennis shoes lol
Glad you got some cat cuddles to reduce that stress and blood pressure. Jeez. What a horrible day.
Just go back to America and keep trekking over there, just be careful of remote areas as well
Fun fact, tides as a normal range can be a 5-6 metre change and much much more during a spring or king tide
Love seeing the struggles, did you know the oceans have tides?
Mexico is a beautiful country
It’d probably be a good idea to have 4wd if possible or at least some All-Terrain or even Mud-Terrain tires if your going through rough roads, super cool clip tho, keep on keeping on 🤘
Traveling thru Mexico without worries 😂 is like running naked thru a wolf den
Gotta be build with thick skin lol Some people weren't meant for it.
Cover in blood😂😂😂😂
Yup,this is why I'm traveling just the states
I cannot imagine living in a van without a mini bathroom.
well what the hell did you think? don't you think more people will be doing it if they thought it was a great idea to go to Mexico, a place you can't even drink the safely
Wow. You are right. That was a very scary day. I am glad that you all were ok including my everyone that you helped.
I love the notes to start shopping playing in the back ground. Safe travels !
You guys are very brave! I'm Mexican and I would never do that kind of a trip in Mexico. Good luck and stay safe.
Dude they’re white and tourists, they don’t touch these people because they bring in money , if it was a fellow Mexican on the other hand it would be different
Alternative word for brave, '"stupid"
Another piece of advice would be don't travel in Mexico Unless you stay on the resort. don't want to get kidnapped
Lol you only get kidnapped if your a idiot. Such as driving at night, or getting drunk in public. Take some brain to move around mexico. Some balls help too.
Crazy being in Mexico to begin with. You can disappear without a trace with drug cartels and corrupt police everywhere.
Glad you got home safely.
Mexico really isn't that dangerous don't believe everything in the news
The blessings of one's helping each other.
It's like, not knowing, by not studying where your are or going, should be surprised of the possibility of negative results.
If that was the scariest time so far you guys must be having a grand old time.
Well, they are being careful lmfao
I've traveled alot & that check point was very scary!. Nevermind the water....thankfully that call came in to let you guys know about the water🍃☮️💟
How to handle over officious authority officials in corrupt second world nation states:-
_"Officer is it really necessary to rip apart my van for a search or is there some on the spot fine or fee I can pay to speed up the process?"_
Do as the locals do.
Darwin award winners right there
Wow,that's scary glad you helped other people, glad you got out
I saw the checkpoint and immediately thought it was gonna be a cartel robbery they got involved in.
Lol you can always tell the rookies at the lake when you wake up in the morning and see the beached boats
✨Star Shopping✨
Damn lucky nothing happened to you in mexico! I lived there for many years and its honestly so dangerous if you dont know where you should and shouldn't go and especially if you're a foreigner
Wow what a crazy experience! Glad you made it out of the mud!
Yikes!! Chalk it up to another adventure and safe travels to everyone on the road!!❤
In my country is completely forbidden to park in the beach, to not damage it.
The bad moments make it worth the while, good story's to tell
Playing Russian roulette. It’s only a matter of time.
Lesson: There is never a good reason to go to Mexico.
If you are scared easily yea definitely don't go lol I go 3 times a year and have great vacations but that's because I know it is lol
Makes getting traction much easier and can help you and others in potential situations like this
Sounds like a highschool presentation 😂
You guys are doing what I have only dreamed of doing
That's typical for every single trip up & down the baja peninsula. More attention going north but never a sand issue either... but we be 4×4n thru country. Been doing it for years and absolutely 💯 love the people I've met the foods ive discovered along the travels. Can't wait to go again.
Lucky. Better situational awareness is important to stay safe. Should consider taking less risks in the future.
That Mr. Ballen story is rent free in my brain just hearing this
I know you had a hard time but that’s kind of you to go help people when your down!
