The studies mentioned to do with social isolation were incredibly flawed. The experiments were done on people like prisoners in solitary confinement - people who not only had no one to talk to but also, this is the crucial part, nothing to do. They were bored out of their minds - that is what is dangerous to the brain. No books, tv, movies, hobbies nothing. The problem with 'loneliness' is that it depends how someone is spending their time when they are alone. If they are just sitting around feeling sorry for themselves watching TV all the time then of course they will get depressed. But if someone has a full life with lots of hobbies and things that fully stimulate their brain, then unless they are extremely extroverted it will not damage their brain. Statements like this are dangerous because they will frighten people who are alone because of bad circumstances.
Boredom got nothing to do with it. Like the video said humans are social creatures and need to socialize with other people for good mental health. I thought the same that socializing is optional and that my time is better spend alone with my hobbies. But I got deppressed anyway and at the time I wasn't even aware that I'm deppressed until I started to socialize more and have a more social life. I started to feel way better plus you still need good social skills for a happy and a succesful life so it's a win-win. I still do all my hobbies tho.
Another note (that just expands on point 4 and will make your life way easier) on dehydration: just get accustomed to carrying water with you everywhere, regardless of the weather. You will quickly take note of how many times you never even realized before that bringing water was a smart idea. You'll never be thirsty or have sticky hands, can quickly do a little bit of fixing-up on some stains you may get on your clothes while outside, don't need to buy any drinks throughout the day and there's tons more small scenarios like that. The main point is you'll always be better off with water on you than without.

"Social isolation" has been cited as one of the factors that damage our brains, but I don't think it's necessarily appropriate. This is because for some people, dealing with other people can be very exhausting and stressful. They would feel more comfortable living in a remote mountain hut or deserted island.

There are five areas of the world with the highest populations of people over the age of a hundred who are still living healthy and active lives. These are known as The Blue Zones, and they have very low rates of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, etc. Tea and/or coffee consumption is common to all of them. In Okinawa, the centenarians will sip on green tea all day. In Ikaria Greece, they drink tea made of local herbs. In the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica, they drink coffee. A lot of people focus on exercise for weight loss but exercise is critical for quality of life and vitality, especially the older that you get. It helps with thinking, brain function, and functional strength, preventing you from slowly wasting away if you don't exercise. You don't have to run a marathon or be a triathlete. You just have to move a little every day or do some minor exercises that you can even do in your house (although simply walking seems to be the best for brain functioning, which shouldn't be surprise if you're like me and you do some of your best thinking when going for a walk).

These are really common but always never put to heart by many. Two habits that I disagree with in this video are "Not enough sunlight" (Dermatologists never advise exposing our skin to sunlight since UVA and UVB cause skin cancer but to take Vitamin D supplement instead and also it's not that Vitamin D is the most important vitamin compared to others) and "Drink coffee moderately" (as it can sometimes lead to sleep deprivation which is your #1 bad habit due to caffeine having a long half-life, addiction due to caffeine being a stimulant drug, or caffeine insensitivity)
bruh cringe, exposing to sun for a LONG period can lead to cancer. It's gonna be much healthier if you would spend 30 minutes exposing yourself to sun. Coffee doesn't lead to sleep deprivation, it's your bad habit that is. You just shouldn't drink before sleeping.
@@desiqti i think it's okay to expose ourselves to sunlight for a while but should not be during sun's peak hours, more or less 10 am to 2 pm. But if the only purpose was to create vit D, then might as well supplement it instead and avoid as much sun exposure to lessen the risk of skin cancer, search for Science Insider doctors debunk suncare myths. As for caffeine, search for Sleep scientist Matt Walker in teded, i think coffee can be enjoyed best in the morning but not to be consumed regularly.
@@jenstenboom let's say you drink coffee everyday in the morning, you'll gradually notice that without coffee, you have less energy for the whole day, caffeine insensitivity/tolerance, you'll gradually need more and more caffeine in order to have the same energy like the first time you drank coffee. It's like we're playing hormones, blocking receptors for the normally produced hormones from the body. And so i think it's best enjoyed occasionally rather than moderately.

During my thesis, I attended a seminar where a researcher discussed the effect of caffeine on the brain. The data did imply there could be a decline in the onset of Parkinson's when coffee was consumed regularly. However, the caffeine level mentioned was very high, so we're talking about at least more than 5 cups of coffee daily. Keep in mind that this also could cause different problems.
I can’t get over the loud music one thoug. I pretty much be listening to loud music all day when doing hw or working out. I have noticed that I’m not always able to hear people when they talk but I can’t tell if they are just mumbling or if my hearing it bad because of it
Coffee or caffeine in particular? I ask because there are many sources of caffeine so if people don't like the taste or are unable to get good (inexpensive) cups of Joe's there are other options. Tea, energy drinks, etc.
Probably just caffeine. I grew up drinking tea. The antioxidants in tea are great. I just got into green tea. I only drink coffee when I'm stressed! It makes me feel better but if I drink it too often I feel worse
*remember to moderate coffee consumption* while it can be beneficial drinking too much of it can lead to a lot of problems, I don't know exactly what these are caffeine is a poison which we found ways to use as a drug, much like many other substances that we consume. It still affects us negatively when we overuse it, and it can become an addiction please correct me if I'm mistaken on something, I'm not an expert on this subject
Researcher here, about number 5. "Not enough sunlight", this point should be more about that your eyes need to have a lot of light few hours after wake up, especially if you are young because you will have to wear glasses in the future because eyes need light to grow correctly, also the light in the morning regulate your hormones especially if you are a woman, to fix those problems you need to be outside 30m in sunny day and 1h in cloudy day (I feel you, if you have winters), to be precise your eyes need to be outside ( you don't need to be naked ;)

the smoking bit isnt true though, unironically smoking was shown to be protective on the brain especially dementia and parkinsons. There are studies done on this that smokers risk higher risk of lung cancer, heart problems, and other cancers but surprisingly they suffer less from brain diseases correlated with old age. That moment when I realize I do everything on this list except for drinking coffee.
I was only suffering from stress from the mentioned problems but I think that I have overcome stress so I'm chilling.
I smoked a cigarrete sitting after 2 hours of sleep, not having drunk a single drop of water in days in my dark room, stressed, while eating unhealthily in solitary confinement
You forgot the loud music lmao
yeah "coffee and cigarettes" is my favorite diet too
Wonderful. I am doing 7 out of 10 of these. 😅 And honestly, I am feeling it. I am only 26 years old but my memory is flat. I need to make notes to remember what I want to do.
I also do 7 out of 10 of them. Can I join the club? XD
Aw, you poor guys. Are you not drinking coffee? That gives you one less point out of 10. So that puts me at 5 out of 10. Still an F, but I'm halfway there!
Ayy lets go I'm in 7 out of 10 too! 😎
I like how society literally encourages all of these. Baaa baaa. Yes, even dehydration. I wasn't allowed to drink water in my factory line job.
You are at work to do your job. You can drink your water before job, in your breaks and after your job.
The opinion of someone that's completely soulless
@@lukecronquist6003 i agree, let's assume your work is 8hours,and your break time is at the midway of 8hours which is fourth hours,so you are not allowed to drink water in these 4 hours? gosh please i can't handle about it
Thank you for this informative video, I feel like I need it very much!
Thanks very much for a such helpful video and Russian subtitles!
Thank you.
#3 Smoking, i don't smoke myself but sadly my coworkers smoke in the office and i'm forced to be a passive smoker, if i tell them not to smoke i would look like an asshole and an outcast, the only thing i can do is to hold my breath and take as few breaths as possible
Have you ever discussed it with them?
Passive smoking is even more dangerous.
If you have no other choice then become active smoker because it is less dangerous 😂😅
@@semma88
Can i really discuss it? 80% of them smoke, they are the majority
Quit. Now.
@@m_m2928 Of course, explain to them what it does to you in a friendly manner. Try to have an open conversation about it. I dont know your work circumstance but most people don't mind having a conversation like that.
Finally a score I get 100% in!
Keep up the good work ! Many people ,who are blinded by gadget addiction , are unaware and need help.
Thank you so much. Actually lots of things i already heard. But its also reminded me somethings. Usefull info. Thanks again
Great video 🔥
Involuntary social isolation is not the same as Voluntary social isolation like some topper students do.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for this
These are really common but always never put to heart by many.
About the caffeine thing, it literally says 'drink coffee moderately', while all the disadvantages you named are due to excessive use of caffeine
I'm impressed. I have all those habits except for smoking...
I’m doing really well on all of these except stress which is also the hardest to fix lmao.
This is the best coffee ad if i have ever seen one
I find it helpful to keep my phone and laptop screens on night shift mode pretty much all the time. It reduces the blue light emitted which can interfere with REM sleep.
It is a vergy good summary, I agree those points. And it is a huge luck that alcohol drinking was not included! :-)))))))
I am really wondering how he could have missed it
Love this,Thanks Mate!
I like how you say Vitamin
Good video.
love this video have CC, im learning english so kinda hard video with doesn't CC ❤❤
If I play my music loud now it just means i get to play it louder later on. All I see is a win here.
Lol
😂
the number 2. one I don't need to worry about because I walk to school and going back home to eat lunch and walking back again for afternoon classes and walking back again for a whole week
Lets improve
thanks!
watching this while drinking coffee and it made me happy! :D
yeah
Watching this while drinking a beer and not seeing it mentioned made me happy.
Drinking coffee daily heavily effects your sleep negatively so keep it to 1 every 2-3 days
Depends on the dose and time of day when you drink coffee, but in general it's nice to stay caffeine free and drink coffee when you feel like you really need it
@@LenTos1337 yea it's got a 6 hour half life so probably don't drink it past 3pm
I'm curious how whole grains will lead to a healthier brain. if our brains are compromised of mostly protein and fats wouldn't more protein packed food and healthy fats be more healthier?
from what i have read, yes.
No. The brain runs on glucose. Every cell in your body runs on glucose. Whole grains and fruits are the best sources or glucose.
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet runs on as fuel maybe, but to maintain and or increase the structure of I don't remember any science lecture informing me the entire brains composition is solely variants of glucose. Can you refute with any evidence to look up?
I am reading the book, “Grain Brain” by Dr. Perlmutter. It’s very interesting but also a bit scary considering we’re always told to eat whole grains. I tend to take everything with a grain of salt and try it out and see what makes me feel best and most alert but so far, the gluten free/low gluten wave is helping. 🤷🏼♀️
@@blueshoes915, what is the main point of of the book? that grains are not good for your brain? if you don’t mind, could you please elaborate a little?
i have all of this because of school 😭😭 why is no one talking abt how school could potentially damage our brain
this is so true. school induces stress, makes you sit around do nothing for hours, makes you lose sleep, be inside long hours. Starts early as hell so good luck with a healthy rhythm and after enough years most high school/uni students start smoking or do other drugs to cope with that bullshit system.
man I was really doing the dementia speedrun without knowing. Thanks m8
You are really good 👍
Alright I'm guilty to Not exercising and lack physical movement throughout the day... not enough sunlight... unhealthy diet... social isolation. Aight this is cornerning... I'll take care of the excercise, sun, and diet... I've neglect that for far too long... Thank you for this video coming up to my feed.
Finally, something I scored 10/10
congratulation on me for unckecked all the healthy boxs, its come to the point that changing the bad habits is more hassle than commiting the act of unliving myself now
During my thesis, I attended a seminar where a researcher discussed the effect of caffeine on the brain. The data did imply there could be a decline in the onset of Parkinson's when coffee was consumed regularly. However, the caffeine level mentioned was very high, so we're talking about at least more than 5 cups of coffee daily. Keep in mind that this also could cause different problems.
and is the rest of the benefits of caffeine listed here accurate?
@@flako6096 caffeine can literally cause withdrawals, idk why people make it sound so good
Who can possibly drink less than 5 cups of coffee on a full day?
i've heard that taking coffee decreases the efficiency of your body to absorb nutrients/vitamins. Is this true?
wow, I do literally all of these things!
Love from india
I can’t get over the loud music one thoug. I pretty much be listening to loud music all day when doing hw or working out. I have noticed that I’m not always able to hear people when they talk but I can’t tell if they are just mumbling or if my hearing it bad because of it
Bro same i workout 6x a week and have my music to the max. And have experienced same thing as u
From these: Sedentary Lifestyle, stress and sometimes sleep deprivation
Coffee or caffeine in particular? I ask because there are many sources of caffeine so if people don't like the taste or are unable to get good (inexpensive) cups of Joe's there are other options. Tea, energy drinks, etc.
Probably just caffeine. I grew up drinking tea. The antioxidants in tea are great. I just got into green tea. I only drink coffee when I'm stressed! It makes me feel better but if I drink it too often I feel worse

10/10 im proud
God bless us all brahs
GREAT CONTENT
*remember to moderate coffee consumption*
while it can be beneficial drinking too much of it can lead to a lot of problems, I don't know exactly what these are
caffeine is a poison which we found ways to use as a drug, much like many other substances that we consume. It still affects us negatively when we overuse it, and it can become an addiction
please correct me if I'm mistaken on something, I'm not an expert on this subject
Good golly, so happy that coffee is up there as the one good habit.
i loved the surprise thing that I am doing right!
iight bet!
Some source material would be nice
finally a video that isn't trying to sell me something
Personally, I believe too much scrolling from one thing to the next and too much internet time aren't good for our brains.
Indeed...
I respect your opinion, but how?
@@pizzaburgz social media and pretty much everything on the internet is a superstimulus. combine that with your brain constantly changing focus from one tiktok to another and you got yourself a perfect recipe for an issue more common than ever, especially in the young generation: low attention spans and an inability to focus on anything.
I will forever self isolate

9) social isolation✅
10) not exercising your brain ❎
So, i only have 5 bad habits, i guess things would be worst if i dont even exercice my brain, since i read books of economics for online debates and i am currently in the university.
damn im literally doing all 10 things that are bad for your brain
Bro, when i clicked this video and checked the video it feels like a have seen this moment before but not this moment where I'm typing rn.
Other people are the first and most only stress i have.... social isolation is a term of subjectivity.
Your mom and dad is enough for fixing social isolation
Any chance to link research sources confirming that prolonged coffee intake has positive effects on our brain?
Have any of your parents ever told you to go and do your own research? The video gives you the biggest hints on what to look for.
There are a few habits you mentioned that I really ought to quit, glad coffee isn't one of them!
You mispelled the part where you talk about dehydration (you typed denydration)
From humble opinion, I believe two most damaging aspects are social media & p*rn addiction nowadays
everything is right. all checkboxes
Now we can see how bad covid lockdown was for our health
FINALLY!! Someone gets it!!!!
the smoking bit isnt true though, unironically smoking was shown to be protective on the brain especially dementia and parkinsons. There are studies done on this that smokers risk higher risk of lung cancer, heart problems, and other cancers but surprisingly they suffer less from brain diseases correlated with old age. This is from the nicotine in tobacco
I'm glad alcohol wasn't mentioned.
Cheers!
