- There are so many different types of dart flight but what do they all do and what suits the way you want to throw. I take a throw with a wide range and give you some feedback as I go into how these can change your dart

I've been playing on and off for 10 years, only ever used standard flights. My darts drop low quite a lot, after watching this vid, I've now switched to Kite flights and notice a big difference, higher scoring and better on my doubles. Cheers! Keep it up

"When you know, you know" was the truest thing I've heard for a while!
I throw fin for soft tip, fantail for 22g+ and Velos (Harrows; the weird shaped big ones that you forgot the name of) for lighter darts. There's no real logic, but it works for me. Noticed that the Velos flights drastically change the angle of entry so I pretty much understack, but I like that as I find there's more room in the bed.
As for soft tip, the flights are big but it gives me something to aim at when going for bullseye. Also, I try and keep a novelty theme for soft tip, and they're on point (no pun intended).

Thank you Edgar! Finally someone who makes a little video about flights! How I have looked for something like this. I would have preferred a 90min in-depth, scientific view, but that'll never happen. So this was helpful. I hope you can revisit flights in the future. (How much does the thickness of a flight change the darts flight? Thicker=slower, even I know that, but a professionals view on material would be interesting.)
This was a fantastic and informative video. I've been wanting to get more serious with my darts, and just switched to the Retina kites myself. Love the difference they make, and I hope they do the same for you. Cheers from Stateside

Great video Matt. I’ve been a standard thrower for 25 years...changed to kite just before lockdown...the improvement in my game and the amount of 180s has been unbelievable! 🎯🏴
What length of stem you using buddy
@@brackaboy1 depends on the flight.. standard ones go well with aluminum medium stem and kite go well with in-between carbon or aluminum stem at least in my opinion
I just started using kites and they go well with in between stem aluminum or carbon I just notice hitting where I want on first go

The second set of flights you used I use, they work well on a 22g with a small stem there from target. 👍

Awesome video! I definitely am going to try out the kites and possibly the teardrops. I tend to take the traditional big balloon standard size flights I suppose you call them and cut them down to what he I’d like so that’s not always the best Way, I’m sure. Thanks again

Good video , flights can makes a difference . Recently i was switched from Condor Axe medium standard to short stems supplied with darts and add a kite shape of flights . Difference is very big , have a feel that is not a same dart like with previous set up .
Excellent video Matthew. Didn't seem to affect entry angle very much. Could you do a video mixing up stem length with flight size to make them stand up and/or lie down?

Great review on the flight variations. I would have rather seen a shaft/flight comparison video, as I constantly play around with shaft length and flight variations to tune in a new set of barrels, or get them just right to compete in tournaments. I use the big wing XL which are just an extra big flight on straight darts. I used to use pear shaped on the Vikings darts. Funny how it changed really!
i have try all of them (i mean kitty,slim,pear and standard) and i choose to throw with kitty flights.....my dart stick in board like Lewis darts,with tail up,so with this flights my darts penetrate with perfect angle....greath vid, mate
I allways used standard flights.
Then i did the same thing, bought a couple of different ones.
Threw 100 darts with the old standard ones and when i switched to kites it upped my average by 11 points after 100 darts thrown.
Trying out different stems and flights and even points is just smart thing to do.
Was literally looking for video just like this the other day thanks for doing that thinking of changing the flight I use and like the look of those kites

I recently swapped from slims to kites. I was dropping a little low with slims and the kites have sorted me right out. They feel more stable too
I was cutting flights Al shapes and sizes but the way they landed sometimes 3 darts on the floor..using Taylors last flights he was using but not the stems.. Different entry but less on the floor

5:59 those flights are called velos flight made by harrows
In the 70s I remember the Elkadart Clearway flights, which were a standard shape but had the central mass of the flight cut out. Very fast as I recall.

I used to use the thicker hardcore flights, now I use thinner target find they land flatter for me, as like to stack upwards
Cool video pal. I can only use pears and kites.i also like my darts to lie flat so I can stack.
The kites are okay going for trebles, then going for double NO.... I prefer slims / Taylor edge for the best balance!
I've been throwing with standard flights since the 90's. I notice that they tend to have an arc but I just accepted that as a normal element of a ballistic object. I wonder if my accuracy will go up if I go with a smaller profile flight. I'm running a 24gram steel-tip dart (everything included).
Can't wait for the Edgar TV Darts. Will definitely get them in 21g.

I changed from Standard to the S4 Fit Flights a few weeks back and haven't looked back. Tried the slims but not for me
Have you tried some Phil Taylor flights? They are different.
I used to have a set of V wing flights and always played much better with them. Don't know whether it was the flights or just some kind of placebo effect...
Switched to kites just to see what they were like and definitely improved on my doubles

Good to watch that! Firstly, wtf do I know, but I really think the whole "speed through the air" thing is psychological, has anyone done a proper scientific test to prove it one way or another? I can't find one on google. Looking forward to seeing those darts of yours on sale!

I use 25 gram Harrows bombers with a 29mm stem and pear flights. I want hardly any dart to throw and a fast landing dart. Plus I find the pear flights are a delight to help increase aim
Same here. I was throwing 8 sets of darts, always on standards. Bought a Scott Williams bombers and pears for test. There is no way back for me. I got light throw and pears are fantastic for that.

what happens when you love a flight ,or for that matter , a stem and they stop making them ? An example is the unicorn jet lite stem .
Kites are fantastic flights. Not as heavy as standards, so they don't drop as much, and aren't as small as slims, so I can throw them without my darts looking like tungsten acrobats rolling through the air.
Should have a go of the vortex flights by Red Dragon.

How much damage can a flight take before it affects the actual flight into the board?

They're a bit like vortex.theyre good to use.
Best novelty flights were from a company called ‘spirioline’ they were great ‘inflight’
It changes a lot. I had to change one the other day and didn't have 3, it was insanely different, the dart barely stuck to the board.
Also, I break like 30 shafts every day. Insane bounceouts. Any recommendation? Probably gonna have to change the material.
Carbon is the way to go for me a bit more expensive but they rarely break
I've been playing with standard flights for a while now and i was struggling with accuracy, tried out dimplex standard flights and found alot more tighter groupings and accuracy,
I use the dimplex stems well worth a go. I’ve put a link in the description in the my normal equipment section
I throw an 18g dart and I use a kite shaped flight the go in nice and straight

I just got some decent darts after using cheap shit for ages.. I went for some 28g front weighted cuesouls, some fly in straight as you like but the majority of my throws they rotate mid air and land on wierd angles mainly side on. Any idea what I am doing wrong 🤔
So, the flight blocks your view as well? I’m confused as to how that is. View from throw or view from board?

I need some advice on what flights i should use with my darts. I'm currently using standards and while I can lay with them I feel there are flights that would better suit me and my throw and play style. i will list some information below regarding the kind of darts I've settled on using.
The darts i am using currently are 18 gram and steel tipped. Like in the video i do like a faster dart and the standards are quite slow.
Any advice on the types of flights that would suit me would be very much appreciated.

What the difference with nylon stems or polycarbonate?
Do the mini standard flights have a very similar area to the slims, hence why you like them?

Why would you mount a travel board on a wall?
The whole point of the thing is to bring it along on travels.
When the edgar TV darts will they be released with flights and stems or barrel only
I think they will be with flights and stems in the first run but not the ones I use as the stems are patented

I think the prime time player should use kite flights
what about the flatness of the four sides to a flight. i notice when I get them they are flattened a bit, is that normal or should I press all four wings to be equidistant from each other? in other words, get the flatness out and make all sides equal to one-another? It's so confusing.
I don't know if you are being sarcastic but yes open them out so they make a X when looking from behind

Depending on which of my darts I'm using I'll have the flight in either of the orientations. Some fly better without spinning and I find that happens when the wings are in a plus pattern when I throw. It's always worth trying variations on your throw and grip too

I’ve found kites to be the best for the same reasons.
Harrows make all the retina flights.
