Here is a tip to prevent getting an eye cramp from glassing with a spotting scope. Get an eyepatch with an elastic band from a pharmacy or drug store. Wear it on your non-glassing eye. It allows that eye to relax. When finished glassing wrap it up in the spotting scope cover. I have done this for decades. Try it out.

❤ Been hunting, packing, and eating southern Arizona deer since 1961. Worked hard for some , others almost fell in my lap. Did not draw a tag this year.

Great to hear you talk about the impact of the drought. I live in Tucson and have hunted those units down along the border for 30 years now. Its been more like a 20 year drought, the quail have completed moved out of some areas that used to be the best hunting around. I also believe there is a problem with over grazing but I am not trying to beat up the ranchers. Its also become dangerous just to be in the units along the border always pack a side arm.

I drew a tag for coues or mule deer in Unit 26 in NM. I live in the ruidoso area and it was not a great rain year for us in 23' but not a straight drought. Anyone know how Hildalgo county did in 22 or 23?

Randy bringing up the only doe season is youth in the Kaibab brings back memories for me. That is the season I took my first deer in almost 25 years ago. I haven't lived in AZ for over 20 years now. While I have enjoyed tremendous success hunting deer where I'm at now, I do miss the western style of hunting that I grew up with.

15 year old Daughter and I finally drew a tag after putting in for a few years. We had a hard time finding any Couse the first 2 days. I killed a legal spike buck on day 3. Then we saw deer almost everywhere we explored on foot. Got on a great buck on day 7 and just could not get my daughter inside her effective range of 200 yards. We were the only out of state hunters we met. Camped next to a great family. Can hardly wait to get drawn again. Mostt favorite hunt i have ever been on.

Bad management and predator pressure has as large if not larger impact on populations and fawn recruitment than drought does. 20 years ago you would rarely see a lion. Every year since they banned trapping we see more lions and fewer deer. Last year's hunt alone I glassed up 4 different mature lions in only 4 days of hunting. Didn't even see 4 bucks during the same hunt.

The reason why tenderloins, or any cut really, is rubbery if cooked the day of the kill is the meat hasn’t completed to process of going into and out of rigor.

I'm a bigtime fan of Randy but the secret of more opportunities monologue was very wrong
Sorry but we had good rain for two years plus
The predation on fawns pronghorn specifically was not even mentioned and it is 80 percent or more
80s also has no social media making hunting population exploding not to mention how many more people live here now
Hunted in 23 late Coues last year and was lucky to draw tag also so Xmas was special
    Did you see a lion?
