Chest mounted right there
Try leaving the feeler gauge in, run screw on to gauge, then tighten jam nut. That will result in a sweat drag consistently.

Yes the customer was going to clean it.
is that pinging noise normal? i just did my valves and im hearing the same thing. i didnt before so i wasnt sure
Your measurements is that with the engine hot or cold?
I have a question. I have a 2001 Tiffin Allegro Bus with an 8.3 Cummins with about 40,000 miles on it. I’m having starting problems with it any time it sits for more than about 30 minutes. It acts like it’s loosing prime and will only start if I cycle the key about 10 times or use either and doesn’t matter if it’s warm or cold. Is there a check valve I should be looking at or maybe something else. Thanks.
