Can’t compare MLS to SPL because football in America has grown slowly with consistent small investment building strong fanbases, stadiums experiences, relationships with the cities they are in. Growing it slowly into what it is today. SPL is trying to skip all that process. And it won’t be sustainable in the long run.

Wrong King - to be the top league Saudi would need to have teams in the Champions League. To do that they’d need to fall under the UEFA financial fair play rules as all other Champions League clubs have to - which they can’t do because they pay so much in transfer fees and wages and are light years away from getting the commercial revenue they need to fall under the allowed losses.

    • @bryanross421
      @bryanross421 10 месяцев назад

@KINGKING10109 Good point, but the financial advantage even with this tax factor is now reduced once you have to comply with the rules. Previously they could pay obscene wages almost 200% to 500% more but now it is truncated to 40% to 50% tax depending on the country you are residing in and that will be a huge drop from what they are being paid currently hence it lowers the incentive for top players to move. Plus what Simon said about a USP apart from finance is yet to be identified. Not saying it is an impossible task but there is no evidence for the Saudi league to be the best in 6 years...Let's wait and watch

A 1/2 year UCL ban is STILL better than not competing in the UCL at all…🤣
Plus by then they would’ve bought all the players they wanted already, and possibly even pay some of their wages upfront so it fits under a previous financial year.

There might be money in Saudi but there's no football culture. Their top club Al-Hilal, one of the biggest clubs in Asia averaged 9,300 last season, that's less than what non league Wrexham averaged. This season in the Saudi top flight there are only 4 clubs averaging over 10K and one club can't even break a 1000 average. The current average in the SA top flight is 9K, that's less than league 1 level. In England there are several teams in the lower divisions with zero star players who can pull in 25K gates. So the Saudi league will never be a tv attraction with matches being played in small athletics stadiums with hardly any fans.

Sports should build up organically based on popularity which turns into income. Another nation (Saudi) see this and also want to develop Olympic Gold medalist, so they are all given the latest technology in anabolic steroids and people predict it won't be long before this new SA athletics camp produce champions. Ruben Nevez actually proves the rule regarding players on their way down going there. There are countless videos about Saudi and whenever anyone talks about the type of players going there, the only response Jim has is Ruben Neves. That’s it.
Now, on Neves, who else was in for him? Who did his Saudi club beat for his signature? Nobody.
Mane is 31 and on the way down. Munich used the Saudi league to get rid of a player they didn’t want so they had enough money for Kane.
Damarai Gray of Everton? Who wanted him? Not even Everton at the end.
As Jordan says, until they get young players like Bellingham before they go to Madrid, or get HIM from Madrid while he’s still only 22, there’s barely a story here.

Saudi can attract big names with no ambition but players aren't going to become big names there because a lack of competition so all the talent will come to and be made in Europe the saudis would need to start bringing in a lot of talent and make the league way more competitive to ensure that people could become or maintain their status and with local talent that's going to take decades. Can they keep this up for decades, probably but like the chinese I think they'll get bored.
Football is tradition in europe, communities are built around teams in the uk. You can probably watch a football match any day of the week within a thirty minute trip, sure it might be non league but there'll still be a few hundred watching. Firminho & Benzema ( present world player of the year )
went there and yet their team STILL can lose..........Firminho even lose 5-1 to middle team !

@@MeemKhaMeemDhal--khaYaRaWawNun I take that point but they are in their 30s. I take the league more seriously when players in their 20s start going. Also the issue is that there is massive wage disparity. In the EPL almost every player is on 7 figures a year (even in middling teams like West Ham) and overall quality is very high. The Saudi league feels more like the MLS were you have individual (aging) superstars alongside players who on quite modest wages and who would struggle in league 1. The world player of the year before Benzema plays in the MLS (Messi), so what does it mean that the current one plays in Saudi. None of Saudi teams could survive in the championship let alone EPL

It doesnt bother me personally. We will just see our domestic leagues return to normal. More homegrown players, with foreign players chosing to go to Saudi instead. Our league will become more English again. I remember, as a kid, being absolutely fascinated with the old division one (now the premiership). Full of Brittish players kicking the crap out of eachother. Perhaps i could intentify better with the Brittish lads, than some 19 year old kid from the Ivory Coast, who's name i can't even pronounce, and who barely speaks English.
If the Saudi league turned into a super league, that would be fun to watch, would it not?

The Saudi pro league will never ever be as big as the big leagues in Europe !! People used to go to America for a big pay day but their league never ever made the MLS a big league .

  • @MarkQuinn2k7

American here. The only league this will harm is the MLS. That's because the MLS has long wanted to become a retirement home for aging international stars. But they don't have the money to compete with the Saudi's and as such the MLS will never grow in quality or stature. That's fine by me. Why would anyone want to watch ten or twenty year old teams when the world is filled with clubs that have so much history dating to the 19th century in many cases? Let the MLS remain on par with EFL League One or thereabouts, and let the Saudi League continue to offer these gargantuan retirement packages for the best veterans of world football. In the end, nobody will watch either of these leagues and meanwhile Europe's top five will remain the most relevant and entertaining football in the world.

Brazil Serie A is a great league. Mexican Liga MX is a great league. But those players have a dream of going to play in Europe because that is the pinnacle of global football.
Saudi Arabia wants to buy Europe's stars to rent some prestige for its league. In order to be a star you have to have played in the pinnacle of global football. In the Premiere League or La Liga or Bundesliga or Serie A otherwise a player isn't attractive to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia cannot manufacture prestige. It isn't a league that creates stars.

1st if saudi agrees on the financial fair play and they will pay players same money as in europe, players will still go to saudi because it's tax free money so the players will get more. 2nd This is not sport washing as it was introduced back in 2016 when saudi vision 2030 was formulated. Haters gonna hate no matter what.

This won't be sustainable because living in Saudi Arabia is no picnic and the Saudis are eventually going to get tired of paying above market prices for players.

Israel were booted out of AFC in 1974. Turkey, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia are transcontinental countries and they swing to a more European identity. The Kazakhs actually lost out on a place in the 2002 world cup on goal diiference through the Asian qualifiers before moving to UEFA. Still makes no sense as they havent come close since.
