Locking/Unlocking a Subaru With Proximity Keys

- I show you how to lock/unlock the doors of your Subaru with proximity keys. This is actually something I see customers have a difficult time with especially if they have never had proximity keys before.

Nice video. Thanks. How do I set the settings so that I have to use my fob to lock and unlock the assent.? I want it so that the door cannot be unlocked by just pulling on the handle.
There is a way to disable that, I've seen it done once. Its very complicated to do, as far as I remember. What is the model year/trim level of your Ascent & I'll see if I can find how to do it.

@@katsshibainus3258 In your owners manual (the biggest book) go to page 129. You will find the instructions there to disable keyless access.
BTW, if you disable the keyless access it will also disable the push button start. What you will have to do is use the key fob to physically push the button to start the vehicle.
Something else you could do is go on Amazon & look for a RFID blocking bag, you can find some small ones to put a key fob in. This would block the key signal & would not allow you to be able to grab the door handle & it unlocks.

My 2023 outback will open all doors if someone is on the passenger side with their hand on the handle while I am on the driver side with the key fob. Yes, I have it set to driver only. I actually had the dealer check that today when I got my oil changed. Have you heard of this happening? I've read some blogs about it but nobody has a fix.
No, I have not heard of this before. What exactly is going on when this happens. Are you just standing next to the car & they are grabbing the handle on the passenger side & its just opening? Do you have you hand on the handle at all? Does the other person have a key fob on their person? If they do then yes, the door would unlock for them. Give me a little more information & I'll try to see if I can find anything out about it.

My key used to do this but the battery died and no longer does this. How do I reset my key to open automatically.
Change the battery in the key. You can go to your local Subaru dealer & visit parts if you need help with changing the battery.
@@JasonJarrettUSMC I’ve changed the battery and now it no longer opens it by standing near the door.
@howdigetherepodcast The answer is probably to have your local Subaru service department take a look at it, but I will research to see if there is anything else you can do before getting service involved.
Knowing the year & model of your Subaru would also be helpful.

@@howdigetherepodcast Take your vehicle to your local Subaru dealer. I didn't find anything with my research, so I asked my service department about your situation. They said more than likely you have an error code preventing it from working.
