    Thank you SO MUCH for this. I just bought a Subaru last week for my dogs. In my previous Toyota I always carried 2 keys. In the summer I leave the car running with the AC blasting for them.

      God that's horrible at least the terrain lets us lock the car when it's running holy crap that is so stupid. Should be able to do it with the remote there's no reason. By the way the key you pulled out it's not called a proximity key just so you know.
      In the proximity key is the Walk up Walk away lock on lock feature that's proximity key got nothing to do with the hard key

    • @DanLoFat
      @DanLoFat 2 года назад

      Now the terrain has a 1 hour maximum shut off for inside of it and a 10 or 20 minute automatic shut off if you're not inside of it, the only way to override that is parking brake on front door open put into neutral let run then shut front door other doors can be open and shut locked doors can be unlocked and locked and the car will still stay in neutral as soon as you open the front door the car goes from neutral to park all of this the whole time the parking brake stays on it never releases. Until you manually release it that way but that's the terrain what's up with the Subaru man the Subaru just makes this damn noise when you have the parking brake on and try to put it in the neutral that's annoying as hell

    Thankyou. I wish Subaru would allow this bullshit to be disabled like the seat belt chime trick. For so long, if i had the dogs.. i would have to get out with the engine off, lock it. Then bring up the app and do remote start and have to run through the store to get out before the other bullshit 10 minute idle limit was up.

    I hadn't mentioned earlier that GMC terrain line allows for this using the remote and not the proximity key to lock and unlock an idling vehicle. But I remembered that what I was using that on had remote start capability. The Forester that I'm using now does not have remote start capability well at least it's not set up for remote start, it might be capable of it.
    Is that what we're facing here, vehicles that have push start but not remote start?

    Unfortunately that trick no longer works the electronics in the system will not let the mechanical key lock the car when it's running if there isn't at least a second key fob in the car you have to have a second key fob somewhere in the vehicle in order for that to work well and then if you have a second key fob then you can use the outer key fob to lock it from outside the car but the mechanical key will not lock the door anymore in the 2021 Subaru any model

    • @markjacobsen8335
      @markjacobsen8335 Год назад +1

      @@TysonTheSubaruSpecialist Correct. It wouldn't turn the lock tumbler. I was finally able to push the lock shut without it unlocking itself. The problem then, though, is that the tailgate won't lock. So, a stranger could still get in the car from the back. Really bad safety design, in my opinion. As the car owner, the car should do what I tell it to.
      So, I ended up having to disable autolock altogether and then everything would be locked when I got out and manually locked my driver door before shutting it. Problem then, though, is that the FOB won't unlock it at all, so I have to get the key out of the FOB to unlock it, which key works then turning the tumbler, by the way (fortunately). It's pretty confusing, and could be dangerous, in my opinion. My need is really just to leave the power on inside for passengers to power their devices or listen to something while I run inside a store or post office, etc. It shouldn't be that complicated.

My sister pulled up in a Chevy with same feature except when she leaves the engine running and leaves the vehicle the gear selector stays locked in park. I would say that the proximity key is much more handy than a regular physical key - I hate fishing for my keys in my pocket or bag when my hands are full or I'm holding onto my dogs leashes.
      Ford also does it where it locks the gear selector in park when the key is not in the vehicle. It can be beneficial, or it could be a giant pita, depending upon the situation you find yourself in.
