I bought my 2024 Crosstrek in April, and used the garage door opener to program the mirror. It didn't work, but after watching this video I was able to use the "learn button" on the garage door motor and program the mirror to open my garage door. I am thrilled. Thanks for your awesome videos. I have learned so much from them and are grateful that you share these.
Alex, I just purchased a 2022 Forester Touring. I needed help sync'ing up my garage door opener with the vehicle. Your video was very helpful. Your hints were concise/helpful and very easy to follow. So, thanks, you were a much better instructor that the dealership.
Once again, your video has saved me a ton of time. I used this video 3 years ago when I bought my Subaru but we just moved and am so glad that I saved it. Thank you so much!!!
Alex, your videos are wonderful. I just got a new Crosstrek Limited and after watching many of your videos, I feel much further along the learning curve than I would have otherwise. This one was really helpful as I was able to complete the connection with the entry gate into my development and my garage door, both on the first try. Thanks again.
I was def having trouble until I watched your video. Used the Learn button and pressed the Homelink button 3 times and voila, it worked! Thanks much for the assist. 2022 Subaru Legacy just received 4 days ago.
Alex, your video is the ONLY one that correctly showed me how to do this with my 2017 legacy ….. no one else mentioned the delays or that it would work on the second time you used it to open the door ……thanks just subscribed Matt
Thank you for posting this video , I’ve been trying to to program my garage door for the past month and a half and after watching your video had no problems getting it the garage door programmed.
Got my new Outback Touring package today and to think I was prepared to read the manual and was going to start with easy Garage door then I see this... You did a great job,! Thank you
Hi Alex. I’ve been watching your videos in my research. I just bought a 2023 Subaru Forester Limited. One thing to note on mine. I had to have the ignition on to program my Homelink mirror. I know you mentioned you could have the car on or off, but on my 2023 Forester, it had to be on.
this is awesome, my garage door opener is old and even programming it to a regular garage door opener was so difficult. this took me less than 15 seconds to do, love it and thanks so much
Worked like a charm! First time I've ever been able to sync my Homelink and my garage door! I had to have my car on while I programmed it (2022 Crosstrek) but it only took 10 seconds! Thank you!
Did this with mine at a friends house, where I consistently dog-sit on weekends every couple of months. I already have keys etc... but this will make it easier if I do a costco run or whatever for them or if we take my car to go do running when I'm just hanging out with them. The 'Learn' button is a PITA on the actual motor unit, and I was doing it solo, so I just parked inside and did it all from the passenger seat through the sunroof.
Once again, thank you so much, I guess I am lazy and I would much rather learn a new technique from you than to read and experiment with the manual instructions, lol! Great video!
Wow !! that's cool that you can check and see if your door is open or closed, I can't tell you how many times I have turned around to check my garage door. Lol !!!! Also, I am really enjoying your videos. I have learned a lot !!!! I will be ordering a Forester as soon as ordering opens up again..... and I certainly hope that it opens soon. I am really looking forward to owning my 1st Subaru. My husband bought a Imprezza 2 years ago and he loves it.
I own an Outback and just realized that the garage door opener will work regardless of whether the key fob is in the car or not. This means that if you forget to lock the car at night anyone can come by and push the button and open your garage door. This is a massive security risk and I would recommend disabling the garage door opener for this reason unless there is a work around.
Nope. We have a 2020 Forester and the homelink will not activate unless the car has power (engine on or engine start/stop button pushed). For example, when we arrive home and turn the car off, the homelink button does nothing. Have to give the car power in order for homelink to work.
Oh my lord. Thank you so much. I was at my wits end getting this paired. Your video made it work the first time. Man I can't thank you enough. Great job.
You are one of the best RUclips channels! Your videos are well done and very instructive. I purchased a 23 CrossTrek for many reasons, and your advice was very helpful :)
I love this mirror! It's really easy to set up. I only have the one garage door. So, I only need to use one of the buttons. I also appreciate what you said about cancelling out the buttons if you sell the car. Of course, being that I just got a 2022 Forester, that won't be happening for a long! LOL! Thanks Alex!
When adding a clicker to an old system I found I had to pair my clicker to a Home-Link button, then hit the learn button on the opener unit and go back to press the assigned Home-Link button in the car. The old lift unit could not connect directly after just programming the button with the working clicker. It needed then to learn how Home-Link transmitted that learned signal in order to make it work! After a month of trying, I finally won the race! 😅 I didn’t catch that this might be needed from any of the multiple ‘how to’ vids posted; just stumbled to it on my own. Maybe I have one of the oldest lifters out there. 😊
Your comment got me there, I guess some openers are just a little more difficult 😅 But I find the engine must be on (not just accessories) to use this feature, not ideal to have the engine running before opening the garage 🤷♂️ Thanks for your comment, it was driving me crazy!
Some of the best RUclips videos! I just purchased a new 2023 Forester Premium with home link. I'm frustrated with the garage door opener. It seems to work with the ignition on, but not with it off. My wife's 2020 Nissan Rogue SLawd works either with the ignition on or off. ???
Hi Alex, My wife and I are on the fence about getting one of the Wilderness models. There's a lot of additional accessories on the website, and we were wondering if you could do a vid on the wide variety available. Thanks for the great videos that you do.
Hey Alex. As always, I appreciate your videos and look forward to them. I just picked up my 2022 Forester Sport after a 4 month wait and am loving it. I have a question which is unrelated to the topic here but hope you can help me. In my secondary screen above the dash, my weather is showing me the temps for somewhere in New York while I love in Toronto Canada. Could you tell me how to change that. I thank you for your time and hope things pick up for all you sales people soon. Cheers
Thank you so much for your videos. Very helpful. I am having trouble syncing my garage door opener. I lost my remote so I am using the learn button on the garage door opener. The light on the garage door learn button comes on but on the rear view mirror the light flashes orange. No matter how long I hold the button down it still flashes orange. It is a Sears garage door opener about 10+ years old I think. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much
Good video. I plan on doing our forester wilderness when we get it back after the damage from when the vehicle was transported to the dealership is repaired

What if your garage door was synced with the mirror’s #2 button, which two buttons on the mirror would you depress in order to ascertain that status? Thanks!
This was awesome.! It was quick and easy. However, the video says you can have your car off or on while setting but I found it only worked with the car on. Not sure why.
Hi Alex, Thanks for sharing. Do you need to keep your garage remote control around after completing the setup or can you leave it at home and still your the homelink feature? Thanks
Alex, I've watched your videos and the videos of others and still no luck with my 2004 Outback XT. I've programmed two Benzes, a Lexus, a Toyota and an aftermarket remote from Amazon but no luck with the Outback. The orange light on the mirror is always blinking whether I short press or press and hold. I've been using the learn feature on my Genie opener but no go. Even parked the outback in the next bay so it is as close I can get it to the opener but no luck. Any thoughts? Love your vides and love my Outback.

Thank you for this video. New 22 Outback Onyx owner (love it). I use this opener for a driveway gate. I find the signal to be quite weak, especially if I’m backing out of the driveway (I have to get the car just a foot or two from the gate). My old car (Honda Odyssey) could open the gate from 50’. Is this weak signal to be expected from the Outback? Thank you.

Hi Alex, love your videos, am learning so much on my new Forester Wilderness. The garage door opener is not working with either technique shown in the video. what kind of trouble shooting can I do? Is it limited to only certain openers? I have a Chamberlain door opener. Please advise, thx
Alex, I followed your step-by-step instructions on this video. The indicator on the mirror is "green" but it won't open or close my garage door. I even cancelled the process and started over. Again the light on the mirror will flash green but will not open my garage door. Help!! Thanks.

Hi Alex, love your videos, am learning so much on my new Forester Wilderness. The garage door opener is not working with either technique shown in the video. what kind of trouble shooting can I do? Is it limited to only certain openers? I have a Chamberlain door opener. Please advise, thx
Can you sync up the garage door opener from one car to a second that already has that signal.
Alex, I followed your step-by-step instructions on this video. The indicator on the mirror is "green" but it won't open or close my garage door. I even cancelled the process and started over. Again the light on the mirror will flash green but will not open my garage door. Help!! Thanks.
Super easy. Thanks
My mirror has 6 memory buttons. 2023 outback touring xl. I need to do this.
Did Subaru get rid of just the regular auto dimming mirrow with compass WITHOUT the homelink? I can only find the mirror with homelink and I just wanted to get the one with the compass but without homelink
