What does the electrified future mean for transmissions?

Among the many other changes they bring to a truck’s powertrain, battery electric trucks certainly don’t have the 18-speed transmissions we’re used to. Forget the switch from manual to automated manual-this is a much bigger change. So what does this mean for truck transmissions?
Eaton, for one, has been focused on four-speed transmissions for both medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks. Wondering why four-speeds, and what all of these changes mean for truck transmissions, I stopped by their booth at ACT Expo to ask them these questions.

Why they are going away from the transmissions used in ICE confuse me. The electric motors would not use as much energy in the different gear ratios similar to an ICE. ZF already makes an efficient 8 speed hybrid transmission
