  • BUY, LEASE OR FINANCE A JAGUAR F-TYPE FROM OSV: bit.ly/3qei0HL
Jaguar describes this improved F-TYPE Coupe as the most capable and involving car it's ever built. It's sleeker, faster and classier, cementing the Coventry brand's reputation as an ever more credible rival to Porsche, reviving memories of some of the company's legendary classic coupes. It handles. It goes. And it delivers.
    Background
What, commentators like us wondered at the Jaguar F-TYPE Convertible's original introduction in 2013, would a more focused fixed-top version be like, a stiffer, sportier, even more dynamic thing? This Coupe model, first launched early in 2014, gave us our answer. It was rigid, rakish and revved like a race car. Well now, Jaguar claims to have made it faster, better looking and even more desirable. Still want that Porsche 718 Cayman S? Try one of these first.
    Driving Experience
Jaguar has now pensioned off its 3.0-litre supercharged V6, but instead, offers F-TYPE buyers who don't want the entry-level 2.0-litre four cylinder 300PS unit a new 450PS version of its classic supercharged V8. This fiery powerplant develops a prodigious 580Nm of torque from just 2,500rpm. If that's not enough, the F-TYPE R continues at the top of the range with a 575PS version of the same V8. In terms of drive formats, the four cylinder model comes only with rear wheel drive; the 450PS V8 can be ordered with either rear wheel drive or AWD; and the F-TYPE R comes only with AWD. Got all that? I'll be asking questions later.
Personally, I usually like my automotive sound effects to come from the engine rather than, as here, the tailpipes at the back but even I have to admit that this car hums an addictive tune. Whichever variant you choose, performance is striking. Even the feeblest 300PS model makes 60mph from rest in just 5.7s, while the 450PS V8 models make 60mph in just 4.4s on the way to 177mph. Finally, the F-TYPE R covers off that sprint in just 3.5s en route to 186mph. Across the range, you get an all-aluminium chassis, double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link-suspended rear.
All F-TYPES feature auto gearboxes (the manual previously available in the four cylinder car has been discontinued). Changes to the Quickshift auto transmissions in both the F-TYPE R and the 450PS V8 models promise a more engaging driving experience. The F-TYPE R specifically offers even faster, crisper gear changes when the driver commands shifts manually via the steering wheel-mounted paddles or the SportShift gear selector. Both upshifts and downshifts are more immediate and give an even more connected and responsive feel.
    Design and Build
The visual changes made to this improved model are significant, centring mostly on a front end now embellished by super-slim pixel LED headlights that blend into the 'liquid metal' surfacing' of the restyled clamshell bonnet. There's also a new front bumper and a subtly enlarged grille that aim to deliver more visual impact and presence. And the slender rear lights have been revised too, featuring an LED chicane signature inspired by the Jaguar I-PACE. We still think that visually, the F-TYPE Coupe bodyshape works really well, with its short wheelbase, power-packed set of rear haunches and elegant roof line. It manages to make the Porsche Cayman seem rather hall-of-mirrors in its proportioning and while it's not as instantly beautiful as an Aston Martin Vantage, it looks as if it would thoroughly work the Vantage over in a bar fight.
The interior hasn't changed much, continuing to combine traditional Jaguar craftsmanship with rich, contemporary materials such as Windsor Leather and satin-finish Noble Chrome. Beautiful details include monogram stitch patterns in the seats and door trims, Jaguar Leaper motifs in the headrests, and subtle 'Jaguar Est.1935' markings on the centre console finisher, glovebox release button surround, and seatbelt guides. The boot remains relatively big, giving the F-TYPE Coupe genuine GT potential.

Jaguar F Type suits me best.........''but I will wait 2 or 3 years to see if they survive Brexit'' . Strike my comment. If Jag plan to abandon Petrol F Type in 4 years there is no point buying one (I had a Rover 800 a few years after production stopped, faulty eng management unit, 23 available at Longbridge........but they could not find what shelf it was on. Bought a Jag S Type 2 weeks after that news.
Porche 911 992 now only option.

Jaguar please. Jag v Porsche is a perfect example of heart v head . If head dominates, buy a Nissan micra. If heart / soul dominates, get this !
Nice review, although one question; why was it interspersed with “ thrash metal , Uber mega death , apocalyptic rebellion , crush the universe” music?! I would expect OSV to use a Brahms lullaby or something!

On V6 and V8 cars the Y pipe in the cooling system under the supercharger is a common failure point on pre 2018 cars. The upgraded post 2018 or an aftermarket upgraded version of the part really should be fitted to replace it. The part is not expensive but the supercharger has to come off to do it so labour can be costly.

I traded in my Aston Martin 2009 DB9 for the V8 dynamic R in British racing green.
It’s more reliable, sound system is better, the DB9 was more comfortable on long trips (western Canadas long ones ) the F-type is quicker from stop, the Aston seemed to turn heads more.
In general the DB9 just had me worried in the last few years with minor breakdowns brakes, were a nagging issue as was some of the electrics. In my opinion the F-type looks better than most cars from the rear. I don’t like the front light changes made I prefer the older larger lights in previous years. I’ve had a lot of sports cars over the years but I must say my new Jaguar has pleased me on many levels including price which seemed much more reasonable. I live in a city of around 115,000 there is only my jag here so I drive a few 100KM’s for service which is a pain.

@@JohnAgustinScuderia458595 I have an XE R Sport P300 with full active dynamics and 18 way seats. I need the occasional use of 4 seats but essentially it is a stretched F type on similar frame and suspension.
It is fine. Refined. It handles well on Scottish B Roads. It is comfortable. To get max performance you need to put it in dynamic and sport then it is a rocket up to about 85 and then it tails off to being just rapid.
Ecconomy tails off if you drive above 75/80 mph on the motorway (my old S Type 2.5L V6 200hp gave about 5mpg more on a fast motorway run. Ditto on a short 9 mile run to local town if I use high revs a couple of times I drop from 35mpg to 28mpg.
It gives around 29mpg over the 9k miles I have done since new in Oct 2018 (Covid means it spends it's time in the garage). By comparison my V6 S type returned 35mpg on a high speed motorway run accross Germany and 25mpg over a full tank in typical mixed driving.
I am happy with the comfort, handling and 'lack of noise'. By that I mean the engine and exhaust note would not appeal to motoring journalists or kids with back to front baseball caps. My old V6 S Type purred taking it easy and growled if I pushed it. The XE is quiet taking it easy and quiet if I push it.
I am 60 and have driven a Jag since 2003 so like the brand, I am not at the trilby on the back shelf yet so still enjoy the car for what it is.
Would I buy a P300 f type. Nope. It does not have option of adaptive dynamics and I like the XE in comfort setting. Choose dynamic for the dampers and the noise in the cabin on a B Road is too much - not the car but my wife complaining as it is too firm for typical surface away from motorway or A road, and on motorways or A roads you don't need the firmer setting so I have disabled it and the dynamic steering, just selecting dynamic fir gears and engine.......but really only ever use it to overtake. Comfort and Normal is fine.
For background my first choice of XE was P250 (back when P380 V6 was available, but I wanted the everyday ecconomy ) but by the time I pressed the trigger the P300 was available so I chose that and I do not regret it.
I would look at a V6 P380 f type as 1st choice (now not available) or a P450 or P575 but would need a test drive to make sure it is not to noisy in normal driving and on the motorway. If my budget did not stretch to the V8 or it was too noisey then I would stick to the XE P300, it is worth considering to save 10k for a specced up XE vs base f type P300.......but you loose the look of the f type.....hard one as I did think about it myself.
The XE P300 in the spec I have I love. Only complaint is Ecco mode, ideal for cruising, reduces the aircon to the point you stew even under the spring sun in Scotland.....so that mode dont get used. I got SDRl, the updated snow mode and it is really good on summer tyres in the snow if you take it real easy, and winter tyres would make it very capable. Comfort is good so I would recommend upgrading to 12 way seats on the f type. Electric boot is a waste of time as is mudflaps (JLRs way of fixing them with glue and spring clamps is terrible, mine was taken back to have both sets replaced after one front flap started to twist due to poor fitting and the rear started to peel off), ditto fancy floor mats - the garage never supplied them and I only found out a year later.....so after complaining and driving in to pick them up I noe use the std ones in winter and the deep pile in summer. The deep pile would be a nightmare in Scottish winter, permant sponge.
      Hope this helps.
      Jim

Its depends on dollars, the 911 price is dreamland. At dollar parity, its 700HP/700TQ against less than half that. Same weight. The F is 1.5 secs faster to 60, and thats the worst possible test since Porsche optimizes everything for arbitrary 0-60 and Jag could not care less about cooking for a specific test.
In handling, the 911 is the worst car ever made. So bad, it the legendary "dentist window maker" was cancelled by Porsche for the, actually good, 928.
Luxury is VW Group vs Jaguar. Worst vs best.

    • @nessuno5403
      @nessuno5403 2 года назад

@@FFE-js2zp yes, by models, I implied dollars. The F Type is not up to 911 standards (and I love the F Type more). You referencing the 928 means you're stuck in the past (and I too often associate 911 to the Beetle).

    • @FFE-js2zp
      @FFE-js2zp 2 года назад

      @@nessuno5403
The 928 is still VASTLY superior to any 911. Its 50/50 mid engine V8, same as the F. The 911 was canned specifically for its putrid, out of balance handling. And its a 6 turbo which is obviously cost cutting crap. No one serious about cars buys VW 6. Unless its a Beetle GSR, which aside from adding 2 seconds to the 2.1 sec stock 0-60 for turbo spool, was certainly faster than any 911 sibling could muster.

The best real life comparison of these two cars was done by Christina Khalil, shes an underwear model, so its entertaining. She compared a 495HP F to a far more expensive 911 Beetle. Bottom line: she described driving the detuned F as the "best day if my life" vs the 911 as her biggest car disappointment. That's a pretty accurate summation.

All Porsche looked like a squashed VW Beetle!
"Sorry it doesn't have the agility of a rival Porsche". What a dumb statement. No rear engined car can out perform a front engined car unless you counterweight the front end with a bag of cement or similar.
I wonder how many "cheap" plastic parts from a VW Polo or VW Fox are shared with the old hat design Porsche? Probably quite a lot but the Porsche fan reviewing this Jaguar wouldn't want to disclose that.
In truth, the Porsche Cayman isn't a 911 and is a boring midfield neither something or the other car!

Jaguar/Land Rover are one of the best selling brands in the world. There build quality are as good if not better than most European built ones. And if you want to mention unreliability then start with Ferrari and Lambo who are well know for this. Now that Nissan are going to build its electric cars here, others will follow. The UK is on the up.
