Great review. Where I live in the US, BMWs are fairly common. I drive an F30, there are four more BMWs on my block, and they are often seen around town. Jaguar, particularly the F-Type, is very rare, even though my local dealer sells both brands. I believe it's down to pricing and service costs. It really stands out as a beautiful exotic car here. I have both a JB4 BMW 135i M package dynoed at 420HP (4100 lbs cuz covertible) and an F-Type V8S (3650 lb convertible) tuned and dynod at 695 HP and the Jaguar is a full 2.5 secs faster to 60 mph. I also have $54,000 in relentless repairs in my 135i and a 6 ft long oil spill on its side of the driveway, vs a battery change under warranty on the Jag. It was $25,000 just for the BMW mastertech to tear down the engine to fish the VANOS bolts out of the oil pan and get it back up to speed. Two weeks of labor.
I think if you lived by a track and drove around there all the time, the BMW is unquestionably going to be better. For the rest of us who have to drive everywhere on poor quality B roads, you're going to get a lot more enjoyment from the Jag, even if just for the better exhaust note. Just a moment - that was a manual BMW M2 CS against a standard F-Type P450, Automatic, AWD and less than a second slower round a track, in the dry. A stunning win for Jaguar, surely?
The F Type wins hands down. It's a great all round car. I can drive mine sensibly and get 35mpg but switch on the Dynamic and Sports mode and drift the back out at will plus the pops, crackles and bangs the car makes gives it a massive fun factor.
Part of buying a small sports coupe for most people is about the fun factor of how RWD acts. That's why AWD's manageability in the wet isn't a huge deal for a car like these. Also, the old F-Type looks better.
The Jag did not have the same tires......big deal not mentioned....it may have been a lot faster on that track with cup 2's.....just a thought. Stock tires on Jaguars around here have been horrible....making the results of the video shocking to me if the jag was on P zero's and the BMW on cup 2's...that woudl put the Jag ahead of the M2cs on track on the same rubber....or darned close...amazing. The V6 is 150kg lighter and that might be "THE" jag to have...if you can find one.
Not sure I understand the rationale of getting rid of the V6 Jag for this generation, especially when you’re only gaining 25 horses in the top spec and supposedly losing some of that sound as mentioned. I guess the four-pot fills the 300-350 BHP power range that used to belong to the V6, but if you need a spec with 450 BHP, surely improve the V6 (which they already had at 400 circa. 2018). Why make a “poor man’s” V8 version, adding more weight to the front end and therefore giving the engineers an unnecessary headache in terms of dialling out any understeer that would naturally cause, yet purposefully taking 100 horses away from it compared to the original V8 to fill that gap in the range? Seems like they’ve missed a trick by not instead upping the power on the V6, getting rid of the V8 in the standard line-up, and then making an SVR even more special by having that be the only way to get a V8 F-Type. Maybe Jag need me on their product development team.
What is this obsession with drifting? Its idiotic. And why doesn’t every road test mention the brands reliability? These complex cars just won’t last in the way a 90’s sports car does today.
M2 CS..i will enjoy it for 3 years everyday. Jaguar .. i will enjoy it for less 1 year because i will have to send back for repair or electrical faults very often. Sorry Jaguar.. your reliability is bad.
I test drove the M2 Comp and M4 along with the F-Type R (v8 550hp). Although I loved the M2 Comp, the drama and power of the Jaguar make it soooo much more fun for me. Also looks are no comparison. On a track, no doubt the M2 is better, but day to day - it's exhaust is lame (couldn't hear much with the windows down even) and looks just ok imo. F-Type is all on - crazy sound, huge HP and crazy good looks.. I got the F-Type and LOVE it.

The older f type svr is much nicer and sounds much better to they have killed the f type with the new one and the BMW they are always nice cars ;)
Love the old F-Type SVR, sounds insane!
When the M2 CS weighs the same as the regular M2 competition you know BMW lost its focus.
Depends what their focus actually was for the car?
If it had been called a csl I would have agreed with you but its not a lightweight version.
There's no comparison between BMW, Jaguar and BMW much better.
Both great 👍🏻
