Oh Merle how I do miss you, I was just a kid when I fell in love with your voice and songs Daddy used to play! Year's passed before Porter Wagoner saw me just six weeks after I'd made the move into Nashville and got a job before I made that move as my boyfriend I'd met there, at the Nashville Palace a couple years before he was Country Music's legend George Jones bass player and George's right-hand man since he was just a kid himself! Ron Gaddis and I had had a hit before meeting with a label called Playback Records, but he got me gig's with him yet I was just a teenager and scared to make the move where the only people I knew there were on the rd. far more than they were home! So, after securing a job there in my sixth week there, after I'd come off stage and signed some autographs and posed with those who wanted a photo of this tall blonde with a voice that belted out, a guy who bussed tables said in this crowed large long room that Porter Wagoner was requesting to speak with me! I with every step thought if this dude thinks he can convince me that he is Porter Wagoner as he started to come into view, as I saw a guy in a Bass Pro shop ball cap and a flannel shirt looking nothing like the man I had watched all my life I thought he got a heated entertainer with each step in 4-inch heeled boots! Finally, I reached this guys table and that old familiar voice was one I quickly recognized and from that moment my hands were shacking showing this kid was star struct as He said "Well Hello there, and in a night forever engrained in my soul as I had just met the man who was over the Grand Ole Opry as this was long after Roy Acuff had passed, and in the next week he'd gotten me signed in to playing with his televised portion Live ! he had signed me on to me my manager and producer and my seventh week there My family and friends back home were able to watch it live and my whole life changed! In no time I was meeting all those who had so inspired my music like Merle, John, and June, Loretta, Waylon, and Willie and so many other's that I had only dreamed of meeting, but to then be able to not just call so many my hero's and inspiration I soon called them all my dearest friends! Porter like so many other dear friends like Vern, Earl Thomas C., and I could go on and on never got all of the recognition that they all so deserved! Porter had his on T.V show that ran for twenty-seven years, not to mention he was the longest signed artist ever signed to RCA, then just before he passed he was finally inducted into the Hall Of Fame, after watching so many he'd given their first break to be inducted so many years before! Today Country music isn't even Country to me, all pretty much but for a tiny few all sound alike to me when with my heroes and friends you knew exactly who they were from the first note on...I sure do miss the days when all my radio heroes were on the radio! Now I choose to listen to their great works on classic country stations! Thanking God that their records of so many that we've lost are still able to be heard!
