    Thank you for uploading this. Why have I never seen this video before ... Everyone talks about the Celtics/Lakers rivalry but Bird & Magic always had this great brotherhood/true friendship between them. I can hear these 2 talk basketball all day.

    I still watch NBA today, but man has the game changed. It's slower paced with players fishing for fowl shots by exaggerating a touch. The NBA of the 80s with Bird, Magic, Jordan, etc was something to behold. Grittier, faster paced, and no fowl shots unless you were legitimately fowled.

      Yeah, it was getting out of hand especially with the physicality the Pistons brought to the game. The pendulum has definitely swung in the other direction for sure.
      However, the three point shot has really changed the game. Whether it is for the better or worse.

    The difference is the 2 older men made the nba what it is today. It would not exist and you wouldn't know about the other two.

    Damn, two LEGENDS hopped on the phone and Larry even cried??? Whew, good thing those guys would never be friendly with each other in the 80s and 90s like the players are today. Would’ve made bball terrible back then!

    I don’t know much about Carmelo, but he doesn’t come off as likable as LeBron. He’s kinda stuck on himself & I can tell that the dedication factor is waaaay different in the younger generation than in Magic & Larry’s time.

    In this interview Larry Bird says that the best athletes are African-American. When Larry Bird speaks about stuff like that in terms of basketball it's gospel.

    • @irishgrl
      @irishgrl 2 года назад +3

      I respect Larry’s opinion but I believe that an elite athlete can come from any race….OBVIOUSLY since Larry is living proof.
      I also think different sports have different skills that are needed.
      Edit to add: I’m 24 minutes into a 27 minute interview & I have not heard Larry actually SAY that??? I know he’s said it elsewhere, but I haven’t heard it here YET.

      @@irishgrl it would be interesting to see how he would fare in the league with today's science and medical advancements at his disposal. Conversely no pun intended it would be interesting to see how the rest of the league would fare against him. I've said in the past the only thing that could stop Larry Bird began with M but it's not Magic, Michael or the team from Detroit Michigan. It's Michelob McDonald's and mortar.... I recant that. Those didn't stop him either.

      @@ruminator3570 Larry Bird was faster than Luka, smarter than jokic, shoots like Curry,rebounds and hustles like rodman. A better defender than all of those players except for rodman..
      This new league has a wide open lane, and fingernail fouls. Bird would be top tier today. Just like he was when healthy.

    Bird and Magic DOMINATE them. LeBron is soft AF and has no heart. MJ said it best(who was 0-6 vs Larry in the playoffs, mostly when Bird's back was already destroyed-post MVP seasons), Bird is the best SF to ever play the game. GOAT.
