  • I made a large bowl out of olive wood and blue epoxy resin.
I have a large plastic bowl filled with chunks of olive wood and blue epoxy.
After the epoxy had hardened, I removed the blank from the mold and flattened the protruding pieces of wood on the top.
When the top was flat, I mounted the faceplate on it and then mounted the blank with the faceplate on the lathe.
After turning the outside, I planned to reverse mount it with a glue block, but because of the size and weight of the blank I decided to mount it with a chuck.
So even though I had already finished the outside, I still made a recess in it.
I first finished the bowl with 2 layers of sealer and then sanded it to 400 grit and then added friction polish.
The bowl has a diameter of 33 centimeters and is 17 centimeters high.

Hey Leo, yes, it turned out to be a beautiful bowl, it's just a shame that epoxy makes so much mess.

Wow! That’s a really beautiful bowl. Love the colour of the resin 👍

Thank you for your compliment. I only put the mixed resin in the mold at the last minute, just before it solidifies, so the colors do not mix completely but form swirls 😊👍

Some project, Hans! A deep pour! Impressive result! Fortunately it doesn’t leave a mess when turning epoxy 😂… I noticed that you are very fond of the EasyTool carbide chisels. Are they any good? And any particular reason to use carbide and not bowl gouges? Btw, the OneWay live center is a very nice piece of equipment! Thanks for the tip! Cheers, __Frank

Thank you, Frank. Yes, epoxy wood turning makes a lot of mess. I often use my carbide tools because they stay sharp much longer, and I can exchange them for negative rake chisels for the epoxy 👍👍

Hello, I use Borma Wachs Base for fast drying wood filler, which is multi-functional, you can use it as a sealer but also mix it with sanding dust to make a filler to fill small cracks. partsandpieces.nl/en/product/borma-wachs-basis-voor-sneldrogende-houtvuller/ 👍👍
