  • I made a large economy bowl from many different pieces of scrap wood.
    I first glued slats from the wood and then glued them into a board.
    Furthermore, I cut out the rings on the lathe and then glued them into a bowl.
    I finished the bowl with two layers of sealer and then used friction polish.
    The bowl has a diameter of 50 centimeters and is 18 centimeters high.

      Thank you Mike, yes it is definitely an economy bowl, I made this from the leftover wood that was lying around in the workshop. So my workshop was cleared out and I made this bowl. 😀

    Thanks for sharing. Returning Support with Full View and Like.. Great work. I'm working on a baby Economy bowl now.. My little lathe could barely cut through my board so I ended up just having one cut lol..

      Hello Allen, thank you for watching my video and your reply, if you have a bandsaw you can also saw the half rings and glue them together to create an economy bowl.

    Desparate times call for desperate measures Hans.
    Still I do not believe you have run out of wood! 😎

      Thank you, Leo, no, my wood supply is certainly not finished yet, but this is a good encouragement to clean up the workshop and make a fun project with it 😀

      Thank you, Brett. Yes, it is certainly a whopper.
      An economy bowl is a practical and economical way to make a bowl from a board, can be made into beautiful patterns, and is a technique that I use more often.

    Economy bowls are a great way to use scrap materials. And when you do and your result is as nice as yours, it is great. Good job. What do you sue to keep your angle of reference when separating your rings from the main board? Do you have a guide or just use your eye to decide the angle you are parting?

    • @hbwoodturning17
      @hbwoodturning17  3 месяца назад

      Thank you Jack, it is certainly a good way to use your scrap wood. I place a strip of plywood on the bed of the lathe on which I have marked the slopes of the rings and I use that to look over to determine the slope of the parting tool
      👍👍

    What is your thickness of the blank? And what angle are you using?

    • @hbwoodturning17
      @hbwoodturning17  Месяц назад

      Hello Norbert, thank you for watching my video and your reply, the blank I use is 46 mm thick, the angle I use varies between approximately 35 and 55 degrees, I made the bottom ring the smallest angle and the top ring the largest angle.
      Because I have varied the angles in this way, the bowl gives a trumpet shape, which I find more attractive than a cone shape, the disadvantage is that I can make fewer rings from it, and another disadvantage is that you have to go much deeper with the parting tool.
