      Anthony as a You Tube guy myself, I was talked into doing a kit build, I wish I never agreed to this, it takes forever and several episodes to do it correctly. The build becomes a Yawn Fest, check out PMCMP and see my 1/48 C-47 Spooky Gunship build, it is way too long. Keep on modeling!!!!!!

    • @NyteStalker89
      @NyteStalker89 5 месяцев назад

      @@user-zg8ke5bn1f Andy has done build videos before... It being a yawn fest honestly comes down to how much effort you want to put into recording and slicing and editing. PLENTY of youtubers do out of the box sprue reviews followed by well edited "vlogs" of the build, either in a single video or several. Hell, some folks for the takom/Meng Apaches have build series going on 80 25-30min videos. and they aren't yawn fests. Just cause you don't like the process doesn't mean others feel the same as there are more modelling youtube channels that do actual builds than just sprue reviews.

    From the time of my old Airfix B-24 I remember that a) it is a tail-sitter, so you need weights in the nose, which is tricky because of the nosewheel bay, and b) the kit is very heavy for the plastic landing gear. Both of the main legs were broken after a while. I think one of the most necessary aftermarket addition would be brass main gear struts.

    • @stephenwhelan2515
      @stephenwhelan2515 6 месяцев назад +2

      Agreed - and i did not see hobby boss make any mention of nose weight in the instructions ( unless I missed it). I built the hobby boss 1/48 F84F a few years back and there was no mention of nose weighting in that kit. Also the main landing gear snapped after a few days so metal landing gear might be needed for this particular kit, as with all of that interior detail it could be fairly weighty.

    I love how Andy does the kit reviews and other videos. Well done, thank you.
    Many others spend most of the time focused on their face, briefly and quickly showing the kit boxes or sprues. Others should learn from him.
    You see videos showcasing a real tank, aircraft, etc. and most of the time the camera is focused on the presenter's face.

    It seems Hobby boss remembered to model the wings correctly this time, unlike their 1/32 scale B-24 kits👍👍. There is always room for (after market) improvements, but this looks like it will build up very nicely OOB.

    Sadly the bomb aimer's window is wrong. The Ford built LIberators all had plexiglass stretching back along the fuselage - check any reference and you will see. This one seems to be a San Diego or Fort Worth built example. I also note that the front and rear turret glass is split along the top, so you cannot hide the join. Surprising in this day and age.

    • @fergie89
      @fergie89 5 месяцев назад

      Nope, it's correct. The B-24J that is currently still flying wearing the Witchcraft livery started life in 1944 at Consolidated's factory in Fort Worth, Texas and is what this kit is based on. The original Witchcraft was a B-24H made by ford, yes, but that's not what this kit is. If you want more info on it, check out the collings foundation's page about it.

    "Witchcraft" was a B24H model and had the "Ford shelf" below the nose turret as well as a different bomb aimer's window(the rear section sloped backwards)l believe the new Airfix B24H has these correct parts .lt has always been a little annoying that all Liberator kits that are packaged as the H model have the wrong nose parts resulting in having to "kit bash" them if you want it to look authentic.The larger the scale ,the more it shows as being wrong.

    • @fergie89
      @fergie89 5 месяцев назад

      You are right about the original, but the only flying B-24J that remains is rocking the witchcraft livery, so it is not incorrect to have a B-24J as witchcraft in a kit.

    I’m currently building the 1/32 D. This mostly is a scaled down version of it. There are couple things I would have hoped they would have learned from and corrected. 1. With all the internal details the nose is sparse. 2. The fore and aft turrets are 2 pieces of clear plastic split down the middle.

    I notice they appear to have molded the dorsal turret transparency correctly this time....with no outer framing....just a clear bubble top. Yet strangely, in the instructions art, they show it with the spurious framing. It's part # 10 in the clear parts. The part itself appears to be quite correct, unlike what is shown in the instruction drawings....so it should be just fine. The tail and nose turrets are still divided down the middle, unfortunately. There will probably be aftermarket parts made by somebody.

That plane flew 97 missions before it ended up back in the US, so there were a lot of other crews that flew her, and lots of photos were taken before the plane was shredded. Mostly criticisms, but here’s my take -
    1. The propeller blades look too wide.
    2. Very sparse detail on the engines to the point they look toy-ish.
    3. They fixed the wing root gaffe that is on their 1/32 kit, so that’s a big plus
    4. Why oh why the split glass on the turrets??? It’s going to be impossible to fix/hide that seam!
    5. Very “polka dot” looking rivet detail on the bomb bay doors. In fact, from an accuracy standpoint, I don’t think there should be rivets on the bomb bay doors at all.
    That’s what I noticed first look. Anyhoo, ~$130 USD for this kit?? No way is it worth that much. The only thing I’m seeing that this kit has over the 50-year old Monogram kit is some better surface detail. That’s it.

    Very disappointed with the turrets. There has been a lot of very impressive work gone into this kit yet once again, as with the recent 1/32 offerings, the turrets have been split vertically and not horizontal, resulting in a ugly and very inaccurate join seam right through the glazing which cannot be taken out., I managed to mold new clear tops to my old Monogram turrets without too much trouble which look accurate and far better, I would have thought in this day and age that would have been an easy fix.

    Part 21 of politely asking for a 1/16 scale T32E1 it would go well with your tiger

    I'm going to acquire one hopefully for my birthday, next month. However, I plan on turning mine into an RAF Coastal Command GR VI. 😊❤😊

    Those engines look a little underwhelming for 48th scale. In 72nd scale that level of detail would suffice, but not in 48th.

    My Uncle Jimmy flew B-24's, he went to Polesti (sp?) once and Swinefurt (sp?) twice, then somehow became one of Rickover's guys working on Nuclear Submarines. Found a picture of him and Rickover in some book holding a model of what the new submarine would look like. When he came home he became a motel / hotel owner on Cape Cod. When I asked what he did on the Nuclear Boats, he told me "We Submerged and Surfaced", so shut my mouth. This new bird looks real good, I have built the Monogram 24 a couple of times as a youngster, but this bad boy looks way better than the old Monogram deal. Andy doing the kit review is very COOL, so good to see it before ya dump a bunch o' bucks on it. I too ran a Hobby Shop across from the Railroad Bridge that crosses the Cape Cod Canal, met several former B-24 guys there. Keep up the good work Andy, I as well do video's on RUclips under the heading PMCMP. Thanks for this kit review !!!

    It doesn't look that much better than the Monogram kit. The engines in particular are quite poor considering it's a $130 modern kit and the details lack crispness in general.

    Sorry they forgot the name of the manufacturer: Consolidated, previously maker of the the PBY Catalina with same engines (Pratt and Whitney Twin Wasp). Soon after merged with Vultee Aircraft to form Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft, Convair in Short.
