  • No, it's not currently snowing here in Kansas City, I'm just very late uploading this video, thank you for your patience.
    I'm so happy to finally have these springs. I felt like I had to make excuses for how terrible the ride in my car was before, but now the suspension feels properly tuned. I can't wait to get this car out to a track and see what it's capable of.

      The swift spring is shorter right? So would you have to order the extreme low coilovers to use the Swifts? Or can u just use regular bc coilovers with swift?

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  8 месяцев назад

      @damnitdang The swift springs are not inherently shorter, you can buy them in varying lengths. The BC coilovers can accommodate a variety of spring lengths because they have independently adjustable perches for both spring preload and ride height settings.

  • @rholt7551
    @rholt7551 2 года назад +6

    It would have been a better comparison if you were using the same rate springs. Yes, it’s definitely going to ride better due to less rate in the spring. I understand BC saying it would be to soft because they would have Valved the coilovers for a softer spring.

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  2 года назад

      I agree, and I would have loved to do that, but money and time were the big deciding factors there and I just couldn’t justify the extra expense of another set of springs that I wasn’t going to use just for another video.
      But hey, if I ever make it big time, who knows maybe I’ll just fiddle with my suspension setups all day and make money by making videos about it 😄

  • @MyFaux

    If you have adjustable coilovers, you don't need that spring compressor anymore. Just loosen the spring adjustment lock collar and release the preload. Then remove the top bolt.

      I'm just finishing the video. I agree on the lower spring rate on the rear. Most people are running 8kgf/mm for my car (370Z). But I ran the numbers, it's really supposed to be 5-6kgf/mm. Then fix body lean with antiroll bars. I'll be running 750lb/in(13.4kgf/mm) F and 275lb/in(4.92kgf/mm) R. The car has a nasty 0.65 motion ratio on the front. I was always wondering how people are running 18kgf/mm and still be fine. 😬

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  20 дней назад

      @@MyFaux The spring rates I chose are too soft. Very comfortable, but too soft. I plan to go to a 6k or 7k square setup when I get back to working on this car again. The handling is not controlled and the rear bottoms out at a reasonable ride height.

    Nice video! For some reason, there is a blinding amount of misinformation out there about coilover adjustment. My guess is that they were set up wrong in the first place with the stiffer spring and you were likely just slamming into the bump stops. There’s a lot to be said for setting bump travel correctly and then dealing with ride height adjustment. Either way, glad its better for you! Also, great explanation of the f:r roll stiffness. Would getting swift springs at the same rate or higher make any difference? The standard BC springs for my car are set to 6kg F and 4kg R and the swift springs both start at 5kg only difference is the rear is 1kg stiffer and i could achieve that with just placing a custom order and not paying extra.

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  6 месяцев назад

      My experience is that the swift springs feel softer to ride on than an equivalent stock BC spring, so it should not be any problem to bump them both up a bit. Do some research about your specific car and see what people have done.

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  2 года назад +1

      Usually you can get away with using just enough preload to keep the spring snug between the mounting perches, but there are instances like in the case of the rear of my car where I put softer springs in than came standard where I had to add more preload to prevent the rear shocks from bottoming out. I’d say look through some forums for people who have maybe done the same or similar setups on the same car you have and see what they’ve had to do, that should get you pretty close.

    10:28 ok there are 3 “nuts” on that bc damper core, two are holding up the spring, and one is at the bottom…. why do you not a) wind the third nut up and make it help hold up the spring or b) remove it and save unsprung weight ?

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  11 месяцев назад

      The three collars serve different purposes. The bottom collar locks to the lower mounting cup which rotates and serves as the ride height adjustment method. The upper two collars are for adjusting spring preload, and flexibility of installing longer/shorter springs.
      In terms of weight savings, those collars weigh probably a few ounces each. Pretty sure they’re aluminum. I’ll save a number of pounds here and there when I can but I’m also using this car in a class that is power to weight based, so I can’t make it too light.

  • @maxime_vhw

    What does ride height have to do with preload. These are two seperate settings

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  Год назад

      The preload does affect ride height to a certain extent, although it of course is not the way to do it. The problem here was the shock was bottoming out on the bump stop, so I added some preload which raised the car but stopped the bottoming out problem. Then I set the bottom perch for the ride height where I wanted it.

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  2 года назад +2

      I bought them from BC. They can tell you exactly which springs fit your setup. I will say even since I’ve posted that video, I’ve fiddled with the damper settings more and just getting the front to back balance right made another world of difference. For my car, setting them identical front and back was a little bouncy, but setting the rears slightly stiffer than the front finished it off. The ride control is perfect.
