I lift 6x a week and do Muay Thai 2x a week and it’s honestly not too bad in therms of recovery. Only problem is that lifting makes you slow and less smooth
hey can you help me i lift 5x times a week but also do muay thai the same amount of time cause rn im competing in local tournaments but i want to gain weight and ive troubles gaining weight due the cardio of muay thai, how do you combine this 2?
@@fbnpando I had times where I lifted 5x+ a week and did. Muay Thai about 3-5 times and honestly that’s just too much volume to recover from unless you take it very easy with your lifting or only do technique work during most Muay Thai sessions.
You need to sleep 9+h a day, eat to the point of almost puking every meal and you’ll probably still not recover from it. I’d say lower the lifting frequency to 4x a week and see how that feels. If that’s still too much (which it most likely is) I’d lower the volume even a bit more
Good To Hear Your Workout Routine And Its True about The Slowness and Smoothnes But I Still Think Combining Both Is A Great Bennefit For A Man
You Can Also If You Want To Keep The Intensity For Both Workouts High (Lifting and Muay Thai) Try 3x Times Lifting Weights and 3x Times Muay Thai With One Day As Recovery
@@fbnpando as hard as it may sound your not gaining weight because your not eating enough because your burning A LOT of calories lifting plus doing Muay thai, eat more it sucks but its the only thing yoi can do if you dont want to take away from either sport to conserve calories, you got this king 💪🔥🔱
I find that switching between them is best for me. One week, I'll train with weights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The next, I'll practice MMA on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
For a fighter, strength may not be quite as important as skill, but it certainly does help. Being able to overpower your opponent is another advantage you will want to have, especially if you're a grappler or a wrestler.
1. That is also a interesting approach to the whole Topic.
2. There you are right strength is not everything cut it could give you the advantage to win.
your opponent is training both weeks ..
Weight training is functional training. Literally all the top fighters have a weight training regimen. Full body is also the best for athletes in my experience.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and personal experience on this topic
Great breakdown 👍
I've officially been doing Muay Thai for little over 2 months now .
I had to figure out how to balance resistance training/bodybuilding style workouts with MT.
I found that my current 3 day split works well so far:
M,W,F gym
T,Thurs,Sat. MT at dojo.
Sunday active rest.
Full bod routine is my currnt program.
Where I hit equal parts push/pull/leg
This sounds great. That is how I would structure the training for somebody how is more advanced and doing martial arts and lifting for a longer period of time. Thanks for sharing.
I have been doing bodybuilding for 2+ years now I want to introduce myself to any martial arts to lower my body fat and learn some new skills. Plus I wanted to do something else instead of bodybuilding because I'm bored of it a little bit 😅.
Need your guide and suggestions please.
Hey, thank you for asking me to guide you. I would depending on how often you are lifting go 2x times to the gym. And 3x times into a martial arts session. This is currently my workout plan too. I lift full body twice a week. And do boxing 3x times a week. This is in my opinion the best workout for combining both. If you want to go the gym more often. Than switch it and go 3x times Lifting . On Day 1 Upper, Day 2 Lower and Day 3 Fullbody for training each muscle twice a week. And go boxing or (any other martial art) 2x times a week. If you go more often or less often training in a week than 5x times let me know. And I figure out a different plan. Thank you again for asking. I hope I could help you.
Nice video there, i am actually struggling at maitaining the two and your video really helped me, thanks.
I am grateful that I could help you
You my dude, instantly subscribed!!! Looking forward to more content!!!
Thank you I hope to see more comments from you.
im an amatuer boxer and train 5-6x a week run 2x outside of the gym and lift 4-5x it works good it just makes u kinda tired because of school
I understand what you mean this is a good workout routine but it can be time and energy consuming. Keep up the work.
Big muscles (fast twitch) do tire faster but they will adapt to have a higher slow twitch (longer endurance) ratio if you also train for endurance & it won't be a problem if you improve your CO2max. Also training for strength will increase power which will in turn increase speed (= force x acceleration / mass) so even if you do a lean bulk you won't get slower. Smaller muscles that have to also move around excess fat & weight will tire more easily & be slower. So strength training is actually necessary for martial artists (it's actually functional not just aesthetic as you seem to imply). Also I don't think an upper/lower (which is usually done twice a week) or push/pull/legs split works well for martial artists who train multiple times a week. If you do strength training (or calesthenics) on the same day as martial arts training you won't have enough time to recover unless you focus on isolating certain muscles you know won't be under strain in your martial arts session. Balancing weight lifting & martial arts is specific to each individuals goals and level of fitness so you can't really learn much from a general video by a random. It's taken me half a year to figure out a weekly training plan that works well for me: 5 hours martial arts training (doubling up on 2 days), 2 x 30 minute core sessions (off days), 2 x 30 minute dynamic & static stretching sessions (2 martial arts days), 1 x 30 minute reaction drilling session (1 martial art day), & 2 x 30 minute full body strength training sessions (first day high weight:low rep, next day low weight:high rep) (weekend).
There are some good points you made. First i must say that yes Strength Training is important for Martial Arts. But if you do Martial Arts and Bulk up you will loose on Stamina because your body has to move more weight. And so it will naturally stun your stamina capacity. Second I know that Balancing both Martial Art and Lifting is very much up to the individual. This Video is to give Ideas to People how they could manage to do both without having to sacrifice one. Thank you for the comment and your workout routine. So people can learn from your workouts.
Thanks for the vid (:
No Problem thanks for the comment
I haven’t found yet a best approach to lifting and doing martial arts simultaneously. I have been doing full body 3x a week but I didn’t plan specific days to train, it was mostly based around where it fit in my schedule, and although I really like flexibility, this would lead to a lot pf missed sessions. Right now I’m experimenting with keeping fixed days for martial arts and lifting, I’m keeping 3x a week full body but I’ve shortened the sessions because I notice that I’m having trouble staying in the gym longer than 1,5 hours, which sucks because I like to train every muscle group thoroughly, but right now my body can’t handle doing both full effort. Hopefully this planning will help me be more consistent with both endeavours
Thank you for commenting. Let me know if the video and the workout plan helped you.
Go for a minimalist exercise selection so you can keep your exercise rotation fresh with your best exercises. Push presses, front squats and sitff legged deadlifts are king. Handstand push ups build bulletproof wrists so you can do that for variation in shoulder work. Weighted step ups and bulgarian split squats help you build contralateral strength which helps you take blows easier. Here an alternative split: Anterior Chain/Posterior Chain 4x a Week.
Striking martial arts heavily favor anterior chain work, so if you are a striker start the week with that. This split allows for great use of all hip hinging patterns, which is also great for grappling.
Thank you for sharing your workout split. This is a really intersting workout split that can really good combine striking and grappling martial arts.
calisthenics and kettlebells would be the best choices for combat sports! Unless you do others such as wrestling and maybe jiu jitsu then lifting other weights like the use of a barbell would help definitely
Seems like a good take. I would even say Lifting can be with calisthenics and kettleballs the best choice for Martial Arts.
A good one.
Thank you
I've been training Muay Thai 2x a day 5 days a week with 1 Full Body strength and hypertrophy workout on Saturday. Monday Wednesday Friday is Muay thai +abs, Neck, Forearm work. Tuesday Thursday is full Body circuit training and bag work conditioning drills and sunday is Full body mobility and stretching/Active Recovery
Shadoxing with 3-6Ibs dumbells , supplements it with 10Ibs dumbell helps to hold the guard up & tone the whole body, push, pull, legs, is optimal. Include 3-4 sessions a week for military style burpee's, navy seals burpee's & 30down etc
This seems like a good workout
This exactly how I already train
I think it is one of the best ways to approach both.
I was doing a labor job full time, weightlifting 6 times a week, and jiu jitsu 5x a week, as long as you focus on stretching everyday recovery is fine, eat healthy as well and youll be fine.
What kind of stretches?
I box 7 days a week and lift 5 times a week ofc make sure you don't go hard every session but this is helping me so far. Priorotise sleep and food
Damn dude you're a machine!
Great vid💪
Should I invest in a membership at the gym or muay thai classes?Unfortunately,I am unable to afford both so i have to make a choice between paying for a membership at a gym where i can lift weights/swim anyday or a muay thai class which is 1x per week but costs more? My main goal is to get fit n lose fat I also want to learn the arts of 8 limbs.Any advice?
It depends on the person and the time you have. I did lifting while bjj plus work and I tired my body to a point where I almost passed out doing regular house stuff. :')
Yes there you have to watch out and not overtrain. Food and sleep are as equally important as training.
Just do main compound lift 2 times a week
Squat, deadlift, overhead press
Bench press should be skipped or treat it as acessory lift
Thank you for your recommendation
I traim 2 times of body weight exerscise witch pushups , body weight squats and indian style shoulder roation with mace , next 3 days i do weight training and one day of full intensity boxing . And this workout has brought wonders to my fitness not like those bodybuileders just doing bicep chest and something like that .
Well i dont hate them ........
I do karate and jiujitsu class and summer strength and conditioning and boxing when I’m at home
Many martail arts as I hear. As long as you have the time for it and are able to improve in every single one. This seems to be a good workout too.
i use to do morning 3 hrs weight training, noon 1 hr cardio, martial arts night 2hrs week days. 8 hr nightshift work
Thank you for sharing your workout routine. What is your workout routine now?
@@mind-mentor just doing compound weight lifting, weighted dips, pistol squats, 30 mins stationary biking while fasting, and cold showers. I dont do too much.
Good video man but the volume is so low
I Will Try To Set The Volume Higher Thanks For Telling Me
you have to train each muscle group 2 times a weak so your suggestion won't actually work. what i suggest is to train full body 2 times a day.
The program i provided will thanks to the martial art sessions still hit each muscle group in the best case 3 times a week. It would be 1x time through Lifting and 3x times through Martial Art. Yes you can not target a specific muscle in a martial arts session. But a Martial Art session is still a full body workout. Your point is still right if you want to maximize your Lifting. And I think doing 2x times full body can be right. But also fatiguing in combination with 3x martial arts session. Nevertheless I think starting with my plan and after getting more advanced. Trying to do 2x full body lifting sessions could be beneficial.
@@mind-mentor How about lifting weight 4 times a week and practicing box twice a week (push pull legs and arms for the gym split)
At the boxing gym we do pushups to failure each class. So would it be okay to do just a Pull-Leg split? It kinda seems like the boxing training/conditioning covers the Push side of things.
Interesting suggestions. I think this could be implemented but I think it would not be the most optimal. Because you body needs push lifting excercises if you want to implement lifting weights completly. If you are missing time for going 3 times to the gym. It would be ok to just do Pull-Leg as long as you go to the gym. But as said try impelement push too. Or go for a upper lower split that would be even better.
I lift 4 times and do boxing twice a week. Looking forward to lift 6, an extra session every boxing day. Sometimes I want to go to the gym twice in the same day.
Thank you for sharing your workout Plan. And I think we all know that feeling of wanting to go twice to the gym on the same day.
Id do weight training but for strength not hypertrophy, also calisthenics and overcoming isometrics
That seems to be a nice workout routine.
the gym sessions have to be fighting based not bodybuilding based .
Karate punches
All professional fighters lift weights functionally
That is true. Almost all fighters lift weights.
bros voice sounds so forced
If you want to keep out attention please talk a little faster
Thank you for the advice. Did it got better with my newest Videos. Thanks in advance for responding.
I lift about 3 or 4 times a weak and train muay thai twice a week, mma twice a week and bjj trice a week and it works pretty fine
This seems to be a good combination it is nice to hear of your Workout
is it basically impossible to bulk and gain muscle mass while boxing?
Absolutely not it will be hard and you will notice that if you do not run atleast once a week or bulk up to fast that your stamina will take a hit. But I would say bulking up while boxing and gaining muscle mass is possible. Just take enough sleep and eat nutritious food.
@@mind-mentor thanks a lot man.
No Problem. Thank you for asking. I hope I could help
the audio is so damn low
Hey thank you for the advice can you tell me if the audio is better in my newest videos. Thank you in advance for responding.
@@mind-mentor yes its much better thank you so much !! i sw the whole video !
@@kyokushin1289 Thank you very much for taking the time to watch a new video and tell me if the audio is better. That is really valuable for me and my progress as a RUclipsr. If you notice anything else positive or negative let me know.
Simple answer eat more calorie foods are the best forms to aid recovery mate 😂
Simple and true. There are things like going on a walk, stretching and light excercise you can do. That will help too.
