Another great video, Mickey. You'd have to go back to July 13th to find the last week that any Blue Beetle keys were in the trending 20, but almost every week prior for several months Infinite Crisis #5 and DC's Blue Beetle #1 (1986) were in the top 20. The pre-costume Jamie Reyes appearances in Infinite Crisis #3&4 were also trending a lot over the last few months and I recall O.M.A.C. keys also making it onto the Top 10 list several times in the last few weeks. Key Collector's html has the current Top Ten populating all the previous links, so I can't provide the actual dates. To your point, I think rank and file collectors bought these keys a long time ago and may be writing to see if James Gunn verifies (post-opening weekend) that Blue Beetle is here to stay, so to speak. When all the box office receipts are tallied on Monday morning and Blue Beetle opens at #1, displacing Barbie, the WB publicity machine will finally kick into action to promote it. It's a really good movie and word of mouth should help. It remains to be seen if Gran Turismo will unseat it next week (opens Aug. 25), and then all eyes will be on how Kraven performs when it opens on Aug. 30th. The Jim Lee variant cover of Infinite Crisis #5 is still a low-priced book that seems like a wise longterm investment: First appearance in costume, prominently featured on the cover -as drawn by a fan favorite artist. There are a lot of raw copies out there, but 9.6 and higher are not exactly plentiful, though you can get a 9.6 for less than $150 and a 9.8 for $250. As a few others have noted in these comments, whether or not the movie is a theatrical hit, this is going to be big on streaming. If they make a decent Blue Beetle videogame on par with the Miles Morales game, Jamie Reyes is going to the moon. Hopefully the publicity does the film (and the character) justice and that leads people back to the Sturges/Albuquerque run, which was a really good comic series.
I think Blue Beetle is gonna be like Spider-man: Into The Spider verse where it does decent in the theaters but it will blow up when it comes to streaming. The movie is pretty good. I enjoyed the family centered theme.
I saw blue beetle last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. There were times were it felt like a made for tv movie rather than a true blockbuster super hero film, but the movie did have a lot of heart and some fun humor and cool action. If people are burned out going to the movie theater then I think this movie could still do well on streaming since it’s actually pretty good.
The movie theater price has a lot to do with it for me. My local theater costs $15 a ticket for a matinee. By the time my wife and I get a drink and popcorn we are $60 into it, and that is with the theater's reward perks.
Saw Blue Beetle and it was a pretty great film! Sure, it has glimpses of Iron man and Spider-man in it but it is a really unique film because the majority of the characters, 90% are Latinos. My best friend for 27 years is a Mexican American so he and his family was very happy with it. I also have pre ordered Blue Beetle number 1 for September.
The only people who cry "Fatigue!" are those who have one-dimensional taste in movies. There is FAR too much media in FAR too many genres to be "fatigued". Also, heaven forbid one have hobbies/passions that don't revolve around movies. lol.
Maybe if DC started making movies that did not totally suck donkey kong then maybe, just maybe, I might go to a theatre to see it. At least when it’s streaming, I can fold laundry or polish the silver, or watch the paint on the walls dry. Ho hum.
Blue Beetle is not a well-known character that is being released into a market that is tired of superhero movies. There is a superhero movie being released every month. The only movie I expect I will see in the theater is The Marvels.
I really want to see blue beetle. However, I haven't been to the theater since before covid. I know I'm not alone when I say that I just prefer to watch the movies at home over the theater, these days. I think if DC and Marvel want to see bigger box office numbers they need to do a streaming and box office release simultaneously.
I just saw the movie with my 13yo daughter and we enjoy the movie a lot!!!! Its actually good and funny, i would say 7 out of 10, as i say to everyone since i saw the movie if you enjoyed Casshern or Guyver or even the best chapters of the Power Rangers you are gonna like this movie😂
I was thinking about going to the premiere, but decided to watch football instead. Went to check how many tickets were sold, and only like 8 people had bought tickets a half an hour before it was supposed to start. Super sad for dc
Great point. I recently read something is killing the children just to try and discover a new story with substance. I also released my debut novel CURSE OF THE ELIXIR to try and give people an alternative to the garbage being served in cinemas.
I have his first appearance and saw the trailer, but I’m not interested. These movie producers must think all superheroes are equal, but c and d list characters don’t have box office power.
I'll be seeing Blue Beetle when it comes to streaming but the only Gunn announcement I'm really looking forward to is Swamp Thing. I can't wait for that.
@steppingrazor9685 It has very low Census, plus Wrightson art. Also, look into Alan Moore first Swamp Thing issue and Swamp Thing #37 first Constantine.
At my LCS, the owner told me that he cannot even give away new Fantastic Four comics. DC comics don't do much better. Not a good sign for an FF movie. I guess it is like what comes first - the chicken or the egg. Does good comics drive the interests in the movies, or does good movies drive the interest in the comics? Right now, the quality of either is in doubt. It would be ironic that the MCU, that drove the interest in comic books to record highs for the last 10 plus years, also blew the hobby up when the movies ran out of juice.
Maybe we have finally reached the point where these TV shows and Movies have little effect on comic values. I would rather have things within the comics spark interest in a character.
Couldn’t get through the video, there was some bad audio static or some kind of static or audio popping sound going on. I thought it was my device at first, but no other RUclips videos had that noise.
Batman is a fascist quote was a stupid move. The damage control afterward was lame. I don’t think it is as much super hero fatigue as it is comic lovers are tired of getting💩on by the writers, directors and actors in these movies. We shouldn’t be handing our hard earned money over to a bunch of blowhards that think we’re stupid. They don’t respect the history, characters, or the collectors of comics. They don’t even read the source material. Secret Invasion case in point. That dumpster fire was nothing like the story line we cared about. When they lost the comic lovers and collectors, they lost the most enthusiastic word of mouth advertising that they could have hoped for.
Nothing has been as epic as the buildup to Endgame. For DC I was personally looking forward to a Darkseid invasion from the end of JL Snyder cut. Marvel seems to be all over the place...no real direction.
Let me start by saying I will see question is will I wait for two weeks for it to come out on Max oh, I pay up to go see it in the theater. I think the reason many people are holding off is that videos come out so quickly after a movie is in theater that there’s no reason to run to see it. The only question in my mind is with the SAG strike going on. Will they keep it in the theater a bit longer knowing this little coming out for many months. And those of us who love comics we’re not motivated by what comes out in the theater. What are video. We’re just happy to get classic books highlighting the characters that we love.
Hey Swag! First I'll start by saying love your content!! Definitely some of the Best out there!!! 🔥Now as to superhero movies doing poorly. Well the answer is Very Very Very Easy. Big characters will get big results. Period. Smaller less known characters get small results. Sometimes smaller characters will pull off surprise gains. But usually needs the first part to be successful. I'm sure X-men will be huge!!! FF as well. But only if done well. Then with that combo comes success. Big character + good story= 💰
I dont think comic movie fatigue is the problem. Its the studios fault. Blue beetle is a "C" level hero. Instead of giving him a movie first, he should have guest premiered in a Superman or batman movie 1st. Then put out his solo movie. For example, we saw the response spider punk got in the spiderverse movie. If they dropped a spider punk movie next year, people would probably go bananas. Studios also need to put their best effort in every movie. For example SONY, spider man and spiderverse were great. Venom and morbius, not so much. They need to stop seperating spiderman from the other characters; stop changing their origin story.
Sell the comic books and pay the mortgage! Doesn't your nephew (a.k.a: Swagglehaus) have comics? Yes dear. We are going to visit him this weekend. Bring a backpack, I think he has a Darkhawk 1.
I despise movie hype comic book sales. Blue Beetle is a golden age character that hopefully people will watch on screen, and find they like it. Damn it may become someone’s favorite. What I hope happens is kids watch it. Some of these children will want to collect Blue Beetle comics, toys, and whatnot. When I see grown people buy comics because a movie(movie they have not seen yet) comes out, I want to burn there nips off!
Blue Beetle is Meh at best. In the movie arena means that it is a bomb. I do not believe there is super-hero fatigue. This movie and others like it are not just great or good movies. Another movie that I can wait and get on streaming when I have nothing else to do.
I had the choice of seeing this or Oppenheimer today....decided on Oppenheimer. Blue Beetle looks like the typical boring origin story where the hero fights an evil version of himself zzzz
From fans who want to watch the genre they claim to love burn, to casual moviegoers who are just....exhausted from being fed a steady diet of CBM for years on-end (and a bunch of mediocre TV content), to the apathy towards this movie being partially due to the recent weak releases, and the impending DC reset, there's a lot of reasons why Blue Beetle is getting the shit end of the stick. But I'd rather be Blue Beetle than Aquaman 2!
I didn't like the trailer but really liked the movie. Was surprised. I think you should watch these movies being a RUclipsr. That way you can give a better opinion. Just get a monthly pass. I have one with Regal. It's $18 unlimited movies any time. Have to remember kids went to school this month. Haslab and Hasbro have a bunch of toys for preorder. Lorcana came out today. That was insane. Pokemon 151 English version is about to come out. Money might be tight for some comics.
Never heard of Blue Beetle until the movie was announced, and this whole "woke Hollywood" narrative has left distrust in mainstream entrainment. I'll probably stream it and watch it at 2x speed like I do to your videos 😅
I’d like to see it but Blue Beetle is not a big character in the comic world, bottom line, I won’t find time to see it and I have zero interest in buying the first appearance.
This video gave me a very negative vibe. I have unsubscribed for now. Lunch Money Comics is still the best comic RUclipsr in my opinion because he always puts out a empathic and positive vibes in his videos.
Another great video, Mickey.

Bluebeetle is great. Best DC movie in years.

That sounds like a pretty honest review, thanks!

I just watched and I loved it! I took my whole family! We finally have a Mexican Dc super hero!
Getting a little static on your audio for some reason 🤔
Yeah sorry about that, I mention in the description. Think loose wire when I recorded but clears up later.

I remember when the first Miles movie came out and uf4 didn’t do much until the ps game announcement, it went nuclear
I don’t care what anyone says I love blue beetle he will always be one of my favorites haha

I am looking forward to watching blue beetle. And please do a video on the social metrics
I watched it tonight and I really enjoyed it one of DC best visuals lately
The blue beetle costume character was right on point and comparable to the comic books. No one can deny that.
Not a surprise, DC doesn't know what its doing with their movies.
My vote for you do to a deeper dive on social metrics!
Maybe if DC started making movies that did not totally suck donkey kong then maybe, just maybe, I might go to a theatre to see it. At least when it’s streaming, I can fold laundry or polish the silver, or watch the paint on the walls dry. Ho hum.
Blue Beetle might do a Billion at the Box Office. It's the international thing. America is only some of its market.
I doubt it will do anything near that. Maybe its a good film, maybe it isnt, but nobody cares about the character. 🤷🏼♂️
I think it could make $300m in South America alone, but it'll really need to score in the Asian market to even break $500m.
Blue Beetle is not a well-known character that is being released into a market that is tired of superhero movies. There is a superhero movie being released every month. The only movie I expect I will see in the theater is The Marvels.
Thanks for the video Swagg. Interesting to see the “social” metrics and how it influences the market.

Crazy detail that nothing is on that Trending 20 related to this flick.....great breakdown as always Swag!
The only thing can save future superhero movies for me, is to make them for adults…mature themes. Proper hard core violence is cool! 😅😅
Waiting for Sanity the motion picture…
My friend says he’s going to go watch it this weekend.
Am I the only one who is hearing crackles and pops in this video?
Maybe the defect is that Blue Beetle should have been on the Trending 20

I'll be seeing Blue Beetle when it comes to streaming but the only Gunn announcement I'm really looking forward to is Swamp Thing. I can't wait for that.
