The world needs equality and leadership by science heads not over paid actors and movies that disappear after 2 weeks, and the executive board begins trawling the general publics phyci for what alies them. So sorry to spoil the mood 😂
I’m hopeful this is gonna remind people how great Superman actually is. Taking him and his character traits back to their roots is needed. And idk, maybe you’re being a little too harsh on the Krypto reveal? But it did seem to be an unconventional choice
I do not see the Krypto moment as a dog joke undercutting the stakes. To me, DC is at its finest and most distinct when it leans into hope, family and quirky silver age sci-fi. I really hoped Gunn may bring that. This moment shows he will. Krypto is the first being from Krypton that made Kal-El not the lone survivor. Mark Waid has cited Krypto as his favorite part of DC mythos for that reason. He doesn’t just show as a joke, he comes to save him because, sometimes, that is all Kal-El has.
If you grew up watching the Christopher Reeves Superman movies, this trailer would give you the chills. I totally loved it, it was epic. I felt like I was a kid again!
Exactly!!! I had chills when I first saw this. I was transported back to when I saw Reeves on the big screen. Remember finding a red blanket to wrap around and pretending to fly in the living room!
Excellent teaser trailer. No dialog, just the theme which evokes an emotional response. It shows Superman going from the lowest of the low to flying up into the sky. This is a very effective teaser.
I'm happy krypto is finally making an appearance on the big screen and more DC characters other than the ones we have been getting for decades. I welcome this new universe
I FRIGGIN loved the trailer. I didn’t get any kiddy funny Deadpool vibe from it. I loved that it has Krypto, he may steal the show. If I’m not mistaken one of the biggest complaints about Superman is that it’s hard for the average viewer to relate to an omnipotent alien. Showing him knocked down and bleeding in the trailer makes him more relatable. I would not have said it TV level quality, I would’ve instead says that it has a nostalgic/retro feel to it. Hats off to James Gunn. The trailer makes me super excited for the movie.
I like it a lot. I like the choice to get back to the primary colors of Superman. His first words in this are powerful, he says “take me home”. Where is his home, he is an alien in an imperfect world. I think this Superman will work.
Love the trailer! I predict Krypto books will go to the moon, but the main thing is - James Gunn is ALWAYS a good time at the movies. From his early days at Troma, to the incredibly watchable Slither, to 3 great Guardians of the Galaxy films, the only Suicide Squad flick with loads of re-watch value, to the Peacemaker - he can do comedy, but also pathos; he creates clearly defined characters; he has a genuine affection and understanding of the source material! In Gunn we trust.
5:09 Some think it's Kelex, but I think it's the robot from Tales of the Fortress of Solitude: The Robot that Barked. If you look at the illustration the robots almost look identical to me. "Better" is subjective. I don't think Krypto was a joke. I was emotionally pulled in. I have my father-in-law's original copy of Adventure Comics #210. Also growing up with Reeves this has given me all the feels.
The dog is cool Sawg. Nobody is worried about the dog. Actually, the best part of the dog is that he's different. After 4 reboots, perhaps this one has more uniqueness
I disagree with you strongly on this. Superman IS bright. Whatever the Snyderverse version was, was only a pale imitation. This is coming from an Anti-Gunner, but I have hope for it.
I didn't find Krypto's Appearance in the scene humorous, he owned a dog you would understand. That's actually a pretty typical reaction for most dogs. If you’ve never owned one, you might not realize how they behave in different situations. Dogs don’t really differentiate between serious and light-hearted moments; they just get excited! Watching Krypto ploughing through the snow is exactly how I imagine any dog would act in that scenario.
Interesting how my take was different overall. Having been a big Superman fan for a long time and not a DC fan, this looked really fun and hopeful to watch! The color scheme seems like a nod at going back to the roots
It's pretty epic, Swag. Superman is the crown jewel of the superhero world and we need him back on the screen, treated properly. To my eye, it looks like Gunn has nailed it and then some. Can you imagine the immense pressure this film is under to not only be good - but be GREAT, and prop up a whole cinematic universe that has previously been treated like dirt by its own creators?
I love bright light opening scenes! I think that guy with the ring was Guy Gardner. It sure looks like him, the same haircut ! The robot was probably the Metalo. But why was our Superman lip - bleeding after hitting the snow? The only other time I can recall seeing Superman bleed was when he fought with Doomsday.
I can see some of your criticisms of the trailer. Glad to hear that you agree we need a hopeful Superman now more than ever. On your Krypto critique though… I definitely didn’t take that bit as a joke but I understand how it can be hard for some to buy into an animal character in a serious situation. And not to give him too much credit, but after GotG I fully trust Gunn with making us care about animal characters in serious situations.
It’s wild that people think adding color to a film makes it look low budget when you have the Snyderverse grimdark slow-motion CGI that makes every character move and look like Gumby.
It’s definitely not a Dark Knight level trailer but neither was Batman Begins. Movie has to be fun with a few clever action/plot touches that get people talking. People want another good Supes movie and the character deserves it! Like the sci-fi approach and that were just jumping right into the DC world. And I’ll take TV color over the Marvel blah color grading.
This movie looks incredible. Bringing Krypto into the mix is GENIUS. The color and cinematography is gorgeous. It is the little things, like Clark's father. No Kevin Costner leading man movie star here. This is a real bloke. Clark Kent looks like a real nerd, not like Superman with glasses. The Superman theme on electric guitar, it brings chills to the spine. The optimism. The hope. The lack of cynicism and post-modern irony. I love this direction.
Seeing Krypto was cool but I expected Krypto to look more like a Labrador. Anyways, I have a wait and see attitude about THIS Superman movie. As far as I’m concerned, Man of Steel is the BEST Superman movie I’ve ever seen. Snyder did an awesome job with the origin story and the fact that there was an actual physical threat to Superman was great. If I’m alone in my opinion that’s cool. And before anyone try’s to insert their opinion about Superman 78 which I saw in theaters when I was a child just know that even as a child I thought the movie was lame. I was around six years old and I thought it was stupid that he flew in the opposite direction of the earth’s rotation to reverse time in order to save Lois Lane’s life. I always hear people claim, “…the first Superman movie was so great. It’s a classic.” Yet no one brings up this absolutely absurd premise of reversing time. Besides Superman flying which like other kids at the time I thought was cool, it’s a pretty boring movie. I hope this is a very good Superman movie. What was the last successful DC movie? Aquaman 1? Wonder Woman 1? I’m not sure but I feel like Batman vs. Superman and Justice League were profitable but, critics and many fans seemed to pan it. I’ll have to look it up. But DC is finding success with the new Absolute line but DC really could use some movie wins. It would be great for all of us.
Superman is such a magical hero. This trailer and seeing Krypto gave me hope. Story overpowers mindless action. Little worried about so many superhero characters though. I hope it doesn’t take away from the Superman magic.
It's funny that you think studios will not use creative accounting to do whatever they need to do to continue. What other properties do you think WB is going to use to create films???
Also, I think part of reason the newer DC films failed was because people knew they weren’t going to matter once the new universe starts. At least that was a contributing factor to me not seeing them
Krypto! Great to see. All American boy & his dog. It's serious. No way does this feel "TV". Why LuthorCorp and not LexCorp? Guy Gardner as GL. Interesting. Hawkgirl! Makes me want to go back to the movies - since COVID. Overall grade rating...A
Idk, Swag, I think you might be being a little hard on this trailer. I didn't see the Krypto moment as humor, but as touching. It look amazing!!!! It has the DC feel, it should be bright and hopeful. Krypto FTW! I do get the feeling that is a but weird to see him hurt right at the beginning.
Superman trailer was every bit as good as the Black Adam trailer. The real problem with Supes is that the emblematic “truth, justice and the American way” is no longer relevant for contemporary American culture. We are now a nation largely defined by collective venality. Our profound self interest clashes with Superman’s unwavering moral compass. If James Gunn can capture that tension, and speak to it meaningfully, there is a slender chance that this movie might be a success. If it just another super hero movie with all the usual tropes and cliches without addressing the interesting elements of what it actually means to be good then the DCU will have gained no ground. Might as well watch Black Adam again.
A shame Superman often seems like a 'loser' these days (often also lacking in confidence, competence and maturity compared to the early decades). But this could still be a good movie. Frankly, I think Krypto has the most chance (by far) of making a big splash with the audience and even a shot at sparking a merchandising boom. Perhaps 1958's Jimmy Olsen #29 is the one to get now (first Superman and Krypto). Or possibly 1959's Superman #130 (1st Krypto in the Superman title...first Superman/Krypto meeting in what DC seems to consider the 'Silver Age' Superman continuity (the way the story is written makes it seem like they haven't met in years).
You can really tell that James Gunn is too in love with himself, and his filmography just doesn’t justify it. He pulled a great trick with the first guardians movie, the second guardians was another liberal I-hate-my-dad movie, and guardians three was very heartfelt. Suicide squad was fun, but also a forgettable Guardians retread with an R rating. His goofy aesthetic for guardians of the galaxy is not going to play well with Superman. The new 52 suit is awful. The Superman spit curl is supposed to look natural, and instead it’s got an entirely different texture than the rest of his hair, making him look like Shirley Temple. This actor in general looks a little too soft for the role; he doesn’t need to grimace all the time like Henry Cavill (Snyder also misunderstood the character), but he looks like he has pretty soft hands for someone who grew up on the farm. If James Gunn had good instincts, he wouldn’t mess with one of the most classic designs of all time - the red and blue Superman outfit. BUT he’s not interested in doing it right, he’s interested in doing it. “the James Gunn way“.
This trailer was epic honestly. Gave me the feels. The world needs Superman right now, and I felt hopeful. It was great
The world needs equality and leadership by science heads not over paid actors and movies that disappear after 2 weeks, and the executive board begins trawling the general publics phyci for what alies them. Man, Swagg. This video makes it PAINFULLY obvious you do not read DC.
Not to gate-keep, but the fact that you don't know Guy Gardner on sight or know who Eve Tesmacher is kinda kills me inside.
👍upvote
Just forgot his name in the moment 🤷♂. Happens to me sometimes.
It’s because DC is less important. Cool, just less important.
I’m hopeful this is gonna remind people how great Superman actually is. Taking him and his character traits back to their roots is needed. And idk, maybe you’re being a little too harsh on the Krypto reveal? But it did seem to be an unconventional choice

Those “Cat People” just don’t get it.
I am shocked that yo had this type of response. And that you did not know Guy Garder???!!!
They had me at Krypto.
❤❤❤Krypto!!!
Excellent teaser trailer. No dialog, just the theme which evokes an emotional response. It shows Superman going from the lowest of the low to flying up into the sky. This is a very effective teaser.
Respectfully, your Marvel bias is on full display my friend.
I almost cried when his dog showed up to help him. You and I had VERY different responses to this trailer.
Glad you liked it 🐕
Agreed. I didn't find the Crypto clip "humorous" at all.
I agree this looks like the best Superman movie ever and all I've seen is a few seconds. but seeing Krypto, oh my God. I can't wait.
I burst out laughing when I saw that dust cloud was from a mutt. I genuinely thought it was a spoof. I assume you are a dog lover?
Same here. Even the mightiest hero needs his dog!!
I would watch it just for the dog lol!

This is why the world needs Superman.

💯 not humor. Obviously, Swag is a cat person.
The Costume Looks Glorious ...looks Golden age , Classic.
Supergirl was in the trailer and so was Jimmy she was on a TV and Jimmy was sitting in the office
Hey Swagg, great stuff as always, but… if Superman is the GOAT why is your wall not showing any supe books?😂

Yup. That’s what he said. I like Swag but he really missed the spot with the review. Must be artistic bias.
I like it a lot. I like the choice to get back to the primary colors of Superman. His first words in this are powerful, he says “take me home”. Where is his home, he is an alien in an imperfect world. I think this Superman will work.

The remix of the Superman theme was sweet and gave me chills.
I also like the idea that he is asking his dog for help in a corrupt and unstable world due to the machinations of a maniacal billionaire scientist.
Krypto is amazing
Finally something comic accurate and krypto is a massive character in the comics who needs to be shown how strong he is
I disagree with you strongly on this. Superman IS bright. Whatever the Snyderverse version was, was only a pale imitation. This is coming from an Anti-Gunner, but I have hope for it.
Last comment, great choice of bringing the classic music back remastered. Corensuet also has the right look.

Very hopeful for the DCU's future. Like yourself, I'm watching the movie at theater regardless of trailers or box office success. 😊
I loved this Superman trailer. This looks much better than the Disney Marvel crap we have gotten lately.
It IS low budget, remember DC is running on a shoe string budget. They couldn’t afford Henry Cavil and Dwane Johnson.
