    I looked at a guys collection of 8k comics. He was the same, didn't care for comics but had been buying up comics for years maybe decades with the intent to cash in when he retired. I went through every comic he had hoping to find something to justify his $3k price. There wasn't a single book worth anything. I realized he was just buying other people's trash comics for years. 8k comics, not one even worth $10. If felt really bad for him. He was super nice too. I couldn't bring myself to tell him it was worthless. I just told him that they weren't the kind of comics I was interested in.

      You were nice because you didn't want to hurt his feelings or offend him. You should watch the show Pawn Stars. People walk in there asking for thousands for items. Rick and his team always give it to them straight w/o being offensive. Some sellers walk away while others accept the offers.

      I always tell people the truth. I soften the blow as much as possible but I will tell them that the comics they have in the condtion they have are not worth very much. By saying "something I dont need. Or something I am not interested in." while you are being nice. I wouldn't want the individual to then try and sell it to somebody else in thinking, oh, maybe somebody else might want them. Saves me time, saves them time. And at least now they know.

I had Incredible Hulk 181 Giant size X-Men 1 and they offered me $100 a piece. I made over $48,000 piecing off my collection

    In the past 5 years or so, i've bought/sold comics in just about every way possible. The only realistic way to make money is to buy from someone wanting to sell their collection. Me and a friend turned bought a collection last year. We turned minor key She-Hulk and TMNT books that we bought for 10 cents each (total quantity of books divided by total payout to seller) into CGC 9.8's that sold for over $200. Your social media presence provides you with a fantastic opportunity! Thanks for the videos!!

  • @MrPelletty
    @MrPelletty 10 месяцев назад +1

    Both buyers and sellers need to be prepared to understand the current resale value of the collection as a whole. Getting around 65 percent of the value is possible but not without some effort and time. If you are buying the collection you are going to have to spend some time and add up conservatively what you will sell the books for after costs. As a Seller you need to compile a list with that same information and allow the buyer to crosscheck for themselves. Ultimately when you do nothing and just show up you are not going to get much more than 25 cents a book. If you are looking to sell your collection off and have this much you need to either sacrifice your time or money. This is why as a collector, it is of the most importance to be organized and not purchase what you are not interested in. The worst happenstance is dealing with the people who want easy money offering you less than $1 a book when you have a great collection. Its always better to remove anything over $50 and sell it separately and sell the collection as close to $1 a book as you can.

    That many low grade non keys would take forever to sell, not to mention the space they would take up. Many would probably never sell. I'd consider 50 pack bundles for $25 to people who just wanted reader copies of any books. $5000 was a very generous offer. I was honestly feeling $1500 would be fair. In my opinion, you dodged a bullet, Bry.

  • @TravisLaurenceNaught
    @TravisLaurenceNaught Год назад

    Respect, Bry. My walk price would probably have been a little higher than yours, but I'm 14 hours away and I already have 40 long boxes of unresearched stuff to sort through this winter LOL. I totally agree with you on the "wish" price from the buyers perspective. When a seller sets the price and it meets that wish price, I'm always the first to say, "If I make a bunch of money, I am happy to give some back." Sometimes the sellers thanked me and I have given them money later. Sometimes the sellers say, "I don't want to know. Good luck."

    The absolute most important thing when buying large quantities of items is the time thing. What could i be doing with this time if i didn't allocate to selling a huge collection of items slowly. Zero in on the best stuff first and let the marginal time consuming lower profit items fall by the way side to someone else that is okay doing it like this. You will climb the ladder faster like this.

    It would take months to properly catalog each book and record estimated values and that's before even deciding what to do with them and actioning that decision. I think overall it would have been harder to pass if the condition was generally NM or better. Makes it much easier when they appear to be mostly reader copies.

      They're worth something, at least a dollar plus each. Don't try to sell to comic book shops. They will always tell you that your books aren't worth much. Yet they'll turn around and sell them for $2 plus each to their customers. I thought they said they're "worthless" or 50 cents 😅😅😅. They're like the car dealerships, they will always offer you less than what your car is worth. Because they're running a business and must make a profit in order to stay afloat. They have yo pay their employees, bills, and turn a profit at the end of the day. I would try to sell them on eBay and other apps. There are a few out there today, even on Instagram. Good luck to you!

    just about any comic book WILL sell between 50 cents and 10 dollars. yes be careful not to buy only junk. but a GREAT majority you can sell at any given moment for a dollar or more. 15000 comics will net you more than 15000 in the long run. I started selling them 3 years ago when my father in law gave me his collection. ( 6 long boxes ive made over 20k from) and just like you said he took them everywhere trying to get a decent price for them and was only offered $100 per long box. do not sell them to resellers they are literally robbing you. and laughing in your face when you expect even half of the value.

    I live check to check and I don’t have any major keys so it’s hard and when I find good books on Facebook marketplace they are asking slab prices for raw prices and they argue with me about their price. How do I get big keys for cheap. I’m trying to get a better living condition as well and I’m trying to open a LCS as there are none here where I live

    He paid $3,000 you offered $5,000? Yeah, I would have take the $2,000 in profit and ran....He doesn't have the platform or resources to sell all those books lol

    I have been there before a few times I have found boxes of comics for sell and nothing worth the value was there and that is why I only buy keys, low print runs and rare variants cause those will always hold there value. I did get 2 NM copies of Batman Adventures #12 for $2.00 each and some other minor keys a few months ago but finding good comics these days are hard.

      @@BrysComics Bry's Comics,I am looking at getting a few of my grail books but which one should go for first,AMS#129TMNT#1, Detective Comics#164,Hulk#181,X-Men#1 or Cerebus #1? They are all high dollar books and they will all be low grades cause those books in NM cost $1,000's.

    Based on 15,000 comics. I could see offering him a .05 cents more per comic than your original price. It bumps your offer up 750.00 to 5750.00. The other option is you bring in a buddy/partner to invest a 1000.00 or more and work out the details on what he gets for that grand that makes sense to both of you.
