I definitely took advantage of CBCS's free signature verification special promotion this month. It was great. Cracked many green labels and saved hundreds of dollars vs CGC. The comic book grading should be rebranded as Beckett or even a different name... have a better label and UV protection on the cases.
@@dabbadoo2226 yep but not that much in order to tell me i should spend $76 to have a sig graded, vs $46. I'm not sending in huge comics, just getting some sigs verified instead of green label. These are worth a couple hundred each nothing crazy, so the difference between a CGC and CBCS sale is nothing.
@@dabbadoo2226 possibly not after this...what if cbcs does change to beckett, what if comics in their slabs become more expensive because cbcs slabs become rare itself?

Well if u like ur newton rings, banana’s, 9.8 with spine ticks, longer turnarounds and switched out books…well buddy cgc is ur type of comic con grader. Quality over quantity is always a good practice. Also those poor employees who got laid-off at cgc, tough times still ahead.
Can you imagine a black Beckett label on a 10 and a gold on 9.9? The aesthetics on that would be sooooooo hype and would boost sales both on the secondary market and within the now "CBCS" because it would look so awesome. A Beckett black label ultimate Spider-Man #1..... Wow.
@paytonardoin688 Their case are miles better than the Sarasota Shit Show's cases...you know, the cases that actually damage books instead of doing what they're supposed to which is protect books. But CBCS is also miles better than the Sarasota Shit Show in grading as well....far, far more consistent and accurate and the fallacy of the Sarasota Shit Show books selling for more is just that, a fallacy. For every example of their book selling for more there is an example of CBCS books selling for more. Don't fall for the false narrative being peddled.
Like you said, the secondary market is the main factor. If anyone can get their slab values up to that of CGC, only then will there be a competive market. PSA is going to have some growing pains also. They're going to need get into the market and get compared to CGC.
The re-slab a CGC banana book for free is truly a missed opportunity. Heck, they could have created a custom label with a banana on it, and charged a regular re-holder fee and likely would have generated alot of submissions.
Good! Now ditch the CBCS moniker, which has terrible brand awareness, and rebrand as Beckett Comics. Get a deal done with DC for labels and then you have a bonafide competitor.
Not only is CBCS in the Number 2 Slot compared to CGC, CBCS is a very DISTANT second place. My guess is CH sees an opportunity to bite into market share just as PSA sees an opportunity.
CBCS is the far superior grading company to CGC. Name a CBCS scandal that anyone cares about it. CBCS does a great job of grading comics not adding hype. CGC is a national embarrassment. That being said I'm in total agreement with you that I would change the name to Beckett. Beckett is a household name worldwide. I really don't see PSA taking off. Real Comic Book Collectors are not going to rush to a card grading company.
Agreed with all of the above, thank you. Except that Beckett is not my cup of tea: I suspect that CBCS isn't more aggressive and innovative because Beckett does not allow them to be. I'm a no on the name change to Beckett but open to another name (I'd also love for them to be independent again). And you're right, every time I sense eyerolling toward CBCS, I never hear evidence. I only hear allusions to historical lost books and previously poor customers service: no current problem is mentioned. CGC is analogous to being in an abusive relationship. No matter how they behave, people can't seem to stop going back.
Sorry but until CBCS slabs sell consistently at higher prices than CGC, there is no way that one can claim it is far superior. It is the current comic buying market that has spoken - it clearly favors CGC.

I think the video would have been more interesting if you would have talked about the fact that Steph Curry has announced limited-edition Player Exclusive bourbon. As to CBCS, who cares?!
Southern Hobby and Dragon Shield were already owned by Beckett. Beckett was already owned by an investment group, they are just changing names and creating a new company with new leadership. Its semi shady, but its normal business practice.
Expect CBCS to falter. Standard procedure is for new company owners to come in and do company wide cost cutting. Replace everyone that knows anything with inexperienced, know-nothing cronies.
Because a “holding company” in charge is such a great thing, look at the ghoulish CGC buyout a few years back - that was such a great thing for … umm … ok for stockholders.
I would not assume PSA to be an automatic #2 in comic grading when they come online. I like CBCS more than PSA for comics. Their new labels and case look way better too. This video feels like a lot of fear mongering, I’m sorry. Isn’t CGC the one doing massive layoffs?
CBCS shouldn’t exist as a brand. When they were acquired by Beckett, the Beckett brand was strong. It’s insane that they weren’t rebranded Beckett Comic Grading or something like that. They still should be. The CBCS brand has zero value

There are plenty of collectors getting their books graded. That isn't going to change. PGX is still in business along with a few others. Everyone of them carved out a piece of pie for themselves.
Superior product doesn’t mean anything in business if you can’t sell it. Go to a con. Look at the lines CGC has at their booth. Then go look at CBCS’, it’s like a bunch of fat girls at the school dance. I think I saw a tumbleweed glide by their booth at SDCC
CBCS is such a bland company. They had so many opportunities to step up their game, especially after so many CGC missteps. And, they never took advantage. They worked on a redesign for their label for years and it turned out as boring as the old label. They just don't put enough effort forward. They're like the generic version of a name brand.
Everything about them is existing as a CGC knockoff. Same color scheme same grading scale. They have no differentiation from the company they wanted to usurp. They have been ass backwards since day one. I get it Borock created all of these things while at CGC. But that’s irrelevant, he’s a great comic grader but he was always a terrible businessman.
