I missed the livestream, but wanted to cast my vote for a session on where to take the next steps to finish the book. Thanks for all the videos Kate! They're a huge help!
Hi, I've just watched this and finishing and fleshing out an existing novel is the reason I signed up. Is there a date locked in for the sequel to this video please as eagerly looking forward to it?
I'm only at 7:54 regarding questions. YES! I wish I had caught this stream. I have a partial novel, but I have already done a very thorough Codex and had copy pasted my chapters and scenes into NC thinking I could then have it start helping me finish. I didn't import my partial novel your way but am planning to try. The way I've done it it's not recognizing my prose at all. So this leaves me unable to have it use what I've written as a basis, nor can I figure out how to create an outline at this point. I'll keep watching and maybe somewhere along the video this will be addressed. I decided to go ahead and start a new novel (will just have to do the long process of copy pasting my codex) but now when I hit Preview Import nothing happens. Yes, it's in docx format. Yes, I tested to be sure the actual document opened for me. So I don't know what's going on.
Hi @rhaevyn-hart - let's try to dissect your problem! Have you used headers to mark your chapters? For the codex, you won't need to copy/paste - I would advise that you make a new novel without importing, use the 'template' aspect to copy over the codex from your other story automatically, then go down to the very bottom of the plan interface and import from there. When you say it is not recognising your prose, what do you mean? @@novelcrafter Hey Kate, nice of you to reply! I will hit the Discord again when I gather all my questions into a cohesive whole. I figured out the import problem. I was using OpenOffice which I now know is pretty much no longer used, opting for Libre.
Hello, Excellent video! I work with Screenplays and the format has Acts and Scenes, but no Chapters. Is there a way to organize the manuscript in this manner or should I simply consider each Chapter a "Scene"? I see you point out that there can be multiple Scenes within each Chapter. I realize Novelcrafter is designed for Novel Format and am fine with adapting as necessary but looking for ways to optimize its use. Thank You.
Hi! Yes, I think for ease it would be best to think of a chapter as a scene - after all, if there is only one scene in a chapter, it's both simultaneously >< But it shouldn't impact anything writing wise to do it that way :) -Kate | Education
I've got hundreds of pages of notes compiled over 5 years for my novel, much of it exposition, or lore. I've doubtless jotted down the same thoughts dozens of times. Is there any way I can copy them into NovelCrafter and have the software cut out the repetition and distil the main ideas?
Hmmmm... I'll have to have a think regarding this, but given the context that haiku can look at, you could certainly get it to analyse and point out duplicates... That doesn't solve the cutting out part, but could get you started on that journey. An upcoming improvement to extraction will help you when compiling your codex entries too (see the next livestream for more ;) ) -Kate | Education
Thank you, I’ve got a few aging manuscripts that need a refresh. I’d guess the next stage is detailed analysis and editing. Interestingly, chat gpt refused to play nice because of harassment. The protagonist was dunking sukuma wiki, a green vegetable from East Africa, in sauce.
Who would have thought cooking was harassment hahaha. Definitely try one of the claude beta models then >< I'm glad that it's inspired you to go back to them! Yeah, I'm going to have to go over the writing with a fine toothcomb and see how I can work on it next to finish the story. Need to have a think! -Kate | Education
@@BonnieDragonKat I've got all my models active. They show up just fine elsewhere. With Detect Character, I only see ChatGPT 3.5 and 4 Turbo, just like I see on Kate's screen in the video, so I'm guessing it's just how it is.
Hi Victor - unfortunately the detect character only uses GPT models atm - I would suggest using the second method I did to detect characters, by using Haiku in chat, and then extracting the message into codex entries :) -Kate | Education
Two words for you Kate: Mercury Retrograde. By the way, would this work if say you have multiple drafts of the same book and you want to put them together in one document? (Apparently my early writing was scene beats only) 😂 Also how would i note in the document if there is a pov switch?
So in this story I have three POV characters, so I certainly need to define these - that would be in the next steps, as I now have the codex entries for the story. In terms of multiple drafts, are they multiple versions of the same scene? -Kate | Education
@@novelcrafter Yes. What happened was I started this has like a sweet clean young adult novel and then I did another version of it that is more of a parallel and with all normal. There's something like six different versions of the same story.

I'm so glad that they're helpful
I would appareciate a additional Session on finding plot holes and analysing plot etc.
Don't worry - we're on it! Sunday 21st is pencilled in atm for the livestream. -Kate | Education

Keep an eye out for this Thursday, where we've got the sequel for this :)
Please give us a link to the "06-04-24 how to continue a novel in Novelcrafter" document in the video?
I've put both links in the description now :) -K

One of my chapters has a skull in it, and NC refused to do a Detect Character. Is there any way to use one of the NSFW models for this task?
Turn on your NSFW in NC and use an AI that is not greyed out.
