Reinhold Gliere lived a very long and productive life (1875-1856). However, he stopped writing for the piano in 1916. In 1955, one year before he died, he wrote two short but absolutely exquisite piano pieces. This E major "swan" song was one of them. Although written for the left hand only, Gliere had not given up his two favorite compositional techniques: conterpoints and chromaticism.
