I have to agree with others here. While I appreciate 1A Auto and their videos, taking the intake off is a much more efficient way of doing this. Ultimately if yiu are doing this I recommend doing your hoses, thermostat, coolant flush,, and serpentine belt. You have much better access to all of this.
Great job explaining the steps to change ECT sensor 2. This is the correct steps (in my case) when you have a check engine light on and you pull a P2185 code.
I think it is a Rad Fan switch sensor you are replacing. the ECT or Engine Coolant Temperature sensor is located at the engine block.
Hey I was wondering where is the temp sensor 1 located at? I'm just trying to figure out why my fans aren't kicking on. I have a 2009 honda crv.

#1 is screwed into the thermostat housing. It's on the side of the engine. Though I'm pretty sure #2 controls the fans and #1 is for "fuel evap control"
I believe this generation of CR-Vs is designed to take the blue coolant!
how can I know if 1 or 2 fails?
How often would you do this on a CRV?? mine is a 2009 AWD, is replacing the thermostat a good thing to do at the same time?

Are you sure this is the engine coolant sensor?? Usually they are located in the enging block, this looks more like the radiator fan switch...
Exactly this is radiator switch fan
It is, but 3rd Gen Honda CR-V's have two ECTs. One does control the fans, but also reports outlet coolant temp to ECU. The other is up by the thermostat, and reports the outlet coolant temp.. ECU reads both for engine coolant temp.
I have a question for you if you don’t mind. I replaced my alternator on my 2004 CRV and then my fans won’t turn on. I checked the fan switch at the bottom of the radiator.
I did the jump of the connector to the fan switch and with AC on both fans turned on. When the fan switch was replaced the fans didn’t come on. I assume all fuses and relays work since fans ran, so is there another switch that could be bad? If so where? If not what else can I check? Want to try to get it running tomorrow so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
+Common Guy We do not have a way of being able to diagnose the issue that you are experiencing with your vehicle but suggest taking it to a local mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
I saw your vids that you replace the fan switch and you put an aftermarket my o5 Crv have one of those as you installed and it didn’t work at all I went to the Honda and buy the oem sometimes those are to work at different temperature and that’s why you don’t see them kicks on
Dealership just charged my elderly mother $83 for the sensor even though the MSRP is like $52, and $330 in labor. Vehicle was a 1997 Honda CRV.
The max time they should be able to bill for is an hour.

Why is that coolant temperature sensor need replacing, the temperature gauge on the dashboard is not showing the right temperature?

In my case, 2006 Honda CRV the check engine light came on and a diagnostic code for temperature sensor came up. All the work was done, but now my temperature guage in the cabin creeps up to the Hot zone and hovers there, back to the shop,

Yes this is sensor #2 that controls the fans. #1 is near upper radiator hose on thermostat housing. #1 controls the guage on your dashboard

Yes, your check engine light will come on and if not replaced, overheating the engine will occur.

Test your fans before do in this
You don’t need to drain all the coolant, that’s a waste.
Get a big pan. Pour it all back in. No waste.
