As a kid from the 70's, that had a Camel Trophy Range Rover poster on his bedroom wall in the 80's. These look fantastic, especially the Rover. That washout at 19:02 looks unbelievably fun to wheel. Great times with the kids too!
Awesome video. My defender 110 arrived a couple of days ago. Its so much fun. I had it out in the snow tonight and it really surprised me how capable it is
After seeing these in action, I think 1/18 scale is more up my alley. I’m trying to expose my son to RCing and it seems like he would have more fun with a bigger scale that can overcome obstacles a little easier. I know part of the fun is the challenge but I don’t want him getting burned out. I really appreciate the in depth testing on this video. Super informative. I think if I were to get a FCX I think it would be the shorter wheel base with the 50mm tires sounds like a great platform to start from.
I really like the Range Rover and Discovery a lot. The defender 90 has that squashed stubby look like the fcx24 K5 blazer. I dont think it would be as noticeable if fms didn't completely nail the scale looks on the other 3! I plan to get one pre-ordered today, I have it narrowed down to 2. Great overall breakdown and comparison Adam!
This is an excellent review. You did a very thorough job. They look great and have a lot of great features. As you mentioned the scale appearance is outstanding. I think your copilot did a great job and demonstrated what r/c cars are for, having fun. I think I would buy one of then Defender versions for the larger tires.
@@CapeCrawlers You're welcome. After I watched your video I watched three others on the same crawlers. One out of three got better slightly crawling results. The only difference was he used a 900mah battery, which doesn't seem logical to me.
Back watching again 7:50 PM Saturday, July 20 got my defender 110 I love it. The detail is awesome. Just ordered the discovery today. That’s the one I was gonna order at first with the black hood. Wish I could’ve ordered them both at the same time just couldn’t but it’s on the way now.👍👍😎
Just received mine in the post yesterday, haven't even opened it yet because im waiting to do an unboxing video 😊 appreciate your comprehensive review .Greetings from Northern Europe...Harry
Is the discovery actual scale 1/24 or 1/18 like other fms models? Whats the size comparison for example vs mini z 4runner? Smaller than mini z or bigger?
Very cool,I think the answer to these things is one set of body and tires(the stock for scale) and a lexan body and big wheels and tires for crawling comp style maybe? Anyway I’m gonna give that a try.thanks for all the info.I can’t decide between the Disco and Range Rover,I grew up seeing Disco’s probably go that way.
@cape crawlers - Finally got mine today!! I bought extra LEDs for the brake and top lights. Any advice where to look how to do it. I looked at the ECS and it already is full in like the traxxas that had extra spaces. Thanks!
Nice review I've got the range rover on the way to my home. I'm a big fan of drivers but looking around for1/24 scale seems hard to find. Do you have any ideas? 😹
I found if you've grind down at the front of the case where the front drive line goes into the transfer transmission area. You're a lot less likely to get hung up on every obstacle
With the counter rotating shafts, we wont be able to swap axles with scx24 n old portal style fcx24 axles will we?? Would love to pick 1 of these up and get some aftermarket scx24 axles for it but not sure if that would work
If there was a way to turn the dif spool the other way it could work but from what I've seen that's not possible the way fms made them. Take this with a grain of salt because I very well could be wrong 😂
@blaismerchant8582 been trying to brainstorm, thinking mues straight axle in the front n whatever portal axle in the rear. That would also give it some rear underdrive that could help. Another option i think would just be swapping out the trans for the older style without counter-rotation then proceeding. I think that mix match axles could be cool n different. Regardless im excited to see how people build these up n how they compete.
That looks SO good! I need one of those asap! Also the lgrp comp chassis and the lgrp brushless stuff has finally landed in germany wich means its gonna be at my place in like 2-3 days!! IM SO HYPED!!!!!!
@cape crawlers..... oh no looks i may have to get one. Do you know when these are coming out? If i heard correct, the range rover did the best? are there parts available for upgrades? thanks from Houston Texas!
They ship first week of July I believe. They are all so close performance wise. I think the Range Rover or the Defender 110 are the best overall, but the margin is so small
@@CapeCrawlers i couldn't wait! i already bought the range rover 😄 The next question is, what about upgrades? the TRX4M was my first RC i got about 4 months ago and its fully upgraded. I was spoiled everything was out on amazon i wanted. Are there parts i can get from the fcx24? (correct me if i am wrong on the car number) or will i need to wait for the specifics? i can do 1" tires and any springs i want, correct? Also, all the shops in Houston i called do not sell any of their products. will this be an amazon only issue? thanks!

Someone mentioned the frame rails are extremely similar to the scx24 rails, meaning the drivetrain could be transferred over. Idk if that's entirely true.
does the Furitek fcx24 stinger brushless kit work with this product? I want to know because I am thinking about buying one and want to go brushless with the stock remote. Thanks! Edit: you might think about getting a head mount for your camera to make things easier on yourself.
I recently bought one of theese FMS FCX24M and must say it is a BIG DISSAPOINTMENT. Axle gear is made form metal, but that metal has quality of wet mud. Just about after 20 minutes of driving, rear and front axle gear is shattered into chunks of metal. Now the model is just standing on shelf motionless. I bought it direcly from FMS. Tried to contact their support and they will just ignore you. Thats their solution. Done. No reply. No warraty repair. Just silence from their side. If you look it up on forums, you will see it is quite common problem. So i took another bunch of money and wanted to order spare parts. U can only buy new modified version V2 gears (so they know, that V1 design has design flaws) but it is not compatible with V1 axles. You have to buy V2 axle to fit newer V2 gears. And you know what....the v2 axles are all sold out. I would newer ever buy anything from FMS again and advise you do the same. Customer support is terrible and quality too! I dont get the hype.
They are great in some big ways, and crappy in some annoying ways. For me, the most annoying is that if i want to use that very cool 2 speed transmission on another rig (i would buy two right now) then i gotta use their axles. Or throw some X15 or Isokinetic or Super8 or a list of other great axles on it... thats a no go with that transmission. Lame. Their axles are not a great design. Sure, they work fine, but they basically tried to reinvent the wheel with those axles, and if you are going to do that then they better be great.. these are not. I'll wait to buy the body, and wait for someone else to design a nice 2 speed.
Maybe it is just me but these trucks have a strong toy-like vibe to me. Somehow, the scale realism isn't as good as previous models. Perhaps it is the rather oversized wheels and tyres or maybe it is the chunky black plastic accessories?

Looks over performance. And thats good. If it makes you smile to drive you've got a hit. Thats how i feel about my power wagon.

I upgraded my tires to 56 x 22 mm and repositioned the shocks. It changes the rig to become very impressive. There are also weights in the wheels.

Are the transmission in fcxm the same size as the fcx24?
Smaller, but not by a large amount

The rails do look VERY similar to the scx24. I haven't done a side by side of the rails only but they do look visually very similar.
Did you ever modify one of those???
Hey Adam....good to see you. I'm still bummed about those CJ7 projects 🤷🏾♂️
Not throwing in the towel yet! Ripper V2 is in the works and I will be in touch for the grdloc livery. Even if it's just a one-off
Do they hesitate each time they come down off an obstacle like the FMS k5 does? That hesitation makes it so miserable to drive.
I don’t notice that with these personally

Watch 2fm rc video he does a really good comparison.
At 6:30 Adam shows the two together, Traxxas is bigger as it is 1:18 vs 1:24 for these.
I like these new Fms landies. Only thing i feel that hurts that Range Rover model is there is to much wheel well showing compared to size of the tire.
