In this video I restored this old 'Gustav Barthel 300' Blowtorch. After purchasing the first test showed, that this old beauty still works a little bit. But the condition was pretty bad, so its time for a restoration.
I started with disassembling the whole Blowtorch. The tank was cleaned with paint stripper, and sandblasted afterwards. unfortunately i had to remove the old sticker as well. But i spray painted a new sticker with templates from my plotter. The whole paintjob was sealed in 2K clear coat.
After that the tank was done, i restored the brass parts. They were sandblasted with glass beads, after that i wirebrushed them with a brass wirebrush.
The last part was the type label. I removed the old paint, spraypainted the whole label in 2K black matte and engraved the original lettering with my laser.
The final test shows that this beast works perfectly fine now!
What is the small part in the nozzle for?
The small part AND the lever are a cleaning unit. At the tip of the small nozzle there was a little steel brush once. When hitting the lever, the brush cleans the nozzle. Unfortunately i couldnt remake this part.
How does this blowtorch work?
You start by hitting the pump for around 5-6 times. The pressure presses the gasoline at the top of the blowtorch. When preheating (what I did with a second Blowtorch), the gasoline transforms into gas. With the capillary effect new gasoline will be 'sucked' into the nozzles.
Without preheating things could end pretty bad, since the gasoline is still a liquid. it would splash burning gasoline around.
Brand: Gustav Barthel
Model: 0300
Time: around 1950

When Mister Patina and My Mechanics release videos one day apart from one another, it's a perfect weekend.
Thanks Colin! :-)

@@misterpatinaif you didn’t use Oxystrip and just blasted it would you get the same results. Letting a project sit for 28 days to strip off paint seems quite long, I love the way it came out!!!
@BuddyDanger 28 days was just a joke (there’s a movie called '28 days later'). I use paint stripper before sandblasting, because I don’t want to have the paint particles in my sandblasting cabinet, nor in my lungs.
@@misterpatina I thought 28 days was quite a stretch but I was like maybe there’s a secret!!! lol. Good job brother!!!
28 Tage Einwirkzeit für Farbentferner kann ich zwar nicht glauben aber trotzdem ein super ergebnis
Oh, hey, I thought I was a Patreon at some point. Glad to see the channel is still going strong. I'll definitely be resubbing, I had to drop most of my subs.
Don’t stress yourself! Nice to see you’re still here 🙂👍
Colossal job !! 🛠️ 👌🏼 👍🏼...
Very beautiful restauration.. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼... 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much for the partage 👍🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼...
Amazing job. Like from India.
Got me thinking for a second, hmm why does he call it 'John' 🤔 Hmm, a wick, named John.. 😐🤣🤣🤣 Nice video, i like it👍
😄😄😄
Hey folks, additional info: The small gear with the 'missing teeth' isnt broke, it was manufactured this way - these teeth are missing on purpose: otherwise this gear wouldnt fit into the housing. On the other hand it controls the "way" of the lever, so it only can make a 90° turn. Thanks!
Thanks! I suspected it was something like that since you cleaned it and made no further repairs.
I was just writting about that..😄 ,work safety ,Peace..✌️
Awesome german machine !!
"Movie Night" with Mister Patina. Great movie referenced humour along with another great restoration!
Haha, thanks! Iam glad you enjoyed!
Greetings from Petersburg!
That's what I like about old blowtorches? The fact is that they work completely cynically, disregarding the quality of fuel, weather and temperature conditions, the condition of the valve and nozzle. And they don't care about their looks. They. Just. Сontinue to work. What about modern blowtorches? Either the gasoline is not the same, then the pressure is low, then the nozzle is a little dirty, then the weather is cold / hot.. Sucks, not blowtorches. As for your work, my friend, I would be pleased to work with such a blowtorch. Health and peace to your family! 🤝🤝🤝
Super filming. Thanks. That laser was awesome
Thanks :-)
Perfect restoration
Thanks!
Thanks!
I think it would be nice if you show at the end the Work hours that you put in the Projekts
Like and comment on this wonderful master.
So glad to hear that universal grunt when removing the top from the tank 😂
😄😄😄
HAAANNNZZZ!!!! GET US ZHE MINI FLAMMENWERFER!!!!!
Seriously great work as always!
Haha!! Best meme on earth!
thanks for the restoration. Have a lovely day.
John Wick and the Bakelite Boys sounds like a good jazz band! Thank you for that ever-present sense of humour.
Haha, thanks Carolina! And thank you so much for all of your support :-)
I like your adjustable wrench, but was surprised it wasn't a Hand Tool Rescue!
I still have one of my fathers. I remember him using it in the 1950's and 60's until propane torches became available. Finally cleaning it up this winter, I hope.
Do it! 🙂
чувак, ты ручку вместо бакелитовой, сделал термопластчной, она у тебя расплавится во время работы лампы.
Nice sandblasting process! It works like only air, no dust. I restored Gustav Barthel on board the vessel and use handmade sandblasting camera (material plywood) - excessive dust. All your cinemas are very interesting and useful for beginners!
Nice restoration. Laser machine is very interesting...
About how it is working the blowtorch: Start by put 5-6 pumps for pressure, as you said. To preheat the head, you must put a small quantity of gasoline in the "cup" under the head and ignite.
After preheating, works as you said. This type of blowtorch use normal gasoline, for cars, which is not so light. That is why the head was covered in soot at the beginning...
IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you SO MUCH!!!! I remember seeing these being used when I was a boy! My father was a plumber and this was what you used for brazing copper.
You’re welcome Doug! Iam glad you enjoyed! 🙂
@@misterpatina I JUST got the joke about the wick.... oy! lol
Thanks for keeping the casting marks. They're part of the manufacturing process, hence of the tool
You’re welcome!
Excelente trabajo,un saludo desde España 🇪🇦
Good very good 👏👏🌹🍀🍀
Mister Patina...
I learn a new technique in each of your works and I improve my amateur works thanks to you. thank you so much my dear friend...🙏🙏🙏
Iam glad you like my work 🙂
"I bumped into an old flame recently, and rediscovered the fire"...
I am only satisfied regardless of whether it works or not, only action and sound are important
Thank you for helping me relax I'm stressed and you're videos help me ❤
You’re welcome! ❤️
That was super impressive. You’re a mad scientist 🤓!
Thanks!
Beautifully done, sir. It was interesting to see the brass wheel brush polish the brass nozzle assembly. The torch looks brand new. The stenciling and painting looked spot on. I suspect that’ll go on the self somewhere to be displayed.
Thanks a lot B! This is one of my favorite pieces and will get the extra high place in the display 🙂
Love the “John Wick” reference 😂
Awesome restoration Mr Patina.👍
Thanks my friend! 🙂
The second life for another tool. The most satisfying when a good old working instrument receives the second chance.
Thanks Tommy, iam glad you enjoyed!
..lol “here’s the wick, I call him John!”
Could sell that back to the original manufacturer for their showroom! Awesome!
Haha, thanks! :-)
I like your subtle jokes. Please more! ...I know it may be risky 🙂
😄😄
Always great content! My wife and I love watching your videos. It helps us decompress after a horrendously long week. Keep it up!
Nice to hear, thanks! Greets to the wife 🙂✌️
@@misterpatina Wife says hello! 😎
Good restore brother👍
Thanks bro!
Mister Patina, you might be able to fabricate a cleaning brush for the torch out of a set of Carburetor Cleaning Brushes, they are used to clean carb jets, which are pretty narrow. try going down to your local auto parts store and ask about brass cleaning brushes for carburetor jets.
Dave, thats an awesome idea! Thanks!
Exclentent patina!!🙌🙌🙌 Beautifull restoration
Thanks!
Съеденная шестеренка, да просто почищу и будет работатьXD... Смех да и только.
Nice work😊
Thanks! :-)
Great video great restoration great content.you brought the torch back to life.very nice, cannot say anymore.keep it up.😎😎😎👍👍👍
Laser is my favorite part really. Cool project! 😎
Thanks!
… Marvelous.
Thanks!
John Wick 🤣🤣🤣 Love it !

Very cool … even with the giggle as the blowtorch was lit using a blowtorch.
Blowtorchception 😄
Lovely restoration of the torch
Thanks!
Using your lathe as a press.. I mean its good in principle but a good way to muck something up for larger parts
Bravo!
This genius never disappoints. I'm fascinated by his dedication and skill and to be truthful, somewhat jealous. Another highly enjoyable video. Thanks.
Hey John, thanks, I really appreciate! 🙂
Beautiful restoration like always! Love your content, Mister Patina! ☺🤍
Thank you so much mimi 🙂🫶

The Bakelite Boys sounds like a retro 1920s jazz band; perhaps a smaller version of Palast Orchester. I'd pay to listen to them! 😁
That laser is astounding. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the new workshop! 🙂🐵
Haha, yeah I thought the same! Thanks Martin, youll be updated...:-)
i want to appear in the next video genius please. I like so much your videos🇦🇷🇦🇷
This is the channel i go to when i've finished watching all of the My Mechanics videos 😂
😄😄😄
Amazing!!!!
Thanks!
Another good restoration. Getting better and better.
Thanks!
nice work 👍💪👍 sometimes i use a blowtorch of this type, but not exactly this one, for soldering. i not really need it - just for fun and enjoying the old technique
Hey Henry, that’s awesome! It’s like opening the garage and take a ride with your Oldtimer on a sunny Sunday 🙂
@@misterpatina yes, you are absolutely right my old timer motorcycle has his home in the same garage where the blowtorch lives
Es ist mir immer wieder eine große Freude deine Videos zu schauen.. Mach weiter so!
Dankeschön :-)
...lookin' good, nice job. keep well
Thanks Bob!
Incrediabley impressive.
Excellent video, as always. Was not expecting lighter fluid as fuel.
Worked perfectly :-)
This is a very amazing Work Mal wieder spitzen arbeit heraus gehauen danke für das sehr tolle Video 👍❤️👍
Looks good I got one a not to long ago. I mite just clean it up and get ot working again.
Great restoration, as always. I'm yet to understand why old blowtorches were such complex mechanisms
I didn't like the fill over the dent in the tank. But beatiful work!
Beautifully executed
Thanks buddy!
Watching you use a rag so close to the spinning jaw of the lathe gives me the fear.
Excuse me Mister P but you mixed up the franchise timeline. This is John Wick 2 - Return of the Firethread as John Wick appeard first in my train lantern resto. It seems that Keanu is working with different producers. Let's confront him together while having our next beer. The laser work is really really nice. Overall great job and satisfying video.
Iam really sorry - thanks for keeping things clear! And iam looking forward to the beer 😎
@@misterpatina 😅 no need to apologize, only shows we once again share the same "humor" 😘😘😘

I envy you now having a working Gustav Barthel 300' Blowtorch. For years I've been hoping to find one and rebuild it.
I guess theyre more easy to find here in germany :(
Nice work! Cool laser you got there😎

Fascinating ! Thank you for sharing.
