    At 29:30-ish Jonny talks about 2wheel drive versus 4wheel drive 911's. I had the opportunity a long time ago to be invited to Millbrook on a Porsche day and drove the Carrera2 and Carrera4. The 4 was perhaps a little more planted but the 2 was a much nicer, more immediate car.

    Hi guys, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this vid. It reminded of the days when blessed with good fortune and hard work in 1998 I was able to buy a '97 911 Carrera 3.2 wide body cabriolet (complete with whale tail). Very few miles and still under warranty. This was my final 'jump off the roundabout' moment and I enjoyed her for about 6 months before selling her, at a significant profit, and buying a house in Scotland outright on the proceeds. Wonderful time , wonderful memories. Thanks very much for bringing them back, Dave.

    I had a 997.1 Carrera. The steering is a delight..sublime even, but you can't get the best out of it until you go on a circuit at 9/10ths. GT86 is proving to be more fun on normal roads ... and cheaper, and more reliable.

    If I had the money I would buy a 987 Cayman S and drive the nuts off it. They will also probably start rising in value as people discover there is a hydraulic steering porsche sports car that you have to rev out (and that's what people are being told is GOOD (and it is)) that isn't a collection piece.
    There's my "if I had money" opinion no one asked for.

Was I impressed, well not that much as I have a 997.1 2S Cabrio. Interesting. What do you prefer about the 991 over the 997? Richard

    • @BennettIsAmazing
      @BennettIsAmazing 5 лет назад

      @@smithandsniff*I'm not star stuck* Funnily enough I prefer the steering; those extra few inches on the front axle just seem to make a difference, despite the electricity. I also like the size - I totally understand the appeal of the Cayman over a 911 - especially the GT4 which has the same engine as my C2S - but I use my car all the time, and the extra size just makes it more usable. Talking of the engine.. It just has a bit more poke. It's also a lighter car than the 997. I'm totally willing to accept that I'm wrong and I'm a complete novice when it comes to Porsche geekery and am ignorant of accepted wisdom, but I just prefer it. Do I still love the 997? Yes completely, I didn't realise you'd actually read this and I don't want to come across like I'm attacking your car (your 3 car garage is pretty much perfect in my opinion, although missing the 16v Lancia Delta Integrale HF Evo 2 in yellow for the Italian summer house), I'm not at all, I'm just being a bit of a twat on the internet. Fair enough. That's interesting to hear. Don't get me wrong, I really like the 991 and it feels a bit more civilised in every day use I suppose. I can definitely see myself trading the 997 for one at some point. They're all good. R

    • @BennettIsAmazing
      @BennettIsAmazing 5 лет назад

      @@smithandsniff Sorry for slow reply - yes they really are all good. I am a 911 fan, however stock that may be. I'm not sure I'd use the term 'civilised' but I use my car daily and for me the stuff like the 'flight deck' and hi res dash dials for the map etc just make it a nicer place for me to be for my mostly boring daily drives. My Mrs drives the 911 from time to time too.. how does that make you feel? The only reason I want to get a more aggressive sports car is to watch her drive it. I work in film so prioritise early memories of films, but I'm probably a similar age to you, so perhaps you might also share a soft spot for a particularly memorial opening sequence from Goldeneye. You continue to be the highlight of my Fridays, keep it up lads!

    I’m currently saving for a rear wheel drive 991.1 GTS (PDK). Hopefully they’ll start coming down in price with new GT3 coming out and old GT3’s dropping in price.

    Sorry chaps, much as I love your vlogs, such fun, just can't be bothered to watch all of this because of the sound, this Porker is worse than that Alpine you drove ! The value of your stuff is the conversation and genuine synergy between you, if I can't hear that... if you see what I mean.

    The Cayman blows all 911's out of the water for value for money and dynamics.. Bar GT3 etc, with a few choice tweaks, down on power but up on smiles. 987.2 manual.

      Do you by any chance have a Cayman? They're great, but they don't have back seats and they don't hold their money like 911s. Lovely cars all the same. Richard

      But everyone thinks you are poor and can’t afford a 911.
