Thank you! Finally someone else saying what I’ve been saying. Its a no brainer go with the R. I still hear people complaining about the R weight as well…I just say, well you better keep your surron stock then. In my opinion surron needs to lower their price by about 1k to compete with the Talaria R.
The best thing, there’s a random motorcycle store up the road from me (just randomly saw it last night) that offers free work space and some of their shop tools to put your bike together. Which probably also means helpful advice from somebody who’s not busy. I’m going to look more but after finding that shop I looked for an option in the area for surrons. The closest is the same store (they don’t sell surrons, algorithm knows talaria is close) and a bike shop that sells 9000$ mountain bikes with pedal assist.
Hey! I Just bought a Talaria sting R this friday and its AMAZING! Mine came with a big center placed display with lots of great information like a motorcycle. trip, power usage and so much more. the bike is a absolute blast to ride! :D
I have the surron x from Luna cycle and love it. The extended seat from Australia is a must. I just received my talaria sting r from Luna cycle for all the reasons in the video. Comparing the two, the sting instantly feels stiffer and more confidence inspiring at speed on asphalt. It has an upside down fork and wider wheels and swing arm which adds to the stiffness. The weight is noticeably more when hoisting it, but ok when riding. Not mentioned is that the surron didn’t come with a good front fender so that was an added cost.
Im so happy I didn’t buy into the surron hype otherwise I’d be having some serious buyers remorse right about now. I couldn’t believe people were actually paying as much to upgrade them as they paid for it stock.
I ordered my Talaria Sting R yesterday from Luna Cycle...I'm on the April waiting list. This video nailed exactly why I bought this ebike over the Surron...it's a beast just stock. One thing I know from experience about upgrading cars and mini bikes...it's expensive and it requires more maintenance. I plan on going stock so I don't void my warranty
Josh, another Kick in the AR$E slam dunk Talaria Sting-R vid. Nite SirRon SurRon, I too reviewed Sur-Ronnie's vid. So stoked I waited. Mostly because all the upgrade needed cost upwards of 8k with bike, was thinking well I'll just keave my X or Bee or whatever stock for a while. Whaaaaaaaaat!!! out of the box, Talsria is doing it right. Sur-Ron you pissed off the wrong core of former employees. And the solid balls of steel for Luna to add on a "competitor" with exclusivity. I can hear it now: Dear Sur-Ron, make us a Sting-R/ Sur-Ron that meets or exceeds the competition and it will be game on. Until then, our customers are going to make the correct choice. (waiting on my Discover card) how do I let Luna know you are mostly responsible for selling this Talaria Sting-R 2023 to me.????
Thanks so much for watching and offering to put in a word for me at Luna. Appreciate the kind words and if I can help ya out in any way, just reach out 🤙🏽 really appreciate the support and I hope your sting brings you as much joy as mine has!
Aye man thank you so much for this video! I am 14 and have been wanting to buy the sur ron X for over 9 months. I have been balancing school and work and that means I can't work alot, which means I cant make enough money to buy it. So that ultimately means I have alot of time to think what electic supermoto bang-for-my-buck bike I should get. Before the Talaria sting R came out I was set on the Surron X but now I have been contemplating between the two. Talaria sting R is wayyy better BUT it has a gearbox which means I have to maintain it with oil and I have no experience and its fairly new with not alot of aftermarket stuff. But the surron x is very well known but wayyy weaker and it would take ungodly amounts of money to upgrade it to the Talaria sting R's preformance. This video made me set in to buying the Talaria sting R. THANK YOU!
theres less mods for the talaria now, but I bet by mid summer there will be a lot more... and a lot of surron upgrades are interchangeable with talaria... I did an oil change on the gear box already and its not hard... I'll put out a video on it next week... its just 2 screws to get a cover off, and then the drain bolt... then replace and refill
I have one big issue with my 2 week old R, it has NO regen. Yeah I know, it supposedly has 4 levels, but all 4 do nothing! I also know the throttle has to be closed, and the battery SOC below 90%. I'm an experienced Sur Ron rider BTW. Doesn't matter if I'm in sport or eco, no regen. I don't street ride, only mountain trails, which still have snow here, but in riding familar gravel roads near home, with a 12% grade, the missing regen is sorely missed. I'm using my brakes to keep the speed down to where my Sur Ron would ride brake free.
That’s strange… I def feel it on level 4 compared to L1. Other people have claimed this so maybe it’s an issue? I’m unsure because I thought the same at first, but quickly realized 4 had much more drag than 1 when letting off in sport mode… hope you can get it sorted 👍🏽
@@se11459 Yes, other than the wimpy regen, and by that I mean not just less power returned to the battery (it's a bigger battery, so any regen action would result in a lesser percentage of the AH total, I get that...) but most evident in the lack of braking. I climbed a 8800' nearby peak the other day, LOST 3% on the descent, on my Sur Ron I GAINED 3 %.
@@shockadellick I agree. surron is going to come back swinging next year, but so is talaria. The real winner of the competition is us, the consumer, cause the bikes are going to get better a lot faster from here on out
Like you I've been drooling for a while, but over the Talaria! And especially now more so with the R. I just feel like they're a better company, they seem to listen. They're actually making improvements and changes, Surron to me, are a brand name. Yes they are the original. And I don't doubt they'll be a lot of fun. Bit the cost of upgrades, for how you said less stock power than a Talaria. Plus the Talaria has the peg brace as you said, and the gearbox just makes it a no brainer. I haven’t found the parts to be more expensive than surron parts at all, and china parts usually aren’t the best move anyway. I don’t notice the weight, and like you said, a lot of surron owners prefer the heavier bike because it’s more planted and feels safer at high speeds. Thanks for watching! 🤝
Wow, thanks for making this vid, Im looking at these. And I just Subbed. Cant wait when you figure out the gear ratio adjustments. How to get the best low end torque for climbing hills, etc.. Is there any manual that has that info on it.?
Appreciate that! So I’ve found the gear ratios in the display are for calibrating the speedometer if you change wheels or sprocket size. They don’t actually change the characteristics of the bike
Yeah they do make the seat riser kits for these. It’s your preference really. I know it’d be nice to sit on one or test ride, but that’s not always possible. The only downside to going to a larger bike like an ultra bee, is you lose the light weight flickable feel of the mx4 and surron, which I think is a lot of the fun factor of these bikes
My biggest contemplation is the aftermarket parts availability. I think companies will start making all the same controllers etc for the talaria soon though.
It’s just better a better bang for the buck! The aftermarket argument is kind of dead now as well. Most anything you can buy for a surron can be bought for talaria now. I still love mine and wouldn’t change a thing! Thanks for the feedback! 🤝
I hope Sur Ronster gets a commission because that video and exactly where you started it is what sold me on the Talaria Sting R and bought it right after watching the video from Luna Cycle BUT NOT HAPPY with Luna Cycle at all and their customer service has been ridiculous and I still don't have my bike which I was told end of April but now they say they never said that and now it's sometime in May even though I took a picture of my paid bill and showing on their website delivery for mid to late April and I sent that picture and they told me I was lying how am I lying showing a picture proof of their bill on their website but hopefully my anger will go away after I get the bike.
Dang. That’s really unfortunate to hear. I’ve had very good experiences with Luna. Try reaching out to Eric on Facebook via messenger. You can find him in a lot of the groups in there. He’s very responsive and helpful. Rush shipped me parts no questions asked
@shanew7361 I finally received the bike it was around 6 weeks or so and honestly their customer service is one of the worst I've dealt with just getting them on the phone is hard enough and it's all for waste of time because they will offer no help at all and then be rude on top of it. I fully decked the bike out and thankfully I didn't buy anything else from Luna Cycle I bought everything from Warp 9 and a few other places. As far as the bike itself goes I absolutely love it.
@@shanew7361 their customer service is nothing but top notch. Anyone that has had any issue with their bike, or parts damaged in shipping, Luna has rush shipped replacement parts. Lunacycle does it right
what about the Talaria xXx now? is that not as good as the R? is the new xXx more like a simple hardtail mountainbike while the R model you show here is more like a full suspension mountinbie with an electric engine stronger than the xXx? how to know if the xXx will be better for ones budget and off road commuting or one of the other electric hybrid bikes? thanks !
Nothing with wheels is perfect out of the box. Everything needs mods, especially power. As for aftermarket support, Talaria has rapidly caught up. Pegs, bars, suspension, wheels, brakes, seat risers, brakes, controllers, motors, seats, etc, .... It's all available, and there are plenty of options. I've had my Sting R since early May, and I had an aftermarket headlight, switch, skid plate, rear shock guard, and pegs for it before I received the bike. Installed them all while I was topping off the battery before my first ride. Way more aftermarket parts installed now, and more to come. Not waiting for availability, my wallet is the limiting factor. If I were to do it all over again, I would just buy the frame ($850), and gearbox ($350), and build it with all aftermarket parts, since I have been replacing all these perfectly good OEM parts anyways.
It’s already happening in Cali… I’m still the only person I’ve seen on one where I’m from in nc… the problem is 14-15 year old kids are getting on them and acting a fool. I have zero issues with law enforcement here
I was in the same boat. Except my surron got delivered the same day as surronster dropped his video. I was able to sell the surron for 4200 and get the MX4 instead. The Talaria is kind of a no brainer for people whole don't plan to mod.
I didn't delete it, I put a gritshift blinder headlight on... they're out of stock everywhere right now, but this headlight looks exactly like it amzn.to/3pfnS8h and gritshift makes this blazer headlight as well amzn.to/3ph6yiV which isn't as bright as the blinder, but still much better than stock. I'd like to get a direct mount stem myself soon, so let me know what you end up getting, and yes I'm fairly certain the sting parts fit
Gearbox, bigger battery, bigger rims + tires, peg brace… it all adds up. Still prefer the weight for both the performance benefits and the stability at speed
I was able to do some testing on the trails yesterday, I’ve got part one coming soon that will explain the clickers, and how adjusting them can get your desired result. Part 2 will come out when I get a suspension pump, so I can experiment with different air pressures in the forks/shock
I’m thinking about saving up for a talaria but I want something that feels like kinda like mtb mixed with dirt bike it’s just gonna take awhile to get the money for it though
@ I sold my mx4 and I miss it big time. I’m probably going to get another one this summer. The price for what you get is a pretty great value right now. The Altis looks like a beast but it’s still so new. I really like the gearbox instead of the belt that talaria offers. I beat the heck out of my mx4, put 1600 miles on it, raced it on moto tracks, it never let me down
I haven’t gotten the chance to ride an ultra bee but from what I’ve seen and heard it’s a more off road type bike than the talaria. Little bigger and beefier. Talaria feels like a motorized mountain bike. Very light and flickable. A different kind of fun for me. Ultra bee will feel more like a dirt bike imo
Haven’t ridden one, but much beefier bike. More off road oriented. A lot of the fun of the mx4 for me is how light and flickable it is. Think motorized mountain bike. The ultra bee leans more towards the feel of a dirt bike
@@freerfixedit I just watched a review and it's noticeably louder than the MX4 and even the Sur-ron X. I need stealthy, so leaning towards MX-4 partly for hunting.
@@Scottyman99 probably your best bet. Comes with an o-ring chain which from what I’ve seen/heard is significantly quieter than the belt drive on the lbx and non o ring chains
Any chance you could tell me if the surron x and the mx4 have the same battery connection and if the batteries can fit in either or meaning swappable? Thanks in advance!
Honestly man, I think the power would be okay, but my brother is 6’4 and about 230 and I’d def recommend he get something like the ultra bee. Same speed and fun factor, just will be better suited to your frame
ye but does it make huge difference wonder who is out there to do test witch goes faster I mean your point is right talaria string R Out of box Vs surron light bee x talaria wins but wonder who wins uogradet version if talaria has 8000 wat peek limit and surron 12000
You’re comparing the stock peak 8kw of talaria to 12kw peak modded surron. The stock surron peaks at 6kw… I think if you went mod for mod with the 2 the talaria will out perform. But we just have to wait and see someone do it, and see how well the talaria holds up. But I think the new ipm motor will handle the power upgrades well
@@freerfixedit ye it should deffinaly apply way stronger mods and outpeak power we need wait bac12000 release or something hahaha burn battery and wonder when they realise more powerfull battery than 72v
@@IgnasZ I’m not saying a stock talaria is more powerful than a 72v surron… but if you did the same mods to both bikes, I think the talaria can benefit more and it’s motor can be pushed further with power upgrades
they come artificially limited from the factory. There is a brown wire under the cover near the horn. Cut it, and it unlocks the full power of the bike. Check my unboxing video for the location of the wire and what it looks like
@@freerfixedit Man I love it!!!! I mainly just riding in mode 2 and use sports mode as a power boost. I will take it out for our weekly ride this Thursday!!!! Can’t wait!! It’s built really well! Nice to get it without having to upgrade nothing, well the 72 volt version.
Talaria sting type R they say peak wat is 8000 I unsure if fully upgraded one or not I don't know what difference would be bac8000 plus 72v battery on talaria Vs same upgrades on surron light bee x . Lighter x watax power is 12000 Vs talaria 8000 so . We talk 4000 w power diffrence
@@IgnasZ oh yeah, surronster runs his surron at 14kw I believe… and you can push the bikes beyond it, but they say the sweet spot is somewhere around 15kw or less. More than that is scary power people say… and I’d believe it. That’s double the stock sting r
You’d have to check your local laws to be sure. From my experience, if you wear a helmet and don’t draw attention to yourself, cops don’t bother you. I know they’re cracking down on them in Cali though
depends on if you plan to upgrade in the near future or not, if youre going to do battery or controller upgrades I'd say no, but if you're going to ride it stock I'd say its worth it

Did you receive the bike? How has customer service/support been?
Lunacycle does it right
@@devinswanson1752 Where would you suggest I buy the bike from then? I live in MI.
what about the Talaria xXx now? is that not as good as the R? is the new xXx more like a simple hardtail mountainbike while the R model you show here is more like a full suspension mountinbie with an electric engine stronger than the xXx?
how to know if the xXx will be better for ones budget and off road commuting or one of the other electric hybrid bikes?
thanks !
Stay tuned, I have a video coming soon where I’ll give my 2 cents on the new XXX, who I think it’s targeted towards, and pros vs cons
Great video, sold me on the talaria. Also what pants are those?
Thanks! Appreciate it, the pants are just a pair of volcom pants 🤙🏽
The Talaria is perfect out the box, but for those looking to mod the surron has options for all upgrades, depends on your budget.
Yeah if you wanted to mod right now I’d say go with surron. But I do think the aftermarket world will catch up for the R by mid summer
Thank you very much for the video it was super helpful.
Appreciate the feedback! 🤝
great video. just ordered mine earlier today
Awesome! You’re gonna love it! 🤙🏽
@@freerfixedit have u done the wire snipping thing? or its not needed? for more speed
@@esk8unity first thing you should do!
@@freerfixedit whats the mph difference? i think i saw u did 51mph stock before the new chain? or that was with the wire snipped?
Does the talaria sting r have an internal gear box instead of the belt drive? Idk if I'm mixing that up with another bike
Yes it does, it has a gearbox instead of a belt primary like surrons
Do you think once these go mainstream that states will start making laws to force people to register them?
It’s already happening in Cali… I’m still the only person I’ve seen on one where I’m from in nc… the problem is 14-15 year old kids are getting on them and acting a fool. I have zero issues with law enforcement here
4 a beginner like me the most. The drive on the road?
I was in the same boat. Except my surron got delivered the same day as surronster dropped his video. I was able to sell the surron for 4200 and get the MX4 instead. The Talaria is kind of a no brainer for people whole don't plan to mod.
wow! happy to hear you were able to sell the surron! it really is though, I cant stay off of this thing... zero buyers remorse...thanks for watching!
How much better is the 2023 then the 2022? I’m currently deciding between the 2023 Surron and 2022 talaria
how did you do the headlight delete and what do you think about putting a warp 9 direct stem mount on? do the Talaria sting parts fit the new Sting R?
I didn't delete it, I put a gritshift blinder headlight on... they're out of stock everywhere right now, but this headlight looks exactly like it amzn.to/3pfnS8h and gritshift makes this blazer headlight as well amzn.to/3ph6yiV which isn't as bright as the blinder, but still much better than stock. I'd like to get a direct mount stem myself soon, so let me know what you end up getting, and yes I'm fairly certain the sting parts fit
@@freerfixedit sweet! I should be getting my bike at the end of the month
Which one do you think would be better? A Talaria or a surron?
Talaria in every way. Much more bang for buck and a better bike in my opinion
I think you missed a big one - the Sting R uses a gearbox over the belt of the Surron. Quieter, more reliable, and no belt changes...
This is true, much quieter and I have to say it definitely gains some torque front the gearbox over the belt primary
the reason it weighs more is the gearbox. however the gearbox is quieter and more powerful than the gear reduction of the surron.
Gearbox, bigger battery, bigger rims + tires, peg brace… it all adds up. Still prefer the weight for both the performance benefits and the stability at speed
hands down the better e moto, only key difference you forgot to mention is the gearbox rather than the belt driven garbage surron has
hi, i'm really looking forward to the suspension tuning video
I was able to do some testing on the trails yesterday, I’ve got part one coming soon that will explain the clickers, and how adjusting them can get your desired result. Part 2 will come out when I get a suspension pump, so I can experiment with different air pressures in the forks/shock
Sick video, love the content. Subscribed. Did you adjust the seat at all? Looks lower to me, not sure if I’m imagining it though
Thank you!!! No I didn’t lower it, but it’s not comfortable. I think I’m going to do the seat riser mod the talaria boys did to lift the front
I’m thinking about saving up for a talaria but I want something that feels like kinda like mtb mixed with dirt bike it’s just gonna take awhile to get the money for it though
That’s definitely what this is. It’s like a cross between a mtn bike and a dirt bike
So you have gone through lunacycle each time?
This was my first experience with them but it has been top notch. I recommend them 100% and if I ever buy another it will be from them no doubt
Does this bike come with a peg brace? 😄
@@rtbt8185 it does 😂
@ haha thanks for the sense of humor. After a year of this vid coming out, do you still choose Talaria? Considering one, the price is low rn
@ I sold my mx4 and I miss it big time. I’m probably going to get another one this summer. The price for what you get is a pretty great value right now. The Altis looks like a beast but it’s still so new. I really like the gearbox instead of the belt that talaria offers. I beat the heck out of my mx4, put 1600 miles on it, raced it on moto tracks, it never let me down
right on. Yeah so many options, but that’s a good thing!
@ yes it is, competition only brings us better bikes and lower prices… hopefully 🤣🤞🏽
How does the talaria compare to the ultra bee?
I haven’t gotten the chance to ride an ultra bee but from what I’ve seen and heard it’s a more off road type bike than the talaria. Little bigger and beefier. Talaria feels like a motorized mountain bike. Very light and flickable. A different kind of fun for me. Ultra bee will feel more like a dirt bike imo
@freer fixed it how long did it take to ship from Luna to NC once you placed order?
Around 11 days or so. I can’t remember
How does the Ultra Bee compare to the MX4?
They do not unfortunately…
Bummer, Okay thanks!
Yeah, the surron has 2 plugs and the talaria is an all in one plug. More convenient design imo, and no problem! Thanks for watching!
Great review good job on explaining the magnet s
Appreciate that!
I just ordered my Telaria from Luna a few days ago. After some extensive research it really is so much more value to get this over the surron.
wise choice my friend! hope it arrives soon!
Great content bro...I'm 6'5 280lbs, do you think I'd be comfortable on the MX4?
I live in Austria and I dont think in my country it is as fast can you give some advice?
they come artificially limited from the factory. There is a brown wire under the cover near the horn. Cut it, and it unlocks the full power of the bike. Check my unboxing video for the location of the wire and what it looks like
