    To add on to this video, one thing I constantly see newer producers ask is "How do I find my style/signature sound?"
    Honestly, don't even worry about it. Just make music that you like to hear. Your style will eventually come to you when you explore sounds and techniques that appeal to you.

    • @TURAMOTH
      @TURAMOTH 3 года назад +9

      totally agree with this. I found a 'sound' per se, by trying to sound like artists I admired. That eventually put me where I am now.

    I get so disheartened sometimes by how hard I try and how little success I have had. I've been on and off producing since 2012 but I have had so many rough patches, dead computers and other life things. I still pick up the mouse when I can but all I have is a Laptop and a pair of decent headphones. I always forget to just have fun with it and not stress over not knowing all the best techniques. To the people just getting into it: I been producing for 10 years and essentially have no real large scale success whatsoever, no major label releases or even interaction or anything. You have to be 100% in it for the love of the music, otherwise there is no point bc realistically not many people will actually make it. If I didn't love doing what I do there is absolutely no way in hell I would still be going and have pushed through years of failures, rejections, lack offulfilling

    Just wanted to say that music school can be beneficial. Some people don't learn well when not in a formal setting or without skin in the game. I personally have learned a lot of things in my time in Music school that stretched me beyond what I would have done if I had only been self taught. At the end of the day though you grow most when you apply things you've learned and spend hours experimenting and exploring. That is with or without school

    A big thing as well is that there is a lot of "informative channels" online that share tips and tricks that don't have a clue what they're talking about. They do it for the money and just push out as many useless tips and tricks as possible to get views. Look for producers you look up to and watch their streams/patreons. My baserule is: if you can't hear if something has changed for the better, don't use that trick! ofc there are exceptions, but this is fine for beginners. I have gotten stuck with dumb habits for years because of instagram/youtube channels like these.

    Hmm, informative...
    I wanna start on Drum & Bass music, but the only one thing I need to learn first is music theory. I tried looking for all info about it, but all seems hard to cram it in my head.
    I do got a running Ableton daw with Vital (best plug-in) and left the community/fanbase just to make them, but I still don't have any idea what I wanna make. Either I make it a genre-switcher like Camellia, DnB like Noisia/Teddy Killerz, or make actual dubstep like Space Laces/Bvssic, I still have no idea how to make & learn all of this.

      @marretjep 3 года назад +2

      DnB is a difficult genre actually, i'd say start with dubstep. It's slower, so a lot of mixing is easier. Music theory beforehand isn't essential, you'll end up using it as an excuse for not diving into a new (daunting) hobby. If you want some learning sources you can hit me up on instagram @mon_stera_music.

    This is a great video that I learnt a lot from. Well done.
    I just have a question to ask:
    When starting out, in terms of DAWs, would you recommend buying the lite/intro version limited to 8 or 16 tracks and including some audio effects, the standard version that allows for more tracks and has all stock audio effects but doesn't include stock synths, or the suite version that includes everything?

    Great tips for improvent! However, could you please put a De-Esser on the audio next time? It kind of hurt my ears... Thanks!

    I went to ICON online. For me, it was a waste of money. They only really care about helping the students that already have talent because they have scouts on site. If you are trying to learn with zero experience, these two are right you can learn way more by experimenting and making mistakes.

      @@Clay787 when I went, it was the same price but 6 months longer. And you are correct, that $500 was supposed to be included but they charged me in addition. I disputed it and showed proof to Aaron, that before commiting, Waseel explicitly told me I wouldn't have to pay extra. He just offered a "sorry" and couldn't care less about making it right. That, combined with lazy "mentors" that would miss multiple sessions, be more concerned about the clock than helping, the basic PowerPoint lessons, notes and Canvas format, $15k could be spent a lot better for someone trying to learn on their own. Sure, if you really want to go to ICON, go in person. The online program is a joke and needs an overhaul if you're going to charge that much

    I think a good video disciple should do would be a producer vocab video going through what all the music terms mean like "sub bass, eq, reverb" and words like that.

    • @DeathNight77
      @DeathNight77 3 года назад +3

      sub bass = the super low end of audio in terms of pitch, stuff that's at the depths of what humans can hear
      eq = the balance of sound
      reverb = echo

I have trouble with my end product (i can never seem to transition my awesome sounding song out of the daw, it always comes out quieter and loses dynamics) it would be sick to get a project file as a reference to learn some mixing/mastering

      Sorry if this is a little late, but if your track comes out quieter, use a limiter along with a saturator plugin so that you can increase the volume without clipping your audio

      You have to also keep in mind though that KOAN Sound is two people and they both most likely have a huge amount of knowledge about mixdowns as well as actual hardware (including instruments). It's very very difficult to even get close to that, especially by yourself. Don't worry about it too much
