Aer Lingus - A330 300 - Business Class - New York (JFK) to Dublin (DUB) | TRIP REPORT

- On April 17, I flew Aer Lingus from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to Dublin Airport. Aer Lingus is the flag carrier airline of Ireland and the second-largest airline in the country after Ryanair. Founded by the Irish government, they were privatized between 2006 and 2015 by IAG (International Airlines Group).
Aer Lingus offers a transatlantic lie-flat business class product from New York aboard an A330. The design of these seats closely resembles JetBlue's "Mint" product. I was quite impressed with the experience, but the only thing I had a problem with was the disrespectful flight attendants who threatened to arrest me for filming.

Because of your age, and people are prejudiced against young people, you're an absolute magnet for Vlogging complainers. May I suggest you get some fancy business cards made up which explains you are a travel vlogger with a well-subscribed channel and you don't show fellow passenger's faces. Hand out these cards to cabin staff (when necessary), and I guarantee it will shut 90% of them up because it shows you were well pre-prepared and enhances the professional image. Aer Lingus looks good too.
I have a good friend who suffered a severe stroke 20 years ago, which unfortunately makes him appear drunk (slurred speech, stumbling walk, a small swaying motion). Bar staff won't serve him, but he has this professional card which basically says he's not drunk and has had a stroke. Works 100% of the time.

@@QFSAviation You might also want to reach out to the airline's social media team via twitter and tell them that you will be on a specific flight and will be doing some filming.
I like that idea! It may save you from hassles in the future from the cabin crew. I still think that the FA spoke to you so rudely because of your age. Don't think she'd be so threatening if you were a well dressed gentleman or lady in their 50's!
Do not contact the media department. They'll make it impossible for you to film

yes ! when i walk my dogs (im on final approach @ ORD ) i can spot the Aer Lingus Shamrock with Green and White Livery immediately-now changed-not so much.
Another great video, Quintin. I think there is a more polite way to convey an airline's policy on filming...I found her quite rude. You, on the other hand, are always polite!
Wow, that flight attendant was so rude. There's a polite way to remind passengers of their policies and she certainly didn't choose that option.

Also, they threatened to have him arrested if he kept filming, but I'm 99% sure there is no laws preventing him to. I would class a plane as a public space, and you are allowed to film in public spaces
Perfectly entitled to instruct you not to film. GDPR regulations in Europe now cover this kind of thing and as EI is a European airline and you were flying to Europe those rules apply. What about all the other passengers who may not want to be broadcast all over RUclips? And if you call that rude you might want to toughen up a bit.

Aer Lingus have the same, it actually states it in the inflight magazing; "You are welcome to take photos or video of guests in your own travelling party for your own personal use however photos or video of airline personnel is strictly prohibited." It seems fair to me.

The prohibition of filming may represent a set back for these companies. How is it possible that they cannot understand the benefits that channels like yours would bring to them? On the other hand you see companies like ANA or Emirates calling some You Tubers to show their new products - and sometimes giving them free tickets for doing so! She literally asked him not to film other people or crew members and then he zooms right up on one of them. Everybody has the right to feel comfortable in their workplace and if that means no filming staff/other passengers then you have to respect that. Id say there would have been no issue of he had have just asked about filming before taking out his camera.
Yea except he wasn’t authorized. How would you like if someone randomly showed up at your place of work and began recording everything? You’d love it if they put it up on RUclips right?

Since we didn't hear the full conversation, it's unfair to dismiss the crew as being rude.

May not be rude for an American airline’s standards, but I expect much better from Ireland’s flag carrier.
That’s not true it was that one foreign flight attendant that was rude if you listened to other conversations and when the pilot was taking they seemed quite nice

Great video, but as a cabin crew myself just note - there is nothing wrong making recordings like that but you need to have permission from Aer Lingus to do so prior to departure otherwise it is prohibited for security reasons of staff and other passengers.
What kind of security concerns could that be ?
Are there probably some Mossad agents on board or are the Irish preparing to lauch an attac against Russia ? Cone on.....

I was very surprised that the cabin crew would go to lengths of threatening you of arrest if you kept filming, normally the Aer Lingus crew are very nice, maybe that one lady had a bad day :D. Great review!

@@QFSAviation You'll like it Q - I found the Irish to be more polite and laid back than most people here in the States. It didn't take long and I could definitely spot fellow Americans from a distance, lol.

What a fantastic video. Love watching your channel. Being originally from Dublin I was very sad to see that the staff in your flight were so horrible to you and this is by no means the usual. We Irish are famous for our friendliness. Keep up the great work and stay safe ☘️. PS. I agree. I hate the new livery and in my opinion the nicest one was in the 80’s with the green tail and white shamrock ☘️
I travelled on Aer Lingus a lot as a child flying from New York to Shannon. There was something so comforting and friendly about the mostly female and entirely Irish flight crew. For an anxious flyer, the old Aer Lingus flight attendants were a welcome sight because their personality put you at ease. A flight to Ireland from New York was full of craic and banter. Now it's as dreary as every other airline. No personality. Many of the flight attendants aren't Irish. The use of the Irish language on the flight has diminished. The friendliness is gone. The airline has become generic.
I fly Aer Lingus quite frequently. The majority of their staff are Irish. Can't really recall not having non-irish flight attendants on board.

Oh once again. You can try Indonesian's airlines. For Full service, you can take Garuda or Batik Air. For Low Cost Carrier, I suggest Citilink and Indonesia Air Asia.

Hiya, I’m sorry about the crew! Remember to fill you feedback form so that the company know what staff aren’t living up to service standards. It was dealt with in an unprofessional way and we always try to show true Irish hospitality onboard as crew but she definitely didn’t.
I've been at JFK airport couple of times when I flew to India. I'm planning to fly to Europe in the future. Very nice trip report though.
Interesting seat lay out (unless my eyesight is playing tricks) but the people in front of have 2 seats together while you have direct aisle access? Malaysia airlines has that configuration on their A330 Business class as well...but perhaps I am wrong? Great to see the Flying Kangaroo on the tarmac !! Great take off roll...no pre departure drinks ? Looked like a great flight and Dublin is one of my favourite cities in the world...great review Q !!! PS Unusual for an Irish crew to be like that (rude) Normally they don't give a stuff about filming etc and are terribly friendly...such a shame!!
I find the Irish to be quite friendly and exceedingly polite in most cases, but they can also be very direct, almost like a parent, which can be interpreted by North Americans as rude. I agree that flight attendant could have handled it much better (especially to a business class passenger, to whom most airlines practically kowtow), but maybe she was having an off day, or maybe she was following the directions of her superiors. Though, as long as you were only recording yourself and not any personnel (until you did lol) or passengers, it does not appear that you were in violation of their rules. I would reach out to the airline and say something along the lines of "hey, this happened, I think it could have been handled better by your staff. I understand the rules regarding filming, etc., but incidents like this do not reflect very well on your airline".

Difference is, Sam is usually invited by the airlines, he is too well known to blend in, every aircrew in the world is trained to recognize him and a few other of the top vloggers to ensure they get the absolute best service.

Sam Chui usually has prior permission or is invited by the airlines so they have already agreed. This video report literally zoomed in on a flight attendant while she serving another passenger, she appeared totally unaware this was happening and that's unacceptable.

Shame how the attendant gave you a hard time about filming. Some people are really sensitive to that. I avoid filming crews but if I were an attendant being filmed, I’d try to look professional so that my company can get video evidence of my hard work. On other airlines the crews will be proud to show off their craft: namely attendants on Qatar Airways who nitpick about every micrometer of food placement among other stuff when they notice people are filming. They want their product to come across as stellar and inviting.
I agree. I don’t think she handled it correctly. She barely even listened to my explanation of what I was doing. By the way is Qatar Airways good?

Cool i departed from terminal 5 a few months ago to go to from new york to orlando florida and back using the same airline. Jetblue! Their good just delays sucks!

I flew on Aer Lingus between JFK and SNN way back in February of 2001! At that time the JFK Terminal was very dark and dank! zMore like a Bus Terminal! We rode on an A-330. Full boat 🚢⛵! Arrived SNN at 0:700am local.

Great video and flight review, having been cabin crew myself I think the way you were spoken to was very rude, wording and delivery can be taken so differently by people, very well handled.
13:45 I've been there. That's The Milwaukee Irish Fest that happens in August. I've gone there 3 times by taking Amtrak from Chicago to Milwaukee on The Amtrak Hiawatha. I mostly go there being not only I have Irish Blood in me but my favorite Irish Folk Group The High Kings go there. And yes I've met them it was a dream come true meeting one of them Finbarr Clancy the son of Bobby Clancy one of the famous Clancy Brothers.

Overall I have never flown on here. But I hope to fly on Aer Lingus Soon! Now I know their service is pretty cool! Ima go to da lounge boi.

The crew member wasn’t being rude, she wanted to know why he was filming, and said you can’t film the crew, nothing wrong with that, as crew myself I would have asked the same questions. Great vid by the way.
Don't care, she came off rude and very combative. That alone would be a turn off for me flying with a shitty crew. If you agree with her actions, I'd like to know what airline you are employed by so I can avoid it.

I am legally blind and therefore need help getting to my seat and restroom, please tell me if you feel this airline would be a benefit for me to travel with. I've flown several American based airlines, and unfortunately, one has accommodated and offered to assist me and I find that so sad as I will never book with them again. Delta took very good care of me in every aspect. These professionals seem to have that same mentality. Thanks for the video! Often it is a fearful thing to fly when you can't see and have to place your trust in strangers hands, so I'd appreciate any feedback, thanks again!
Your flight arrived in Dublin very early in the morning-So was it a pity that you couldn't see the beautiful Irish countryside from your window?(even just before landing as your flight was coming eastwards from New York and not westwards from London)
A very nice video from the beginning to arriving in Dublin, Ireland, Europe. Thank you for sharing this with all of us "RUclipsrs". Did you think about writing a nice letter regarding the fact that you paid a higher price for the flight and the lounge at Kennedy Airport was very mediocre with the meals and even the look of it all. Did you fly back on Aer Lingus or you had a flight to catch for somewhere else in the European continent? The airline is so prim and proper and so modern and clean and efficient generally speaking. It seemed you had a great flight, with great food and comfort at 35,000 feet in the sky. How was the head phones they looked a little bit on the cheap quality side to me. The IFE did not look so great either. All the best young man. Keep making great videos with nice music relaxing not overpowering and describing everything without having to talk.
