Foynes was (briefly) the first stopover for transatlantic passenger flying-boats as they hopped from East-Coast USA to Gandar, Foynes. They'd then be bussed via Limerick City to the new Shannon Airport in Clare to continue their journey to European cities. As flying-boats were replaced by Constellations and Super Constellations before and after WW2, Shannon found its purpose as a stopover under threat - airliners were able to skip it. Hi Sam, thank you for another wonderful video. I just want to share a few quick thoughts about single-aisle planes on transatlantic flights. First, for those of us who are old enough, there was a time when all transatlantic flights were on narrow-bodies, simply because there were no wide-bodies (before the introduction of the 747 in 1969/1970). More recently, of course, airlines have been flying "long-thin" routes using the 757 and, in fact, the 321 LR & XLR are recognized as the successors to the 757. Finally, regarding the experience, I think there are pros and cons to both types of planes and while I have always loved the really big planes (747 & A380) I think we can all agree that there is little worse than being stuck in a middle seat in economy on a totally full 747 or A380.
That’s cool, I flew air lingus, economy to Dublin the other day and it was only an hour long flight. And we got stuck in a huge rainstorm and had to run to the hotel
Welcome to my beautiful city of Toronto Sam enjoy your stay here !! I enjoy all your videos you bring us from world of aviation keep up the good work buddy 👍
I recently flew Aer Lingus business class from Dublin to Newark, it was an amazing experience, especially for the first time flying.. Already can’t wait to board an Aer Lingus flight again soon
Enjoyed this video with the old shots of previous Aer Lingus planes. My first transatlantic trip in 1980 was on that lovely Aer Lingus early version of the 747 shown in your video, the 100 with 3 upper deck windows. Sitting near the bulkhead about 2 or 3 rows back, there was still a very spacious feel on board. Their Airbus A330’s maintained that feeling of space and for that they remained my favourite way to cross the Atlantic from Ireland, better than the Continental 757 crossing I used several times from Belfast for convenience. All other things being equal I’d still opt for a wide body across the Atlantic any day.

Wardair, I once flew on a 747 with my parents to Hawaii from YYC. I had never been on such a huge airplane. It was a very good time. It’s too bad the planes are being phased out. Safe travels, Sam.
Hi Sam, thanks again for being the world's premier passenger. I don't like the trend of trans-atlantic flights feeling like domestic transcontiental flights. There is lots to enjoy on the twin-body aircraft. I still love your first video receiving a coconut on dry-ice aboard a Singapore Airlines A380. Cheers...
Glad to see you enjoyed your flight! I flew IAD-DUB on an Aer Lingus A321 in business in Jan 2022 and it was great, a narrowbody aircraft doesn’t make any difference to a wide body in my opinion in business class, I haven’t on flown them transatlantic in economy so it may be different back there but if narrowbodies mean enabling flights to smaller airports to make them viable then I say bring it on!
Wardair was the best airline my country had. A flight to Hawaii and the B747 as a child was such a memorable experience! Even economy got their meal on Royal Doulton china.

I'm facing a transatlantic Dublin - New York flight with Aer Lingus in a couple of weeks - sadly, I've never been able to afford a seat upgrade, so I'll be jammed in Economy with everyone else (which I'm a bit nervous about, as the pandemic continues and I'm vulnerable, but anyway). AL is seen as slightly more expensive than other similar airlines, but I was happy to choose to pay a little more to support our national airline, which is normally very good, and as a simple tribute to a late aunt, Eva, who was a very glam Aer Lingus stewardess back in the Sixties. Just really hoping there'll be nobody beside me in the two-seater rows I strategically picked for my flights near the back of the planes, ha!

AerLingus always sounds like something naughty you do while flying. On the other hand, I've never had a bad experience of AerLingus. Even got a surprise 'Your a bit tall, the exit seats are free, would you like an upgrade' FOC the last time I flew, which meant I had the unusual experience of having a place to put my feet which is something I've never had in a plane.
doesn't matter wide body or narrow body when your in biz class, the 707 and dc8 narrow bodies flew these routes for decades, and the 321 is wider then the 707
@@charlesanzalone5846 It does matter, maybe not for you, but for many it does. Not feeling claustrophobic plays a big role, the more spacious cabin just gives a better experience for me and many others. Bigger planes are also more stable and the air pressure inside modern widebodies is better optimized.
Excellent video, as usual! Looked like an excellent flight. That A321LR is a wonderful aircraft. The catering onboard looks superb as well. I only flew Aer Lingus once, from Amsterdam to Cork. But even during that short flight, back in 2006, I got a good idea of the wonderful hospitality provided on board. Even their BOB was fresh and tasty. Hope one day to fly with them again!
I actually quite like the narrow bodied planes. And I LOVE Aer Lingus. Excellent airline, very comfortable for not JUST those seated up front! Also, you just didn't spend enough time in Ireland. You need more time for it!

Stop lying all you people always be making up these story’s!
AerLingus always sounds like something naughty you do while flying. On the other hand, I've never had a bad experience of AerLingus. Even got a surprise 'Your a bit tall, the exit seats are free, would you like an upgrade' FOC the last time I flew, which meant I had the unusual experience of having a place to put my feet which is something I've never had in a plane.
doesn't matter wide body or narrow body when your in biz class, the 707 and dc8 narrow bodies flew these routes for decades, and the 321 is wider then the 707
it's the economy seating I'm sure is cramped
@@charlesanzalone5846 It does matter, maybe not for you, but for many it does. Not feeling claustrophobic plays a big role, the more spacious cabin just gives a better experience for me and many others. Bigger planes are also more stable and the air pressure inside modern widebodies is better optimized.
Air Transat flew a A321LR non stop from Montreal Canada to Athens Greece ... Even a longer flight! ... Very impressive.
Glad u enjoyed Ireland, greetings from Ireland
i love aer lingus i always fly with them since i live in dublin, they’re always really nice and i’m flying to faro a330 business class in june ha
Welcome to Ireland glad you had good weather.
Soon 3 million
Nice! I agree about that blocked view at Dublin Airport. Otherwise, what a great place to watch the planes. At minute 1:00, though, you flash up a four-leaf clover, but the symbol of Ireland is a three-leaf shamrock! :)
The blocked view was London not Dublin.
@@murpho999 Indeed it was! Thank you. :)
300 days of year of sunshine I lived in Island for four years and it rains every week is about 200 days of rain every year
So glad u reviewed my country's airline. They have just reopened flights back up again to LAX since before covid.
To be frank...out of everything, I Like Sam gel packed hairstyle!!! Good luck
