      @@ChiSoxRox2005 I don't really consider a six to eight hour drive a short hop, and whilst we do have trains, Ireland's train system is actually awful. There's very few lines, they don't meet in Dublin, are extremely expensive and so congested that the NTA's official suggestion is 'Stagger coming in to work'.

      I landed at Dublin Airport just as the Irish soccer team were returning from Italia '90. There were thousands of people at the airport - they hadn't won, but did far better than anyone had expected, and so returned to a hero's welcome. The Aer Lingus pilot joked 'Ah, you're really popular people, they're here just for you.'

    Saoirse Ronan was actually one of the most comfortable/natural hosts I've ever seen. So many hosts, even comedic actors, just don't flow well when it comes to live skits. She seemed like she could have been one of the cast members

    As an 8 year old flying Aer Lingus in the late 90s, I can confirm there were a lot of Aer Lingus jokes from drunk American passengers about what it sounds like. Enough to make me look down from the overhead bins and ask "Mum, what's that word mean?"

    The fact that SNL parodied the main airliner of Ireland is just amazing. I fly with Aer Lingus nearly every year and my experience is always good. Also great Irish accents, they seem almost real, I can tell!

    I've flown Are Lingus a few times and it's a terrific airline. I flew coach and had requested a seafood meal. It turned out none was arranged so they went to first class and brought me a huge plate of salmon (not potatoes). In fact the plate was too big to fit on the tray table. Of course everyone around me wanted to kill me.

      Depends on what sort of dogs, though. Nothing but terriers, most hounds, and mid-to-small sized dogs, grand! But once you start bringing Great Danes and the other large breeds, then things would a bit less enjoyable.

      Update:AER LINGUS IS NO LONGER PET FRIENDLY! Seriously! As of 2022 they only allow official service animals aboard the flight. I'm totally crushed. 💔 Maybe they saw this scene and decided they needed an image change lmao

    I flew Aer Lingus for the first time last year, and it immediately became my favorite airline; flight attendants were one of the reasons. And the Dublin airport was way less stressful than Heathrow.

      To the best of my knowledge New York flights only land and leave from Dublin airport, never Cork because its too small. I believe they go to Boston though.

      The only culture it's still ok to spoof on is the Irish apparently, and there's really not that much even there to joke about. There's not a whole lot of creativity in the sketches on this show at all anymore. The pre-taped segments are still good, but the skits tend to be pretty hacky

      Not just the plane, these SEATS are gigantic like couches. They're actually like half the size with arm rests that don't go up all the way. It makes it impossible to sleep on a row of empty seats.

    I think one of the writers thought “how can I put a ton of dogs in one sketch?” and another thought “I really want to make a great sequel to our Colonel Angus sketch.” and they made both sketches threw ‘em together for time’s sake.
