Hey bro, I know that the key was available in 2017 but not sure if it came standard with the car. In 2021 it was given standard with all the 5 series models . 2017 could be a paid service.

Yes , the car can be started using the remote key and even moved forward and backwards from outside using the remote key. I have made a demo video of how to do use the remote parking . Please watch it bro to know more if you are interested .
How long does it take to charge the display key with a micro-usb-cable if it is completely dead?
It takes almost 3 hours to get from 0 to 100%
How about a 2013 BMW and should it have to be a Series 5 Model to come with a display key?
I think bmw introduced the display key for the 7 series in 2015 and later was given with many other models and their availability however varies depending on the country. In India it was given with 5 series and above . After market version should be available though.

It should. They were giving it with the 5 , 6, 7 and also the SUVs. But looks like they have stopped it now. It was there two years back. When did you buy yours?
How different is preconditioning from air conditioning?
Preconditioning using the display key enables us to set the temperature inside the cabin remotely before we get in the car . This is useful when we have parked the car under the sun for long.

Not a deal breaker at all bro. The preconditioning might come in handy for some . Remote parking in tight spaces will be useful in the rarest of the rarest scenarios. So yeah just another device.
