    It actually took a lot of practice in my Xeros and barefooted to learn to relax. But once you learn this, it's so much easier running barefooted.

    How is building up slowly not the same thing as strengthening?

    • @stevensashen6956
      @stevensashen6956 5 лет назад +12

      You're right. Building up slowly IS a way to strengthen. The distinction I'm trying to make is that no amount of non-running strengthening will totally prepare you for running.

    I've been "trying to run with minimalist" and always had lower back and calf pain.I finally figured out "in my opinion" the issue. My calves were supee tight, I've been using a slant board to stretch my calves (both soleus and gastoc muscles) 3 minutes each. I'm also building up slowing in distance. Just bought my first pair of xero hfs shoes so I can casually wear minimist shoes and run in them.

    @xeroshoes Thanks for addressing achilles. My situation ... Wearing Xero shoes since you were "Invisible Shoes" ;) Never had issues, however I also use a mini trampoline daily, at my standing desk, while I work for the past 2 yrs. I noticed soreness in my achilles by my heel. Consistent pain there. Then played a serious game of basketball for 2 hours and was in crazy pain. Since then, 2 months ago, I've been getting therapy which is helping -- however, of course, my doctor said Xero Shoes idea is probably not good for me since it caused issues. However, would you say that's likely not the case (without 'giving me medical advice')

    Bought some Xero HFS shoes..love how they feel. Im not a runner so only looking for walking tips. I hurt my Achilles a few weeks back since I most likely did too much too soon for walking. Since then, I am conciously walking with short stride feet under hips...should I be pushing off while walking? Running is a no, but walking is different

    Have a serious forefoot blister that won't go away, will running in minimalist sandals help ? Thanks Peter

      It depends on what's causing the blister. But you may find these useful:

    What about if you have ankle pronation ?

    • @xeroshoes
      @xeroshoes  2 года назад +2

      A couple points:
      The research is VERY clear that except in extreme circumstances, there is no connection between pronation and injuries. In fact, footwear expert Simon Bartold *used* to recommend anti-pronation tools, but after investigating the research, he no longer does and he recognizes that pronation is a natural part of the spring-like mechanism of the leg.
      If you are running with proper form -- namely landing with your foot under your body, typically flat footed or mid-foot or forefoot landing, not only is some pronation natural, but it's HARD to even make happen.
      The problem is with elevated heel, padded shoes, where you land on your heel with your foot out in front of your body... since the heel is a ball, there's no way to control your foot. And if the shoe has a flared sole, that can lead to HYPER-pronation, which isn't ideal.
      I hope that helps.

      @@xeroshoes I’m probably an extreme circumstance then because my knees got wrecked from just walking around with pronation. Kneesovertoesguy (I’m sure you’re aware of him) saved my knees so they’re no longer pain but my ankles still feel weak and like they just flop around.

    • @xeroshoes
      @xeroshoes  2 года назад +3

      The only way to build strength is by using your body. Research shows that just walking in shoes like Xero Shoes builds strength as much as doing a foot exercise program.
      BTW, if you watch Ben's videos, he's usually wearing Xero Shoes :-)

      @@xeroshoes Yeah I have a few pairs and even bought the same ones he does. I’m doing a strengthening program as well as using xero shoes and I’ve noticed an insane difference. I can actually plant my big toe now. I started “walking properly” using the hip lifting method that was described in another video and came home from work without splitting ankle pain. Now I just need to start actually barefoot walking.
