I do believe Frank Sinatra is better, even Bing said so, but he was a huge influence for Sinatra. He IS certainly the first super star in american popular music and what a voice, damn he was good. Or he is I should say.
Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney’. Two of THE greatest singers ever, together. I love love love the song “Counting my blessings” . People of today would do well to take that song to heart. Even though I was just a kid when Bing died I felt like I had lost a family member.
My God what a smooth, exquisite and elegant voice. I simply love Bing Crosby's music🎶 and movies 🎥. His legacy will only get better with time. He was an amazing man with an amazing voice and I miss him. If you have never heard him sing the song called Christmas Is, you have missed out on a gorgeous gem song sung by him. It is absolutely beautiful! 💝💝💝💝
My viewpoint is this: I love his voice and his performances. Extremely talented and versatile. He does seem to be very humble. Another huge plus. You want to like him. Seems like someone who would be a very loyal pal. Do I idolize the man? No. He was flawed as we all are. There is only one who walked the earth in perfection. Jesus.
What a fantastic bit of history to learn about tape recorder’s. This was a wonderful documentary. Some of it I knew, and some real surprises. Great job! God, Bless Bing.
Great look at a legendary person/entertainer...as they say..."They do not make them like that anymore'. I have an extensive 78 record collection and have many, many of Bing's recordings, going back to the Paul Whiteman/Rhythm Boys period, the Brunswick years, on to his classic Decca releases...his style was always "there"! What passes for "Pop singing, rather off-tune droning or screaming" cannot compare to the classic vocalizing of the 1930-1950 period. These artists live on at the flick of a switch, or today, the touch of an I-Pad! Or in my case, the lowering of a tone arm!
Bing was simply the best and deserves his place amongst the greatest of the entertainment world. Great looking man in his day as well. Those gorgeous eyes and that liquid gold voice, heaven.
Bing was not a bad father He was a father of his time. We clearly see throughout his life he continually learned from his mistakes and worked to better himself. Which is more than many of us can say. It angers me when we see those who take a perverted joy in bringing others down. Those who work furiously to hurt the reputation of others. Anyone with a lick of common sense would never assume Bing was a perfect human being. He went out of his way in interviews to tell people he wasn’t perfect and that he was just human. He was always self deprecating. While happy to be acknowledged for his talents he wasn’t comfortable with being put on that kind of petal stool as a “man”. And really , who would want the kind of pressure that comes along with being seen as some kind of saint. One of the biggest problems was that his sons with Dixie more than likely all suffered some form of fetal alcohol syndrome. And of course no one in those days knew what that was let alone how to deal with it.
As I agree with some of your opinion, some of the parents of the time were just that but that doesn’t change the fact it still effected his children emotionally.
So you don't want the memory of Bing tarnished, but you don't mind throwing Dixie under the bus. Interesting. Fact is, she wasn't drinking heavily enough to have damaged her first born with fetal alcohol syndrome. As for the other two, it's hard to say if they were damaged by FAS or not, so I wouldn't be so quick to make that accusation.
@williamanthony9090 Lol. " she wasn't drinking heavily enough to have damaged her first born" So tell us you don't understand FAS without telling us you don't understand FAS. Wow just wow... I don't think I need to comment further as your response is down right ridiculous

Lastly. Bing was a great humanitarian. There are many many many stories from people who were suffering and down on their luck when Bing would seek them out to lend them a hand. Some were celebrities snd others were just everyday regular people. Bing never told anyone about those he helped. He wasn’t looking for acknowledgment or praise. Quite the opposite. He wanted it kept on the down low. It’s only after his death where we see so many come forward with stories of how Bing helped them. Rosemary Clooney being one of them.
What a treat. I have heard that Al Bowley was also featured in "King of Jazz" but was cut. I would love to hear more detail of that and wonder if any of his work survives somewhere in the archives,
They say no one was singing the way he did in the jazzy 1931 song. Louis Armstrong sure was. With his incredible musicality, Bing could assimilate the style and make it his own, but he didn't do much of that kind of singing.
Crosby was and will forever be remembered as a fantastic singer but Sinatra whatever his start or personal life was and is a step above.Crosby had his own personal problems like millions in this world but like every other star no one knows the real truth or know but will never fully tell all. Both men deserve the title legends which without a doubt they were so let them rest in peace safe in the knowledge they made millions upon millions lives just a little better for they being here in this world.
I heard, also, that he was an awful father in his first marriage, 2 suicides. Heard stories years ago. Oh, and then he gets to start a whole new life. New wife and family. How wonderful for him!
Of course, how did Frank Sinatra, Jr. do? Those with the Crosby name never could live up to what their Dad accomplished, and many just couldn't deal with it, except alcohol or drugs.......and unfortunately, suicide, sadly, is seen as a solution. Bing did NOT want his kids to become "Hollywood Kids." Spoiled rotten, crash a new car, and get another one. No responsibilities, so Bing bought a ranch in Elko, Nevada, and during the summer when the Hollywood kids would be idle and roaming with Daddy's money, the Crosby boys would get post-hold diggers and help build fences, tend to horses, and work......and of course had a nice place, food, etc......BUT, they were envious of their friends demolishing cars and getting new ones with nothing else to do. Bing had moved their home from Hollywood to Hillsborough, in Northern California, to be away from Hollywood.......One more point: Bing was from a strict Catholic family and born in 1903, over a century ago. In those times, for discipline, naughty children were spanked. So, spanking children for discipline was nothing out of the ordinary at all.........and, imagine yourself in SO MUCH DEMAND: At one time when the boys were small, Bing was #1 in records, radio, movies, WWII Bond Shows, traveling the world for our troops. When Bing returned from Europe or shooting a movie, etc.... a long list of the boys' transgressions were compiled by the Butler, and when Bing got home, he had to be the disciplined, so it was left to Bing, in that Bing's wife, Dixie, had become an incorrigible alcoholic. So, Bing's boys recalled HIM as the ""enforcer" and kept them from cavorting and playing all summer, making them work, unlike their Hollywood friends, and so all of this combined with Bing growing up with a disciplinarian Mother, and later an alcoholic wife, it is not unpredictable that later if a son wrote a book, that it would be peppered with "negative" references. Taken in context, I understand--you or someone else might not, but in context, Gary was bitter, I'm sure. Even though, as you likely don't know, Bing had "The Crosby Boys" as they were billed, got them on his TV shows, specials, and promoted them incessantly, but still, how could a Crosby son EVER live up to what Bing accomplished--#1 SuperStar in an age when there were few Superstars. Later, Bing's family members all said, that "Going My Own Way," Gary Crosby's book from which much of the public seems to not understand, but where folks like you get alot of their information, that Mary Francis and Nathaniel all said, that Gary was encouraged to "spice up" the "tell-all" book, to make it more "sellable." Obviously, he made alot of money on the book, but alcoholism and multiple divorces troubled Gary--also, the pressure of never matching up to his famous Father. Just hoped to give you a background, on your assertions.
