I first dined at Au Pied de Cochon more than 45 years ago. A light meal of seafood and French onion soup was memorable. I have returned many times and feel a sense of contentment. Years later, Saveur magazine published Au Pied's recipe for French onion soup. Merci. ❤

We went last summer. Perfect lunch of chilled zucchini soup and grilled fish. The soup was so perfect I have pretty much copied it at home to great acclaim from friends. Saute some onion and the flesh of the zucchini (avoid green watery seeds) puréed with chicken stock, cream and some basil. Season to taste. A keeper.

My grandparents went there when the restaurant was pretty new. They brought a menu back with them when they returned home, and that menu is hanging in my kitchen. There are more items on the menu now, but they have stayed true to the design over the years. And the picture that is now at the front of the menu is the same one that is emblazoned across the top of my version.

When I lived the Paris life many decades ago, we used to go to the Pied de cochon after going clubbing. At 5 a clock in the morning, a robust pig trotter breaded and grilled, with a bearnaise sauce and French fries, delicious. Fighting with it as it gets cold (34 bones to chew on! as it says on the table mats), your fingers sticky with collagene as it is full of it, no fat, just incredible!!

New subscriber here from Ecosse! Loved this video and am looking forward to checking out your back catalogue. Visited Paris once, five years ago, and stayed le vingtieme arrondissement. Absolutely loved it, and will probably return within the coming year. What I’d like to know is if the Pied de Cochon has decent vegetarian options. My wife is vegetarian, so it’s important for us. Actually, can you recommend any restaurants in Paris which have a good selection of vegetarian dishes. Thank you.

If you're in Paris, my advise here is to take the Eric Ospital plates; it is his own recettes (it seems being from the Pays Basque). You have to know that there's many chef turn over in Paris, they came from regional France or foreign countries (Italy, etc.) today 'Au Pied de Cochon" seems to have a Basque allure with its chef. This is the occasion to taste Basque cuisine.
