That's why emulation is better cause when the Wii shop is gone you can still play these games
Sonic on the master system is the as the gg version, right?
You can download WADs and install
Jeff Stinnett you can still install wii shop games without the wii shop itll just be in a form of a wad file
PAL owners beware! In our region, many of the Virtual Console games listed are based on the inferior, slower PAL version. It might not be a deal breaker for you, but it's something you should be aware of before you rush and buy.
THIS---and THIS should be hearted and maybe evened pinned...
In the PAL version of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood they speak german :-p
mind blown!
Eh, mostly early PAL games that are slowed down. Most big later games are modified to be as speedy (but the screen is smaller).
50hz is a bitch. But hey that's wad NTSC to PAL Wad converters are for
No Greendog?! What a missed opportunity :´(
MrRaivokasMagma yeah
Try can be quite violent when you bring up Greendog.
GRREEEENDAWG
I'd recommend Muscle March since it's not mentioned much, it's more of a minigame but it was the first game I bought on the Wii, it's exclusive, it requires motion controls and it's a very "distinct" piece of work which when it comes to preserving unique games and their experiences qualifies it as a must have in my opinion.
I wish I were a manly badass anime hero
: /
"Shinobi may just be the most iconic game on Sega's System 16 arcade hardware." How dare you, sir.
I'd take Revenge of and Shinobi 3 over the Sonic games though I do enjoy them too surely. But yeah the Shinobi games amongst other classics are unappreciated in this modern era.
I totally agree
@Rafa7034 I know you didnt really ask lol, but my top 10 favorite Gen games are...
1. Shinobi 3 and downward from here...
SoR2
Alien Soldier
Thunder Force IV
Shining Force 1&2
Revenge of Shinobi
S3&K
Phantasy Star IV
Fire Shark and Musha
Beyond Oasis
(And a huge army of honorable mentions).
So yeah Sonics great but it'd be nice if other Gen games could get more highlight too.
Man this might've been your biggest collab project to date, and a major undertaking too! Great job once again!
I still keep my Wii around for emulating the last couple consoles I haven't RGB modded yet. RetroArch with every proper aspect ratio, meticulously set, looks amazing on Sony CRT via component video.
Hey guys- I was wondering if you ever felt interested in making a video about ways of playing arcade games at home? Of course MAME would be many people's first thought, but I know that you guys and I are both interested in playing games on original hardware. A video from you guys that looks into the world of superguns, candy cabinets, and collecting arcade PCBs would be massively appreciated. Thanks for all the great videos!
I like this idea
Yeh excellent as I'm in the same boat. My main idea for nostalgia is literally a tall 2 player cabinet, retro pie, all the arcade games and this sits in my garage. So this is Step 1. Next setup would in my cozy games room so i can sit back and play it on big HDTV with a game controller OR optional arcade stick setup. This will be handy also for future online SF2 anniversary release. And then i alternate between both 'Arcade' experiences on how i feel ...
Gonna miss the Wii Shop :( R.I.P
The homebrew channel has your back
And the Oscar goes to.... Joe Redifer!
😂, how lucky are we that both channels are still going half a decade later? Although I do miss Dave.
Thank god for the Homebrew channel and wad files! I got quite a lot from the VC back in the day but since lost it all in the shutdown and loss of my original system. Thankfully the community is there to get our treasured VC downloads back :D
I can't believe you left out La Mulana, that's the number one game everyone should get before the service ends
The Art.Style series is phenomenal too. And that's going to be a Nintendo exclusive at the very least. (C'mon... release a compilation for the Switch!!)
Being on other platforms means that it isn't an emergency to get it here. Actually probably worse to get it here since you'll lose redownload privileges shortly. Though I guess by that metric though Mega Man 9 shouldn't have been mentioned either.
... PsVita!!!
Oh my...a long look at and celebration of the Wii Shop Channel's life? Amazing.
LOVE THIS VIDEO SUBJECT the wiishop was indeed home to many wonderful experiences, first time ever I've played Super Metroid and Rondo of Blood, for example
I actually went through this weekend and bought about $100 of turbo grafix games. Thanks for making this video!
ChrisXCross64 hope you got street fighter 2.... Best turbo graphix game on wii vc
Oh I love Joe from GameSack, he’s so freaking funny. Love GREENDAWWWWG!
1hour episode?! Hell Yeah! Where is my popcorn? Thank you guys. My favourite RUclips channel by far !
Another really informative video, really great, almost half way through it at the moment and I love it. Thanks
My boyfriend and I added quite a few points to our Wii yesterday to download some of these games. Thanks for the great video! Keep up the good work. :)
thank you guys very much for this, you and your collaborators. all the hard work paid off; this was an awesome chronicle of the Wii Shop Channel. i already would grow sadly nostalgic any time i logged onto it after Nintendo effectively abandoned it, and now i will really feel it going on there for these last few purchases. I'm glad i had already bought some of the recommendations here (S&P, Doremi), but what remains for me to buy (mainly titles for which physical copies are annoying to obtain) will be a pretty hefty sum, so I'll be trimming down my selection this next week. thanks a lot for the heads up, i had no idea Nintendo was taking it all down for good. really appreciate this channel and its high quality content. God bless you guys
This is the video i needed. Ive made a list of games i need to buy before the 26th and this video will help me make sure I didn’t miss anything important.
So much Sega love in this video. Love it!
thx for this, I've been looking for something like this for a long time! Well made, loved the guests (esp. Erin!) and I noted several games for me to try.
Man that intro beat is so dope. Thanks for the constant and high quality videos you guys release. Keep up the great work!
Oooooh man, as soon as the tune from the shop started playing it took me back. I love the way the shop sounds! I know it's crazy but Nintendo really nailed the feel of the place down perfectly.
GREENDAWG!
I am constantly impressed by the production level of y'all's videos. I've only been subbed for about six months now, but I am so grateful that I stumbled upon y'all's channel.
Of course My Life in Gaming is here to save the day. I have been scouring the internet recently for any lists or videos of games you need to get before the Wii Shop closes and I have had no luck, until now. Thank you guys so much!!! I wish I could like this video multiple times.
Gate of Thunder rules and I love the disc it came on for the US TG16, with Bonk and Bonk's Revenge included, plus hidden Bomberman!
I'm so happy to see a recommendation for Bio-Miracle Baby Upa. It is one of my absolute favorite famicom-exclusive games. It's always a fun casual challenge. and it has a wonderfully bubbly classic Konami soundtrack. References to Upa show up in other konami games like the satirical shmup "Parodius" and the arcade rhythm game "pop'n music"!
DoReMi Fantasy looks really cool and has been something I've wanted to play for a while now. Wonder Boy looks pretty interesting, too... and I never even knew about the "Rebirth" line of games! Thanks!
What a cool video with so many crossovers from other channels. I hope to see more specials like this in the future!
What a brilliant video guys.
Big thanks to everyone involved - great guests, great games and great presentation to the whole video.
Once again, you guys have out done yourself on this.
This is a really well put together tribute. Thanks everybody, very well done
Thanks, guys... you cost me over one hundred dollars in panic buying! :D
I have the Wii VC to thank for getting me into the TurboGrafx-16, which has since become my 3rd favourite game system, right behind the SNES and the GBA
34:39 "Surprisingly good" music? Seriously though, it would be surprising if it *wasn't* good, remember, it's Bomberman we're talking about here, that series is pretty much synonymous with good music, Especially on the N64...
Agreed, there's really nothing surprising about a Bomberman OST being good. I discovered the soundtrack to Bomberman Hero 2 or 3 years ago, a good friend of mine recommended it to me in a VGM discussion we had, she insisted that I listen to the whole thing and that I wouldn't be disappointed. Boy was she right... it's an incredible work
I'm telling ya, Jun Chikuma is a genius composer!
No doubt!
The downside to games that are digital only once there gone that's it.Though with a wii the homebrew channel can be put out on it.Which opens it up to nes,genesis,snes,TG16 emulators.
True, although they've all been backed up already and you can install them on your Wii also with the homebrew channel...
Also, yeah, emulation on the Wii is awesome! I'm especially fond of the Wii version of RetroArch, which lets you pick the exact resolution you want your games to display at, pair that with a CRT TV and you have just about the best/most-authentic-looking version of whichever game you're playing outside of real hardware~
Such amazing production values and in-depth content, incredible as always guys.
This is one of most worthwhile videos I've seen...EVER! Seriously, thank you!!!
I am surprised Doc Louis Punchout did not get more face time. You had to be in Club Nintendo to get that bad boy.
KWKBOX I got a code on eBay about a year ago for just a couple bucks...
Sip of coffee for Bithead1000, this video was great guys. Love the guest recommendations
Thanks for making this video. The Nintendo Wii is my mos favorite game console of all time, and it's nice to see videos that talk about it and make justice to its legacy
Wow! What an amazing episode. You guys outdid yourselves. I really enjoyed this. Thanks
Do yourself a favor and give the Bomberman Hero soundtrack a listen, it's bangin
It really is. I think I listened to that more than playing the actual game back in the day.
it’s a cult classic in the drum n bass world, attachment to a video game or not
Mega Man 9 and 10 are two I would recommend getting, nice to see you have them featured in your lineup
Retro Game Players at least those two are on physical via the legacy collection 2 on ps4/Xbox1.
Those are 2 are even available through the Xbox Game Pass, so I'm good with those. Though, I guess I miss out on better suited controllers
+Airsh Bornely the wiimote really isn't a more suitable controller unless you have really tiny hands
Castlevania Adventure Rebirth is awesome too
I was referring to the NES Mini controller. (Which I'm pretty sure is hard to get)
Love your guys' videos. Interesting topics, well-edited, and charming hosts! Keep it up!
Man, this episode was chock full of content. Reminds me that there are still a lot of games I need to put some time into, like the Wonder Boy/Monster World series.
Try is an absolute tyrant! I'm gonna call him Tryrant!
"GREEN DAWWWWWWWWGGG!!!!!!"
Real tears!
Why no green dog? Even if it wasn't on VC..we needed it!
Leave Joe the hell alone, Tryrant!
F U C K H I M U P !!!!!
This was such a great overview on the Wii Virtual Console and thanks SO much for letting me be a part of it! This was such a great way for people to be exposed to systems and games they have missed, so I’m sad to see it go.
I was pumped to see you in this video and your choice Blue's Journey looks right up my alley. I am definitely going to have to check it out! 😀
YamaAgni yay! I’m glad :)
It was such a cool surprise seeing you here; congrats! Blue's Journey is a great choice, too!
Got The Wii (white color, bundled with Wii Sports & Wii Sports Resort, and is one of those early models which are fully backward-compatible with all GameCube games & most accessories) in 2012, but have never used it, still sitting in the box. No more room to put out consoles by my TV. I did buy a few more games for the system plus some more Wii Remote Plus controllers and some Nunchuks for it too. Whenever I start playing this system, now I won't have the chance to try out The Nintendo Wii Shop sadly. Never bought The Wii U either or the Nintendo Switch. So leery with the whole motion control scheme format to play.
What a great birthday gift to me - thanks for the video! ^_^ Love all the guest recommendations you got for this .. Reminded me to finally pick up some of these titles!
I honestly never realized just how dense the Wii shop channel was. I have a modded Wii U, so I suppose I could get the WADs online once the shop goes down. But this does give me hope for the future of VC on the Switch. I just got my Switch yesterday and I can already see the massive appeal of having this kind of retro library readily available on the go. Hopefully we'll hear some good news from Nintendo very soon about what the future of their online services are going to look like.
Thanks for the awesome showcase guys!
I love your channel thank you for making great content
GREEEEEEEEENDOOOOOOG
The Midas King of the retro!! You did it again, anything you touch it becomes gold!! Thanks for that excellent review of wii adapted titles to purchase inmediately before "all those games will be lost in time, like tears... in... rain. Time to play"
Nice overview, thx! Joe’s guest appearance kills 😂
Your videos are relaxing...
Wonder Boy 5 Monster World 3 Manchester 0
Massive props for roping in some of my other favorites like AntDude and SSFF. This made for an awesome surprise!
I've been looking forward to this episode ever since you mentioned it on stream! So excited. :D
RIP The ability to add Wii Points.
I gave you a thumbs up for Game Sack's great acting.
BASIL!!
Shhhh... i'm undercover.
Another great video!
I totally forgot that the Wii shop was closing down. I got a Nintendo Wii about a year ago but been having issues connecting to the Internet with error after error popping up. I really didn’t have time to fix the problem but after watching this video and the 23rd right around the corner I went ahead and fixed the problem. I’m definitely going to be purchasing a few games before the 23rd. I wish you guys would’ve made this video about a month or two ago though.
Awesome video. After watching i went and looked up how many of these games exist on both wii and wii u VC. Seems like a ton of the old school games are going to kick the bucket. Luckily we can thank the people in the homebrew scene to keep these things alive for many more years to come. I'm also crossing my fingers this also means that good things are coming for the Switch as far as Virtual Console goes.
Great shoutout to Bithead1000! The greatest show in the history of human civilisation!
Hooray! A new MLiG video!
Im so happy you guys made this video.
this is an awesome episode, thanks for doing it guys. Great stuff !!!!
The games not offered on the wii u shop needs to come out for switch when they kill this.
The VC in general needs to come to the Switch...
Do an RGB on the Wii
What an awesome video! Great job, guys! Loved the guests.
I love the love and care you guys put into tjhis video, I really loved the wii and sometimes people dont seem to get why
good thing people make the wads available so you can get them and put them all on your wii still if you know how. and if you previously owned the games, I got zootr working on my wii pretty fast it pretty cool.
1 hour of MLinG episode!? Does not matter the content, made my day! ~ Here: Take my Like!
Seriously good job on this, love all the guest spots.
great video. i did this 3 years ago, freaked out bought a wii. and loaded it with virtual console games. you brought a few to my attention i was not familiar with. i will stock up more games tommorrow. that wii shooter western game looks fun and cheesy
This is all very good ... I want all this on my Switch ;-; !!!
I still prefer the original wild guns, it just feels tighter than the PS4 and perhaps a bit less challenging. The ps4 title feels designed around multiplayer in all situations so single player can be a tad more tedious and difficult at times (more space to cover, more screen space or projectilces to come from etc.).
What an awesome episode with incredible guests!
Wii shop is officially gone now but I was smart enough to save all of my games to an SD card in the case my system ever failed. Truly a lost treasure in the gaming emulator world! Thanks for such a great job putting this together, I really enjoyed it!
And I bought my _first_ Wii just 2 months ago...
gtabro1337. Buy a GameCube controller softmod your wii install emulators and download roms and isos and play pretty much any retro game including n64 which is a hit and miss glitch wise you can also play GameCube games flawlessly
I recommend just buying most of the N64 games you want to play as those are hard to emulate via hacks but you should have no problem hacking the other emulators
gtabro1337 buy what you can some really good snes games on there that are expensive unless you emulate it or do homebrew
Welcome to 2006, wow
Install RiiConnect24 on it :)
My favorites are Rhondo of Blood and Mega Man 9. Mega Man 9 is not stranded on the WVC though.
Jeremy Seal isn't rondo of blood available via it's psp remake?
g1nobleteam - Yep
g1nobleteam That’s right. I forgot about that one. I love Castlevania and I’m glad I didn’t have to drop hundreds on the system and game.
cyberfreak4984 - The PSP port also came with the TGCD original version as an option as well. I don't know if the Wii version had it, though.
Joe Redifer from Game Sack? What an Awesome Crossover you made here.
Nice Video!
Completely AWESOME job!!! I think this is the best video this channel has ever done!!! A+
Isn't this the real concern in buying these now?
In the future we will be closing all services related to the Wii Shop Channel, including the ability to redownload WiiWare and Virtual Console games, as well as the Wii System Transfer Tool, which transfers data from Wii to the Wii U system. We will announce specific details as that time approaches.
GREEEEENNNNDOOOGGGGGG
You guys are awesome! Another great video!
I love the contrast between the serious tone of Cory and try and then there’s game sack exposing try 😂😂😂
great list of games i just don't understand why people continue to buy download from systems that clearly don't care about longevity. it takes almost no effort for them to keep a storefront open. but they don't care about it. if there is any argument for piracy and emulators then this is it.
Kinda hard to disagree.
Exactly... or at least remove DRM from purchases when they shut the service down so we can make "legal" backups of the games we pay for.
You know, it does take effort to keep the storefront. Not only must it pay for the upkeep, it also requires Nintendo to funnel the revenue to IP owners (and keep track of changing hands) and keeping people resources to manage licenses. All of which amounts for much lower income than a new release would net. It's more of a dead weight to them. Although all of this doesn't actually dispute your conclusion on piracy. If the developers can't have your money for the game anyway, then it's not strictly pirating.
The Game Gear version of Sonic 2 is The Port of The Master System version not The other way around
whatever Game Gear version still sucks and sonic gems on gamecube uses that version
Wow, did I just sit down and watch a full hours worth of My Life In Gaming?! Impressive video guys, keep up the good work! I'm sad to see the Wii Virtual Console finally go. My casual retro gaming friends would often ask me where they should start if they wanted to dabble in the hobby and I always told 'em the same thing - grab an old skool white Wii for dirt cheap and go to town! You had built in physical Gamecube support with all four controller ports, and the Virtual Console would allow for a nice legal path to all sorts of great games across multiple platforms with solid emulation. And if you wanted to get a little bit (ahem) 'less legal' you could always softmod and toss on the Homebrew channel and a few choice ROMs and explore that route as well. Come March 26th the Wii option will lose a bit of it's luster... :(
22:26
Try: Hey Joe were doing a tribute to the Wii shop channel and we were hoping you could give the viewers a recommendation of a Genesis game to buy
Joe: Oh yeah I'd love to help with that
Try: That's great! So, what's your recommendation?
Joe: GreenDog
Try: Sorry Joe but that's not on the Wii shop channel, got any other ideas?
Joe: GREENDOG
Try: Joe, I'm going to have to get a little violent if you don't show me your game
Joe:.......................
GREEEEEEEEEEEENN DOOOOOOOOOOOGG!!
Excellent video, gang. Oh boy...Joe's acting is just so hammy. I love it. I'm surprised you guys didn't mention Sengoku 3, specifically. It's the only way to play the game cheap without investing in an arcade cabinet or a Neo Geo and a very pricey cart. One of the best beat em ups put out on the VC (though it was developed by Noise Factory not SNK.) Glad you mentioned Shock Troopers 2ND Squad. Such a better game than the first IMO.
Cutie Creampie well I was going to say "folks" but I'm not from the 50s.
"Gang's" origins: Old English, from Old Norse gangr, ganga ‘gait, course, going,’ of Germanic origin; related to gang2. The original meaning was ‘going, a journey,’ later in Middle English ‘a way, passage,’ also ‘set of things or people that go together.’
Sengoku 3 was announced for the Switch like a week ago. Been doing a lot of double dipping of the Neo Geo Switch releases.
Maztuhmind oh, very cool! I wasn't aware as I don't own a switch.
All three games in the Shengoku have been released on PS4 as part of the ACA Neo Geo series.
Haha nice Bithead1000 clip, hopefully he gets more exposure from this, he should have like 50 times more subs than he has now
No way. He's F-ing annoying.
+BoneCollector SoyBoy detected
Exactly. Move along.
+BoneCollector Come back after your pubes grown in
BitHead1000, such a hidden gem of the youtube universe!
This was absolutely wonderful as always, guys, and thank you so much for letting me be a part of it!
Lots of great choices from everyone that are really making me want to break out the credit card before its too late, especially for the WiiWare Rebirth games. Also, big respect to you guys for picking Sin & Punishment on N64. That is my absolute favorite N64 game (and its sequel is subsequently my favorite Wii game too). I remember trying it out on the Wii Virtual Console on a whim and when I saw that Treasure logo pop up and started playing it, I fell in love with it. I loved it so much that at the next convention I went to, I bought the import complete in box.
And don't worry Joe, someday someone will give Greendog the love it deserves just like you do. ;)
Bomberman hero shout-out! Nice. Definitely my favorite n64 game.
A good side note those nes and snes controllers that come with the classics pug right in to the wii motes nothing else needed
SS3Dman I was NEVER able to find the controllers they said were gonna be sold separately anywhere.
arturboy they do have the NES Mini controllers for sale separately, so I’m hoping the SNES ones will follow.
I've never found one at a store and in Amazon they want to charge 3x msrp.
i think a n64 controller would be better cuz it has the 6 genesis buttons and all other systems can use the yellow buttons as the standerd face buttons
I would have loved going digital with my retro collection, but always was cautious since I wasn't sure if you could use them on later consoles... And sure enough, if I had bought them all on the wii I'd have to rebuy them all for the wii u (for a smaller fee... but come on...), and the daisy chain probably stops there because the switch won't let you get them from your wii u, maybe not even offer them at all.
I am not goin pay 4 friggin times to have smb 3 for a total of almost 80-100 bucks, they seriously need to overthink their online business strategy, all it does is provoke people to mod the consles and pirate the old game, this will happen with the switch as well, and honestly I don't blame them.
At least I still have my library of games on the shelves, would have hated myself if I sold them all and went the digital route.
Giant Bombcast taught me to appreciate the Wii Shop music and I’ve loved it ever since
You guys are legendary. Really enjoyed this episode. Considering doing a similar themed episode for PSN and related games?
[Coury] That could be a lot of fun! Maybe we'll do that.
and for pokémon fans
get MY POKÉMON RANCH! pretty much the only option to (still) get a legit mew in gen4 or a phione, without having a manaphy for breeding in first place
Greeeeendoooooog
Great video. I'm definitely getting the ReBirth games and maybe some of the other VC games mentioned here. What surprises me is how I wasn't aware of the 240p option that existed on the Wii. D: Would've been nice to know as I've bought a good handful of 240p supported games on my Wii U, but I guess I could always mod those into my Wii if I want.
If you know a way to transfer games from a Wii U back to a Wii please let me know.
Luis Carlos Pando I would just download a WAD file of them. I already own them on one device, so why not
Sin & Punishment was one of the first games I ever played, I loved it as a kid. Haven't played it in a while though, maybe I should get it.
