“Rock and roll has become respectable. What a bummer”. Ray Davies to a “t”. The Kinks had the finest lyrics of the 1960s, savage, sardonic and very sad.
As a kid growing up in the 80’s, who became infatuated with the British Invasion of the 60’s in junior high, I’ve always considered “The Big Four” to be: Beatles Stones Who Kinks As a kid, that was the order as well. As I’ve gotten on in life, that order has changed, and The Kinks are at the top of it.
So many bands had to wait far to long to get in to the RnR hall. And other well deserved bands still aren’t in! At least they got this one right with the Kinks. And in answer to Pete’s “what, kept, you?” (In part 1). I believe there is a mandatory 25 year wait from a bands inception (unlike sports and five years after your last season).
No band ever has greater stories to tell than The Kinks. Why they don't make a movie about them is just unfathomable. Just think of all that golden cheddar? All those miss-adventurous stories. All those teenage foot in the hold adventures as young men touring the US after their manager quite. All the trouble they got into, leaving them banned from the US for five years? What a story?
@PlaceSoFarAway Mick Avory once said that perhaps one day there will be a "Ray Davies Day" in England only instead of it being a holiday, everyone would just work harder.
I’ve read two autobiographies by Dave and two autobiographies by Ray, and nowhere in any of these four books was it mentioned that Mick was this funny. Good aim with a cymbal stand, yes,
Mick Avory was a hugely underrated drummer-especially in concert.I still always wonder if Pete regretted leaving the Kinks, just before their comeback in the states. It still sucks as a fan,and yet it has been ages ago.
I think the short aside tribute to Keith Moon was poignant, and shows that the real innovators of the British invasion were NOT the Stones or the Beatles, but bands like the Kinks and the Who!
@DaveG303 ??? Ray got shot like 6 years ago. He's put out 2 great solo albums in the last few years (as well as a choral collection). Dave has a solo album out and "God in My Bran" (a post-stroke song) is arguably one of the best tunes he's ever done. He also has a DVD coming out next month, and ray has an album of duets on the way... sounds like they're quite busy!
Very good Ray. But you need to find a slice of modesty somewhere in your wonderful character. It’s The Kinks remember. Your brother and the rest sat patiently for a crumb of appreciation and recognition. I applaud you all.
Watch pt 1. Every body got their due. Who wrote, arranged etc, etc etc. He had moments of artistic help from Dave. He did quite well on his own. No other did. He is uncomfortably modest. Sorry you read him that way. He was THE inspiration behind vh1 storytellers and that show was un real. Absolute genius
@@lucyfoster4082 He can - but it's a huge effort for him. He's said many times that Dave is a great guitarist and that certain records would not have been any good without him.
Thanks for this, well, it's now only 5 years to "dither and shake". We have lost Pete, Dave had a stroke, Mick still isn't doing anything........ and Ray got shot. Ray's take on the USA-----didn't mention that they were banned here for four years. Time to make up for some of that lost time.
Funny, Ray was the Beatle of the group, though I don't like the way other members of the Kinks especially all the other early ones, were slighted in favour of him. On another note, both Ray and Mick were still very charming-looking at this time.

Peter Quaife, what a handsome gentleman. R.I.P. 06-23-2010 ✨️💖🎶☮️

Cannot agree more
That is definitely the best four bands in history
I’m with you.
Don't forget Pete Quaife with Avory excellent Rythm behind the Brothers.
Bad cold

Why were the Kinks banned from the U.S. for 5 years?
Ah here he is.
@PlaceSoFarAway Mick Avory once said that perhaps one day there will be a "Ray Davies Day" in England only instead of it being a holiday, everyone would just work harder.
LOL! Everyone would work harder - and vacillate between self loathing and criticizing the world!
That’s hilarious.
I’ve read two autobiographies by Dave and two autobiographies by Ray, and nowhere in any of these four books was it mentioned that Mick was this funny. Good aim with a cymbal stand, yes,
For all it's faults, it's great to see The Kinks get the acknowledgement from the hof. they've deserved for so long.
Rock and roll never dies and especially the Kinks will last forever!
Clever speech, delivered with consummate timing.
Ray Davies is my favorite Beatle.
Your fans are still with you Ray...... you really got me
Sniff...it's not cocaine...really...I'm emotional...sniff...
Mick Avory was a hugely underrated drummer-especially in concert.I still always wonder if Pete regretted leaving the Kinks, just before their comeback in the states. It still sucks as a fan,and yet it has been ages ago.
Hugely underated - with Bobby Graham on many of their records.
imdonho Avory was actually the Stones first drummer.
actually Carlo Little was first then Avory then Watts
I love Ray but I think it was in poor taste to praise Keith Moon while Mick was standing right behind him
From what I read he left because he couldn't stand the Rivalry between Dave and Mick. It was just getting on his nerves.
rip pete quaife. so lovely to see them all together.
And Mick Avery will be selling old Kinks CDs out side in the Foyer later.
Simply love them. Ray and Dave are rock and roll. Period.
Why is Ray sniffing so much ☃️
Who is the first dude to talk, at the opening of pt. 1, who introduces the introducer (Graham Nash)?
Ahmet Ertegun, founder and president of Atlantic Records.
I really enjoyed this clip! I saw Ray a few months ago perform in SoCal and he was just amazing.
Did Sir Ray indulge with a bit of nose candy? 😜
Love you Ray ☮️💜
Yes, well we know that The Kinks are one of the greatest Rock n Roll band sin the world !!!!!
The only meaningful speach on RARHOF I've ever heard
You should watch Alex Lifeson on Rush's induction
@@Pete_S blah blah blah?
Would be nice if Ray and Dave can put aside their differences and make one final Kinks album.
And it's happening in 2018! :)
@@MattMunoz Oh no it didnt !
Love them so much.
“Keep it going for another 25 years”
Que shitty version of “you really got me” lol
if no Ray, Dave, Pete and Mick, no Invasion just British
Mick is one of the coolest drummer
Classy speech from Ray on his and their HOF nom in ‘90!
Ray davies is john&Paul rolled into one...
He's not.
Through in George and he still beats them all
Long live the Kinks!
"Yo' laughin', Stingk...". LOL.
He said, "Sting."
Ray seems rather unimpressed with it all... exactly what I would expect from him....
The Kinks 4 ever. As Beatles, Stones, The Who. The kinks forever too.
The two Johns should have been invited also
God save The Kinks!!!
Love the Kinks! 💕
Thanks so much for putting these up!! I've wanted to see this for years!
Keith Monn changed the way of drumming ! What a recognition from Ray to the Who .
But Keith learned it from Viv Prince!
Kinks & The Who ❤️ the best ever, true Rockbands
Luileadolfo Keith 🌙 MOON
The first bass guitar solo on My Generation- John Entwistle
The Beatles admired the Who but the Who admired the Kinks.
They all look so good here ~ wish they'd played one last time together.
Beatles❤Girl Supposedly happening in 2019. Ray, Dave, and Mick.
GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!
Love those Kinks!!!
I wanna know what Pete says out the side of his mouth at 2.44.
There's nothing more un-rock 'n roll than the Rock 'n Roll hall Hall of Fame.
I think the short aside tribute to Keith Moon was poignant, and shows that the real innovators of the British invasion were NOT the Stones or the Beatles, but bands like the Kinks and the Who!
B.s.
Especially NOT The Beatles. Overrated boy band.
Working at the factory & Around the dial are two of their best tunes and they came out in the ?mid 80's

Totally agree with that perspective. That is why they didn’t get along and ultimately broke up as a band

Ray is pathologically unable to give Dave his due, but despite this is undeniably humble.

I don’t know if Ray can be nice
@brandnutopian Ha! That's great.
What's wrong with the spelling?
Thank you for putting this up. Loved the letter, because at the time weren't they going through that with MCA?

Watch part one. No one was slighted.
Keith Moon 'did' change the sound of drumming! Without Keith, The Who were shit!
