Ringo's the legendary timekeeper. Anything else he does is icing on the cake. All those years with the Beatles; whatever they were doing, clear or unsure, he filled it in. His All-Star bands have been the perfect foil for Ringo, drumming or singing.
Loved this documentary which highlighted with great clarity the significance of Ringo as a drummer, as a Beatle, as a drummer in the Beatles and as an authentic and kind human being. In 1970 I got my first set of drums and became a drummer because of Ringo. Ringo's energy and initiative and carrying on with his career into his 80's is an inspiration for all.
I love this, thank you. One of my favorite songs of all time is…It Don’t Come Easy, it says it all for me. Ringo and George are both my favorites of the Beatles….When I first heard them, my attention quickly shifted to Ringo and the drums….it was his playing style of those drums which caught my attention, and every song was enhanced by those drums and Ringo’s techniques. This also helped influence me in deciding to play the drums myself and other percussion instruments. During my time with a band playing music for nursing home residents, I played 3 tambourines at one time, including a multiple cymbal which would attach to the top of a cymbal over upon a drum, and each had a different pitch and tonal sound of its own. I was heading for 4 of them when our band split up because of life changing circumstances among the members. I also had a pair of bongos, maracas and other percussion instruments, all because of Ringo and the drums he played. I was even allowed to play drums at a special Native American service with prayers. Ringo is and will always be my mentor and the unique talented drummer and musician he is famous for. Ringo was really the force behind the Beatles. If you compare the recordings of Pete Best against Ringo's contribution, you'll notice a major difference. Ringo played hard which drove the other guys to play hard. He complimented the music without being too busy, sometimes by creating space w/out playing. Towels on the drums has been around since the beginning of drums. I love Ringo. He made it popular after Hal Blaine. Its been done for quite a while n. Still. Ringo is great 👍
As I’ve heard it, Ringo was given songs appropriate to his limited vocal range for 2 reasons. It completed the ‘four-headed monster’ aspect of the Beatles: they could ALL play & sing, which was almost unheard of, & it gave John, Paul, & George a chance to rest their voices during live shows. By “Revolver” they started writing tunes with Ringo in mind, thus “Yellow Submarine” & “With A Little Help…”. And like George, he improved greatly as the group matured. Ringo is a fantastic stylized drummer; he contributed the perfect signature licks for the Beatles’ songs, & his high hat playing is furious in the early stuff.
7:54 - That's not Pete Best. That's Johnny Hutchinson of The Big Three who filled in a few times in the days before Ringo. 9:52 - George got the black eye, not Ringo.
August, 1963, was when Ringo replaced Pete Best, though he had subbed in with them a few times before them (to each of the frontmen's acclaim). Ringo did not get punched--Pete Best's fans got into it with the Beatles and George Harrison scored the black eye. Ringo: "Yeah, well George wasn't always a guru." As John Lennon put it, "I brought Paul in, he brought George in, and George brought in Ringo." Lots of tenderness between those two and I agree--without Ringo, the band never have gotten off the ground. The Beatles needed an innovative drummer who never missed a beat and they found him in Ringo. p.s. as re. smoking pot with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney pushed Ringo to try it first...whether he did so willingly is up for debate.
I'm glad you said that being a left-handed drummer is not as easy as you think it would be I'm right-handed and coming to 20 years and I still now that I'm older I actually have mastered one of their songs on the left hand but I'm extremely sloppy and I'm still working on it because I don't know if any other drummers understand this I'm sure some of you do I'll practice some of his drumming out of respect for the profession because I never learned how to play drums by anybody else I picked up a pair of sticks on my father said one day he came home and handed them to me because he was extremely proud and I still try some with Ringo styles and I'll do it left-handed so I can play right-handed and left-handed I want to master it but it is not easy , he should be number one and a reason why I think you should be the number one drama because he has extreme lengths of discipline on his records I can hear it I'm more of a Keith Moon Ginger Baker, when I'm drumming I like to either have two bass pedals I like to do quite a few rolls in 3 minutes sequences, but I've learned getting older,a lot of people want you to keep a temple for a long period of time some people appreciate it some people get really aggravated because of the in the list of top five drummers.
Oh dear , I was wondering about the accuracy of this film but when ( at 10.04) they incorrectly said Ringo got a black eye instead of George after Pete Best was dismissed I knew they hadn't done their homework and switched off!
A friend of mine went to college here in the area I live at West Liberty College for a degree in music. He was keyboardist. He moved to California a couple of years after he graduated realizing the music scene in Eastern WV was pretty much dead aside of really good bar bands with musicians who had day jobs and families and didn't want leave home. He knew nobody out there and he started reading the musicians adds because this was pre internet for common folk in the 80's. He answered an add for a keyboard player to jam with payment. So he called and went to interview. It was Ringo. He was on house arrest from when he got busted for weed. That just goes to show you that time and place are important but also unpredictable. I haven't seen him since he told me that story when he was back home about 25 years ago. He said he had a vert successful music career.

Очень классно сказано: Единственный.... Но главный!!! Без него, боююсь, Битлз- был бы другой... А, может, Битлз- был бы и не Битлз?????
Just an FYI. It was George that got the "shiner", at Ringo's first Cavern gig. Well publicised story.
He could always count on me as one of his friends ❤
Just the coolest guy for over 60 years. Only problem: almost no solos in Beatles records. Peace and love, everybody.
Ringo Great music 🎵 maker
The beat in Beatles!
Melhor baterista do mundo, aqui no Brasil os músicos o respeitam muito.
Melhor baterista de todos os tempos, vida linga, muitos shows.
He is the greatest!
I agree Ringo was the best R&R drummer he's probably still pretty good
Ringo DID drum on "Why Don't We Do It In the Road".
Prezado Ringo 🌟 que DEUS lhe proteja sempre❤
Great film...
And in the end …. Ringo was the only possible drummer for the Beatles. This is what comes out of their story.
Truly the 4th Brother
Ask Bernard Purdy
FORTH BROTHER INDEED 💖💖💖💖🙏
I think Charlie Watts could've drummed for the Beatles.
They wouldn't have made it without him. His drumming and personality were essential. He's a wonderful unorthodox drummer - others are technically better, not a soul on earth would say otherwise. But they couldn't have done what he did
Rock steady tempos with a relaxed, easy and unique feel. He did exactly what was necessary wonderfully well.
Peace and Love; best of people.
7:54 - That's not Pete Best. That's Johnny Hutchinson of The Big Three who filled in a few times in the days before Ringo.
9:52 - George got the black eye, not Ringo.
Ringo is a true knight
Paul truly is.
Nice one! Thank you.
Ringo did the drumming on Why Don't we do it in the Road.
At first it was done in its entirety by Paul, but when time came for overdubs, it was Ringo on the final version.
Hoy 61 años que Ringo se convirtió en un Beatle 💕
The concert for George with Ringo singing Photograph was iconic
He did write ‘Don’t pass me by’ on the White album, one of my fave Beatle songs.
August, 1963, was when Ringo replaced Pete Best, though he had subbed in with them a few times before them (to each of the frontmen's acclaim). Ringo did not get punched--Pete Best's fans got into it with the Beatles and George Harrison scored the black eye.
Ringo: "Yeah, well George wasn't always a guru." As John Lennon put it, "I brought Paul in, he brought George in, and George brought in Ringo."
Lots of tenderness between those two and I agree--without Ringo, the band never have gotten off the ground. The Beatles needed an innovative drummer who never missed a beat and they found him in Ringo.
p.s. as re. smoking pot with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney pushed Ringo to try it first...whether he did so willingly is up for debate.
Согласен-- Битлз: Это именно 1) Джон. 2) Пол. 3) Джордж. И, главное: 4) Это Ринго наш!!! Наш ( главный рычаг 👍👍👍👍😂) - и никак иначе...
He didn't write "With A Little Help From My Friends", that was Lennon and McCartney. Ringo just sang it.
Great piece 😎 I think it's going to get a lot of views.
Ringo is truly the fourth Beatle.
And all this time I thought it was Stu :)
With a Little Help From My Friends is credited to Lennon/McCartney and they wrote it together for Ringo to sing on Sgt. Pepper.
As it turns out...Ringo was always the best Beatle!!
