  • This is an HBO Show called OFF THE RECORD that Ringo did with Dave Stewart interviewing. It was released in May of 2008. Great interview from a musicians stand point. I DO NOT own rights to this video. I'm only putting it up to share with other Beatles and Ringo fans. No copyright infringement is meant in any way.

      +Purple Peanuts Whatever one thinks about Pete Best, guess you know this, it was the other three who sacked Pete. THO i would say that Pete Best was treated in a bad way by John, Paul and George. They should have give him some credit. After all. It`s mentioned in The Beatles Anthology. As Ringo says: "Peace and love"

      The J, P & G all said that when Ringo came on board is when they became the Beatles. Ringo was the missing link in the sound they were striving for. Pete Best had to go and there is just no nice way to do that sort of thing. It just has to be done. Hurt feelings and all.

      @treasurehunteruk9718 Год назад

      He's forgotten his Liverpool roots. Do you think he'd live there? He scooted off to the US and does not even live in the UK. Another David Bowie. All the tosh about him being a Brixton boy when he died. He would not have been seen dead in Brixton, he wanted nothing to do with England when he got rich and famous.

    • @mr-nr4td
      @mr-nr4td 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@treasurehunteruk9718 nope, nothiung like that happened, whatsoever. Beatles or Bowie. At the time, the Labour government of Great Britian had unbearablly brutal tax laws of 90% to highest earners, then those who had enough left to save or invest fell into the Supertax rate of 95% to 98& and left with virtually nothing...just crazy. It was not a matter of them turning their backs on Liverpool or G.B.
      The Beatles had six number-one singles in 1964 and earned $25 million that year. After management/legal/travel expenses they each grossed $4 million. Their country took $3,920,000 of that from each of them, leaving them with only $80,000 each of the $4 million they each earned. After travel and living expenses, they barely broke even. This is while in the U.S. bands that had just one top 40 hit would net nearly 10 times more than the biggest band in the world. The Beatles were never even given the chance to make their talent and success pay off in England. England did not revise their brutal tax laws until well after the Beatles had broken up. None of the great British musicians of that era left England for any other reason than they couldn't survive there because of the insane tax penalties they suffered because of their success. Rock stars of the 1960's and 1970's leaving Liverpool / Great Britain was a simple matter of common sense and survival.. Their own country forced it on them by overly penalizing their success.

      Your wrong TreasureHunter, besides the brutal tales factores, I think I've never heard a singer/songwriter that refers his hometown in his songs like Ringo! Nice songs, reflections, memories and even the not so nice aspects of the huge port-city of Liverpool like what he told us in 'The other side of Liverpool' from his "Y not" album of 2010. He also has an álbum named after his hometown: "Liverpool 8" (2008).

      Loved the interview. Ringo is so self deprecating. He is so matter of fact with the technical side of his music. He clearly talented but makes it sound like he was just messing around. It's coming out why he did things the way he did like being a left handed player on a right handed drum kit for example. His adaptations were intuitive but he did create a special and unique sound.

    Ticket to Ride has always been one of my top Beatles songs. I always knew it was a Middle East/Hindu sounding song, but growing up I always attributed it just to the guitar riff. I've always loved Ringo, but until I saw this on TV, I did not realize it was really more him than the guitar that made this song as well as all the others that had that sound. Check out 25:20. It's one of my favorite interviews ever.

    Even at The Cavern, comparing The Beatles "with" Ringo to The Beatles with "Pete Best" was like The Beatles had been playing with an Anchor round their necks. AND the difference is clear when you closely watch Ringo playing Rock with a "Swing" .. Watch Ringo's head even in this video , keeping a Swing time which is "slightly" behind the beat hence a "BACKBeat" . Funny how R&R & Swing can not be played ON the beat.If you do it falls flat, By the way Stewart Copeland plays "FaceBeat" which is slightly BEFORE the Beat and gives you more of a Latin/Percussion feel but still gives POWER to the melody which is ON the beat.
    Ringo was DESTINED to join the other guys , I can not imagine a Pete Best being in "A Hard day's night"

    If I were you (whoever it is that owns this video) I'd edit out the drug refrence, the one in particular where Ringo jokes about how they helped him play better. I can tell ya for a fact tht young kids who want to be Ringo / rock drummer, WILL run with it. I'm sure this wasn't Ringos intention, he was talking to an audience of adults, but to those who put ths on -line, a simple split second mute would maybe do a lot of good. When I was a kid during their formative years, I know 4 guys, just off the top of my head, who heard that Ginger Baker, Chralie and so on all did some unhealthy and dangerous things prior to taking the stage. A few of these guys did take it to heart. Not good.

    The title of this video is very confusing and also contains bad grammar. I hate to come off like a grammar Nazi but I cannot let this one slide. But more importantly the video name appears to contain a falsity.
    Firstly, why is "Liverpool08" in the title? We know Ringo is from Liverpool. Is Dave Stewart a Liverpudlian? Did the interview take place in Liverpool in 2008? What is the reference to Liverpool for? That should be made clear in the title.
    "2008 Interview with Ringo Starr by Dave Stewart" would've sufficed nicely, if that's all the title is trying to convey. Is the interview "with" Ringo Starr or "with" Dave Stewart??
    Also, if something is "off the record" then... "IT SHOULD NOT BE PUBLICLY REPORTED." Therefore since this is being reported in a public place like RUclips, I believe that part of the video title (description) is actually untrue.
    Say what you will about my bad grammar, this video title is much worse.
