Absolutely!!!! Paul McCartney is the melody bassist of all time, John Entwhistle is the killer bassist technically of all time (excluding the slapping community). He did BASS like classical guitar!!!
I think Jack Bruce fans might disagree. The best was probably the blond lady who played with the Wrecking Crew, the session group who played on a huge number of recordings Her name is Carol Kaye. She is now 89.
@Graham48 because you played on many songs does not mean that you are the best, it means that you are an employee to perform bass on songs in a studio when artists don't have a bass player. You are not a live on stage bass performer. Means that you are good, but does not mean that you are a John Entwistle.
I came up with my own list and somehow ended up with all the members of Rush. Most would be on board with Neil, and a good many would be cool with Geddy on bass, but then I happen to think Alex Lifeson is as good as anyone and kept him for the Rush member chemistry. I would replace Geddy's vocals with a singer. I came up with 2 favorite progressive singers with other skills - Steve Walsh (Kansas), and Peter Gabriel (Genesis/solo) Steve brings top notch keyboard skills, and Peter would be a good counter songwriter to Neil's complex skills. Super Group: Neil Peart - drums and songwriting, Geddy Lee - bass, Alex Lifeson - guitar, Steve Walsh - keyboards and vocals, Peter Gabriel - vocals and songwriting.
Drums: John Bonham Keys: Billy Preston Bass: John Entwistle Guitar: Jimi Hendrix Vox: Elvis Presley For keys I would tap Jon Lord, and for the voice... Elvis would be a hell of a frontman, but I gotta go with Paul McCartney himself. He can do tender ballads, goofy sing-a-longs, and hard Rock anthems. Throw on Golden Slumbers and he goes from one extreme to another in a single line. The kid's got talent. As for Bonzo, The Ox, and Jimi, hell yeah!
I would lean more towards songwriters/collaborators over virtuosity (though I love those guys as much as anybody does). I also think that backup vocal ability is huge, as is versatility, different influences, creative backgrounds and uniqueness. I expanded it from five because... well I could... but I tried to get everybody in that belonged. - Lead Vox: Ann Wilson - monster vocalist, good songwriter (adds a flute option and gets a female influence in here also). - Lead/rhythm guitars (swap back and forth): Jimmy Page - THE best combinatiion of songwriter, versatile musician and band leader. David Gilmour - songwriter, versatility, backing vox. - Bass: Chris Squire - unique, distinctive bass playing, songwriter, great backing vocalist. - Acoustic guitar: Paul McCartney - had to work him in because of the songwriting and vocals. - Piano: Elton John - songwriting and vocals again. - Keys: Keith Emerson - THE electronic virtuoso of virtuosos. Good songwriter, great classical interpreter. - Drums: Alan White - rocks great but more versatile than Bonham while adding backing vox and some songwriting. - Percussion - Ray Cooper: THE maestro of ALL percussion maestros. - Lyrics - Bernie Taupin: nobody else even remotely close (not Dylan, not the Fab Four even if all are combined)
If you had to replace all the Beatles with 4 new guys : Drums : Bonham Bass : Chris Squire Guitar : Clapton I'd replace Lennon with Rick Wakeman on keys I could make a case for Bill Bruford over Bonham, but then you'd pretty much have a reformation of Yes 😊 (Maybe there's something in that ?) Clapton and Squire together could hold down the vocals quite serviceable, I think.

Billy Shepherd--the spitting image of Phil Ackrill of Denny Laine And The Diplomats. Also looks just like Vivian Stanshall. Silly Willy with the Philly Band. Ooo-Wee!
It is so difficult if not impossible, to name just 5 people to round out a "super group". I mean the list of people you would overlook is overwhelming. I would also hate to disappoint any of the greats that deserve a spot on the roster. 60 piece rock band. Now we're talking! 8^)
All I can say is have Paul write the music. I looking at the list it seems more like a who he thinks is the best on each instrument, not so mush of a formulated band. And with that said that you made a great choices for each of the artists he chose.👍⚖️
These are all great pics by McCartney ...but a glaring omission is the ability to write . Yes , Jimi could write and Billy , but would they be good enough for GREAT memorable songs .....Yes , ALL these pics would help produce Fantastic Jam Sessions when together . Pauls's fantasy group is fairly predicable. But Rock by definition is out of the box. So I'd go with: Vocals: Iggy Pop Bass: Paul M Guitar: Rory Gallagher Drums: Keith Moon Synthesizer: Brian Eno Sax: Ornette Coleman
My supergroup would be Dylan, Hendrix, Bonham, John Paul Jones and Stevie Wonder. This would kick the ass of all theoretical rock bands ever devised imho
There are many ways to construct a supergroup. Are they to cover all instruments, as Paul has done, or be a band of singer-songwriters with some backing (or studio) musicians to play the songs. Stevie Wonder? Elton John? Bruce Springsteen? Bob Dylan? Chuck Berry?
Two hypothetical supergroups I’d like to see, with living members, would be Paul and Ringo with the current Rolling Stones lineup, and/or Paul and Ringo with Jeff Lyne and Todd Rundgren, playing Beatles songs.
Based on singing, playing, songwriting, performing, UK Band Bass: Paul McCartney Guitar: John Lennon Drums: Phil Collins Keyboards: Elton John Lead Guitar: Jimmy Page/Eric Clapton/Pete Townsend Singer: Mick Jagger/Freddie Mercury US Band Bass: Brian Wilson Guitar: Bob Dylan/Paul Simon Drums: Don Henley Keyboards: Stevie Wonder/Billy Joel Lead Guitar: Jimi Hendrix Singer: Elvis Presley/Michael Jackson The categories with the slash are very close and could be either one on any given day

The Beatles would have not missed a beat! They were The Beatles that grew together naturally and apart naturally . They created the irreplaceable genius of songs, music, technological advances, culture, dress, hair, and regenerated the great early rock songs and then re- invented rock and pop music from the ground up! They were no more replaceable with other individual musicians than the Mona Lisa and David would have been with another great genius sculptor and painter!
I was totally onboard with this band idea ... until the vocalist was revealed. You'd need someone better-versed in Experimental Rock and Rock Fusion, IMO. Because - I think - that sort of music is probably what would work best for this combination of talent.
And my comment got added when I wasn't finished. It was about the SIX positions in my All Time Band based on everything they did, and not how they would play together. The sixth position is the 2nd guitarist which was both fairly common, but also just a blaay to get one more

He probably went with George because they were friends in 1956. He may have seen a different Elvis movie with John. It is an easy enough mix up to make thirty/forty years after the fact.

@@Graham48 pish!
@Graham48 because you played on many songs does not mean that you are the best, it means that you are an employee to perform bass on songs in a studio when artists don't have a bass player. You are not a live on stage bass performer. Means that you are good, but does not mean that you are a John Entwistle.
If you like bass-players w/classic-guitar-like technique, check-out Victor Wooten.
@@Graham48 Carol Kaye has been subject some disputes about exactly which Motown tunes she played on. You might be enjoying James Jamerson.
Super Group:
Neil Peart - drums and songwriting, Geddy Lee - bass, Alex Lifeson - guitar, Steve Walsh - keyboards and vocals, Peter Gabriel - vocals and songwriting.
As may be widely known, John Lennon is credited with saying, “Before Elvis, there was nothing.”
He was just talking about his own experience
Drums: John Bonham
Keys: Billy Preston
Bass: John Entwistle
Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
Vox: Elvis Presley
For keys I would tap Jon Lord, and for the voice...
Paul actually played with Bonham in Rockestra
John, Paul, George and Ringo
My dream group.
Dave Brock, Nik Turner, Bob Calvert, Lemmy, Simon King, Dik Mik, Del Dettmar. 😊
What a band that would make...:😁
I have a strong suspicion that Paul's supergroup would really be Paul, Paul, Paul, and Paul.
If you had to replace all the Beatles with 4 new guys :
Drums : Bonham
Bass : Chris Squire
Guitar : Clapton
I'd replace Lennon with Rick Wakeman on keys
I could make a case for Bill Bruford over Bonham, but then you'd pretty much have a reformation of Yes 😊
(Maybe there's something in that ?)
Clapton and Squire together could hold down the vocals quite serviceable, I think.
These guys couldn't touch the Beatles songwriting prowess - they would still be a super group though.
Thank god Paul is a fan of music and isn’t jaded enough not to answer this as a music geek.✌️
I knew he would pick Hendrix. You'd get a ton of controversy no matter who you named best guitarist all time, but you'd get the least with Hendrix.
Except when Hendrix was asked what guitarist he studied, he said, Jeff Beck.
@@popoff7808 Plus he adored Chicago's Terry Kath.
...wow - I was so excited to hear Paul's choices... and its mind-blowing... I would love to hear those 5 together, but its not gonna happen - at least not on earth... 💖 meanwhile I celebrate the magic that John, George, Paul & Ringo created - the ultimate no. 1 band beyond all fantasies, which actually became true... 🌟🌟🌟🌟
AI can make it happen.... soon, if not now. Is that good or bad? ........
Chitarra - Brian, batteria- Roger, basso - John + Freddie.
John Bonham, Terry Kath, John Entwistle, Freddie Mercury, Rod Argent
There will never be a better super-group than the Fab 4.
What a killer line-up would've been. I agree 100%. Unfortunately all those guys have passed away. One could only image what could've been
AI one day?
I wonder is it possible to put their talents together using AI.
@@Muller-s5f The TCB band did a tour a bunch of years ago and performed with a hologram of Elvis so why not try AI.
Would love to see someone with great A-I chops piece together that group doing "Suspicious Minds."
please level all the volume of the voices .... or use a compressor please NICE VIDEO ANYWAY !!!! :)
A Hall of Fame All Star Rock 'n Roll Band... WHOA!!!
That supergroup would really be on a different level - if only because every single member is dead.
Pretty soon, we will have musical AI tools that will be able to emulate that supergroup playing together.
Bonham, Hendrix, McCartney (himself) and Freddie Mercury.
My Super group would in some ways mirror Paul's with both Jimi and Bonham in it but with Jim Morrison on vocals and lyrics, Bootsy Collins on bass and Jimmy Page as rhythm guitarist for his riffs AND production arranging skills!
There was a super group and they were called THE BEATLES! ❤
U
Growing up a fan of sports in America you get used to looking at year-end All pro teams, All Star games and the like. About twenty years ago, after realizing the eraa of Rock n' Roll had passed, I made an All Star lineup involving positions
I must have missed the memo about the passing of Rock 'n' Roll... Never mind.
Sadly, no one he picked is still alive, but still an excellent choice! RIP gentlemen.
Jack Bruce on bass!!!
Before I hear his: Hendrix on Guitar, Billy Preston on keyboards, Freddie Mercury lead singer, Keith Moon on drums and Jaco Pastorus on bass.
Nice to remember all those unique greats
In ten years, when Paul has passed on, AI will deliver us an original song performed by Paul's super group.
Paul already was in the ultimate supergroup...The Beatles.
Billy Shepherd--the spitting image of Phil Ackrill of Denny Laine And The Diplomats. Also looks just like Vivian Stanshall. Silly Willy with the Philly Band. Ooo-Wee!
Looks absolutely nothing like Ackrill or Stanshaw.
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix
That's a supergroup ❤
These are all great pics by McCartney ...but a glaring omission is the ability to write . Yes , Jimi could write and Billy , but would they be good enough for GREAT memorable songs .....Yes , ALL these pics would help produce Fantastic Jam Sessions when together . Perhaps Paul could have included Brian Wilson and then that would greatly help in the song writing process .
My dream band:
Drums Carl Palmer, Cozy Powell, Bill Ward, Larrie Londin
Bass Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, Geezer Butler
Guitars Richie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, KK Downing
Piano Nicky Hopkins, Liberace
Keyboards Don Airy, Jon Lord
Vocalists Tony Martin, Steve Perry, Joe Lynn Turner
Pauls's fantasy group is fairly predicable. But Rock by definition is out of the box. So I'd go with:
Vocals: Iggy Pop
Bass: Paul M
Guitar: Rory Gallagher
Drums: Keith Moon
Synthesizer: Brian Eno
Sax: Ornette Coleman
Paul couldn't have played with Rory, he couldn't have kept up.
I will say it now, electric ladyland is one of the best albums ever. In concept and in playing
I can imagine them playing together except for Presley.
I can’t disagree with McCartney’s choices as individually exceptional talents.
Based on singing, playing, songwriting, performing,
UK Band
Bass: Paul McCartney
Guitar: John Lennon
Drums: Phil Collins
Keyboards: Elton John
Lead Guitar: Jimmy Page/Eric Clapton/Pete Townsend
Singer: Mick Jagger/Freddie Mercury
US Band
Bass: Brian Wilson
Guitar: Bob Dylan/Paul Simon
Drums: Don Henley
Keyboards: Stevie Wonder/Billy Joel
Lead Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
Singer: Elvis Presley/Michael Jackson
The categories with the slash are very close and could be either one on any given day
The Joe English version of "Beware My Love" is far better than the one with Mr. Bonham. The 1976 version of Wings was pretty damned amazing.
Let's see, if MACCA is being HONEST his 5 would be 1. Paul on the bass 2. Paul on the drums 3. Paul on the lead guitar 4 Paul on the keyboards and 5 Paul as the lead vocalist/ rhythm guitar did I MISS anyone??? No, I didn't think so.
My super group would be Neil Peart on drums,Mel Schaker on Bass,Tom Scholz on keys, Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar and Freddie Mercury on vocals.
I suppose AI will provide us with the answer to the question "how would this Supergroup sound?".
best easy listening supergroup would be Johnny Cash, Gordon Lightfoiot, Neil Diamond, Don Henley, and Burt Bacharach
One day soon, AI will be making songs from his supergroup.
Jeff Buckley on vocals, Chris Squire on bass would be contenders as well.
The band would last about 3 seconds before it imploded on itself.
Five indisputably great musicians, pretty sure they would absolutely suck as a band
Entwistle, Hendrix and Bonham could be a killer trio, though, and I'm pretty sure a Presley/Preston collab would be pretty happening, too
yeah....because you know better than Paul McCartney. Why not just tattoo "Moron" on your forehead - it would be more direct.
@@jamescosgriffe358 Looks like you've got more room on your forehead, chief. I suggest "Hypersensitive Nitwit"
@@jamescosgriffe358 Nice and cozy in Sir Paul's warm embrace, huh, Uncle Fester?
You mean ,to paraphrase, that would fly like a lead balloon ?
I would have liked to see that band play.
Paul has already had his super group. THE BEATLES !!
ravi shankar
I would've picked Chris Squire for bass.
James Jamerson
Or.john Wetton
Jack Bruce on bass by far!
Ja k Bruce
and, either Rick Wakeman or Keith Emerson as keyboardist.
You know with use of AI and great actors the 5 of them put together could be a movie, great idea.
And the name of the band and name of the movie would be "What If".
I was totally onboard with this band idea ... until the vocalist was revealed. You'd need someone better-versed in Experimental Rock and Rock Fusion, IMO. Because - I think - that sort of music is probably what would work best for this combination of talent.
I ❤ Paul McCartney
They did a super group of 5 when Billy joined the Beatles in the Get Back sections.
And my comment got added when I wasn't finished. It was about the SIX positions in my All Time Band based on everything they did, and not how they would play together. The sixth position is the 2nd guitarist which was both fairly common, but also just a blaay to get one more
7:33 How could John have been with Paul when he saw 'Love Me Tender' at the movie theater? The movie played in the UK in December of 1956. Paul didn't meet John until June of 57.
Cut Billy some slack, he forgets Paul's history at times
He probably went with George because they were friends in 1956. He may have seen a different Elvis movie with John. It is an easy enough mix up to make thirty/forty years after the fact.
Who wrote this?
