George, an amazing spiritual man as all of the Beatles are. While my love of, for and about the Beatles never wavered but continually changes. They have music for all phases of life and all types of love and lives. All creation becomes love. There is and are parts of this group we may never discover in this or other lifetimes but allow ourselves to enjoy. Thank you to the four wonderful souls and all who form a musical backdrops to many lives and lifetimes that create the unity of souls that we are. We are love and if we listen music acknowledges and reflects love in all. Nothing finite,, nothing that may be defined. Love, just and only love, amazing , wonderful love. Undefinable love. We are love, love is and was, love. Love.
The impression I got over the years was that George was an embittered and cynical misanthrope. I must've read different interviews than you did. @@barbaraolson6783
As a lifelong Harrison fan (I'm now 70 years old), it is rare for me to see and hear a much younger fan who "gets it". Thank you for a lovingly produced and in-depth look at his music. George changed my life, and I believe that he is having a profound effect on yours as well. Although I think Brainwashed should be #1, I find no fault at all with your ratings. It's all subjective in the end. Thank you!😊
It's not the first time I've heard someone say that George changed their lives but mostly by younger people, which is intriguing, especially when some of these people weren't even born when he died. Just curious what do you think it is about George and his music that affects people in this way. ?
Another 70 year old here and I agree! I very much enjoy these videos and it's nice to see a youngster giving George his due. This video prompted me to revisit ATMP, which I've never been terribly fond of. The demo recordings opened my ears a little - allowing me to hear the melodies that were hidden by Spector bombast. The album - including the demos release - moved up in my top George albums to number 4, right behind 1. George Harrison, 2. Dark Horse and 3. Material World.
@@gore1089 I'm no longer really young (although there was a time I was considered a 'young' Beatles fan - born after John's death but I was in college when George died) - and I think it's perhaps the sense of authenticity and seeking something genuine/larger, but combined with humility/self-deprecation. I think that's what mostly saves George from feeling like he's 'preaching' or 'lecturing' since he is on the journey as well. Plus I just do think a lot of his melodies are just timeless and sound great, in a way that stands the test of time.
honestly he has attracted a lot of new younger fans in the last couple years tbh, and get back also helped to get people curious about him. He died years before i was born and i genuinely love him and his music so much, his younger fanbase kinda blew up which is awesome if u ask me and he’d love it
( I’m now 70 and grew up as a George Harrison fan-and read that I Me Mine in the 80’s) Also getting a Gibson J-160 guitar and others . George had a really good voice and choice of women .
I’ve watched many of your videos and I’ve seen this one two times. As a lifelong Beatles fan I always gravitated toward George’s songs and include many in my own repertoire when just singing and playing at home. Your comprehensive and thoughtful coverage of not just his music but of his life is amazing and I felt acknowledgment was required. Thank you.
Dude, just finished watching this entire epic on George Harrison. I liked the McCartney one you did, but this one blows that one away. I'm not sure if it's because your love of the man, or the man himself. You seriously need to be rewarded for bringing this salute to the world. My goodness the massive undertaking it must've been. George himself, I'm sure is smiling from above, and probably thanking you! As we all are. Wow! What a production!
Sometimes when you get a “like” to your comment, you don’t know who sang it. So I’m just telling you, you are so absolutely right that this was the best of the “worst to bests” - because Harrison gave us the music AND SO much more. I’m a lifelong fan from the age of five, and I’m 64, and still find what he did the most interesting of the bunch. That’s not to put the others down, it’s just I relate best to him, I guess 🤷♂️
@@christopherhidalgo6696 First sentence was a delightful exaggeration, good natured hyperbole. If you want to stick to facts, just read sentences two and three.
I was in tears when you completed your review of #1. My nephew says George was “half a genius,” not quite up to John and Paul. I disagreed with him, knowing that my very intelligent and musical nephew had not absorbed All Things Must Pass like I did when I was 17 in 1970 and we played it on repeat, day and night. It IS a masterpiece and George DID overwhelmingly prove his genius! Thank you for an incredible job at reviewing these albums. It’s the best thing I’ve ever seen or heard about George, period. And may I say you look just as handsome as George in this video ❤
The thing is, George never was able to do all things must pass again. It's a near perfect album, but it's his only near perfect album. I'd say John had 3 albums in that level, and Paul has had, in my opinion about 5, maybe 6. Now keep in mind, most artists would be thrilled with 1 album of that quality, but you get the feeling that if he didn't have 3 or 4 years to work on that album it wouldn't have been that quality
Your love and admiration for George shines through in every moment of your video. George is my favorite Beatle, and you MORE than did him justice. Thank you, thank you, thank you Elliot- if not for you, the solo discographies of the Beatles wouldn't sing in quite the same way ❤
A massive undertaking. I found myself tearing up at certain points, just overwhelmed at the shear emotionality of George’s passion for his music. Wonderful work.
1:53:54 What a great honor it must have been to the Gallagher Bros. to have George Harrison write a song about their third album. I’m glad to hear George was able to foresee the genius of “Be Here Now.” He was a truly amazing Oasis fan ✌️
Elliot, you had me in tears during this video. George means a lot to many of us and I've been excited and slightly nervous for this video. You crushed it. 🎉 It was beautifully written and edited, and one of your funniest videos yet. Also, the research here was next level. Thanks for putting so much care and love towards this project! It was wonderful. 👏🏼🤍
Love the way Ringo calmly and confidently states that he would like to go on the roof. I’ve watched the Get Back documentary several times since it’s release and Ringo is undoubtedly the heart of the band.

I'm so happy you love "Love Comes To Everyone", it's my all time favorite Harrison solo song. So so good. The whole self-titled record is super underrated and glad you shined a light on it to those who probably weren't familiar with how good it is.
I remember my younger brother was OBSESSED with Extra Texture. He owned the vinyl with the layers and the ohnonothimagen and everything. I remember arguing with him about Pure Smokey vs Woman don’t you cry for me, which was one better and he was so passionate. He and I lived and breathed George Harrison. I remember only days after he died, the first single off the 2020 all things must pass mix came out and I cried for hours listening to it. Love you, Melly
Extra Texture definitely has some good songs-it probably would have been received better if most of it wasn't just one slow track after another and they all kinda start sounding the same...

TWO CORRECTIONS: • The guy I said was “Legs” Larry Smith is actually Vivian Stanshall. Legs is the drummer of the band. • John and Paul didn't veto 'All Things Must Pass', George decided to hold out on it til later.
I always thought you were too hard on Flowers In The Dirt so I lit up when you revised your opinion on that one. I agree about the bad 80s production, but I think the actual songs are really good on that album. I've come to really love the demos of many of those songs performed with Elvis Costello. They don't have that awful 80s over production and they are raw and passionately sung kind of like the Get Back sessions. And Thank you for your fine comprehensive videos that are enjoyable and informative.
I LOVE Dark Horse! Named my kid Maya, and I can listen to far east man over and over and over. Thank you for at least rating it fairly highly. I can’t take it anymore, I need to subscribe :-)
One of my favorite moments from TCFB is when George gets a big grin on his face as the sold out crowd cheers the first notes of Here Comes The Sun. I think he would have the same reaction if he saw your video. Beautifully done.
You owe an apology to the viewers & the Catholic church who is Holy for your uneducated slanderous comments & calumnies against her. Don't comment on religion when you know nothing about the true religion from God dufus.
I’m a massive fan of All Things Must Pass, but haven’t heard any of his other solo work cause I wasn’t sure how to penetrate his discography. Love these videos, and I’m very happy you made this one, huge motivation.
Can I just say how excellent it is to have people like Elliot giving us these wonderfully thoughtful, developed pieces of work? Elliot, your passion and knowledge never fail to shine. Thank you!
Seriously. Compared to the other garbage on RUclips that gets millions of views etc Eliot turns out such thoughtful, careful, and still very entertaining material. I am really hoping he goes over 100k soon - he so deserves it.
Amen to that. I was blown away at his skill. As I said in another comment, even if his delivery was the result of a well-crafted script rehearsed until it reached perfection in its final form, that alone would be impressive. But if this was just off-the-cuff, extemporaneous critique, it's nothing short of amazing. What a talent he has.
Outstanding. The epilogue discussing George's association with the Travelling Wilburys, his contribution to Bangladesh and the overall musical legacy he's left to the world, had me quite misty. Thank you, Elliot, for a tremendous production.
An incredibly in-depth, well done run through of George’s discography. Even though I’m an Extra Texture apologist, the All Things Must Pass portion couldn’t have been more well done. Bravo. I can’t wait for the 6 hour video of the ranking of Ringo’s discography!
Easily the best video I have ever seen on RUclips, so well thought out and balanced, also love the many clips you included. George has been my favourite artist since the mid 1970's, Extra Texture was the first George album I bought on release so I do have a soft spot for it. Excellent excellent video, many thanks for all the effort you put into it, much appreciated and great to read all the comments and see over 100,000 views already. all the best to you.
When you spoke about George’s quest for love and truth in your conclusion with ATMP, it made me think that through your #1 pick of John’s albums, his journey was love and pain. Ram showed us that Paul is about love and joy. Ringo? We know- Love and peace! But all four were about love.
Fun fact about George's love of ukuleles- He's actually loved them since the 50s so much so that when one of his friends (I forget his name) told him didn't have a ukulele, george went home and stuffed the back of his(?) car with as many ukuleles as possible and attempted to give them all to his friend. Definitely one of my favourite stories lol
The AMOUNT of work put into this is insane. The research, recording, editing. Everything flows through absolutely as smooth as can be. Thank you for this Elliott, its a great gift for a die-hard Harrison fan like myself!!
I've been waiting for this one for a while. George is up there with Dylan as one of my favorite artists, and I think some of his lyrics on Brainwashed are some of the best ever written. "I'm living proof of all life's contradictions."
"Cracker Box Palace" has probably one of my favourite opening lines from a solo Beatle song: "I was so young when I was born". Seriously, George Harrison did his take on that Game Grumps "at age six I was born without a face" bit nearly a whole decade before Arin Hanson was even born lol.
I get why they did it thou, John felt it was supposed to be a rock album hearing back to the early days perhaps? Even thou Long & Winding Road was a ballad. I don’t know, I’m guessing they wanted to make it fit the motif?
I'm so excited for this! I've rewatched the Paul and John videos a bunch of times, so having the video for George is awesome! You deserve so much love and praise for your hard work!!
Damn, this video took me almost three weeks to finish. I didn't want it playing on the background while I was focused on something else. I wanted to completely direct my attention to it and it definitely paid off. Discovered so many great George songs that I somehow missed in the past. The "Be Here Now" part and your sunrise experience brought tears to my eyes. I had a feeling I was there with you on that plane, having the same headphones on. Thanks once again for your effort, Elliot. Those forty pages surely weren't written for nothing. Love from Berlin.
can't wait for you to do Ringo, he's got some great tunes that are overlooked. When I first got into doing music at an older age his RINGO album, with its lack of pretension, was one of my biggest influences. Every track sounds like a lost Beatles song sung by Ringo, and most of his other albums have great stuff on them as well
Thank you. As the self described greatest fan of George Harrison (just my humble opinion) this was superbly and lovingly completed. I differed just a bit from your rankings (but you had them ranked fairly similar to what I would have). One of my favorite tracks that you didn't discuss was The Day The World Gets Round from Living In The Material World. It was a quirky and lyrically somewhat awkward piece but I loved it and I was really thrilled when Cat Stevens of all people decided to cover it and did a nice job I thought with it. But thanks, just really enjoyed your deep dive into George's catalog.
You just made me fall in love with George and his music again. I grew up listening to The Beatles because of my mom, and I saw a bit of myself in George, not really knowing why. His quietness, his expression through guitar slides that go beyond words, the fact he never gave up on his spiritual journey despite the chaos in his life, he's just something else. Thank you for the massive effort and research to showcast how incredible his discography is, you showed me a side of it I didn't know and that makes me want to go back and re listen to understand him better. Genuinely thank you ♡
I've watched this twice and I'm going to watch this many more times. The quality of the content here is so concise and precise as I compare it to my thoughts on George's music. I'd put this on the same level with the Scorcese document. I just love how George's sometimes overflooded spirituality is portrayed in a new and refreshing way here, I got over some godly titles on some albums and learned to really like them in the different light you gave. Heck of a mountain you've climbed and I am ever so grateful you did. Thank you so much.
I remember being a big early Beatles fan as a little kid. Then I saw the "When We Were Fab" music video and it freaked me out. Found it sad and eerie. Now I can appreciate it. But it's still melancholy.
TBH it's pretty much the same with both Paul & George. Of course Paul has some weaker ones but that happens when you put out more music and for a much longer period. I'd say both also have three truly not good records with Extra Texture, Somewhere In England & Gone Troppo with George and Press To Play, Off The Ground & Driving Rain for Paul.
@@Blannibal311 It's the Beach House Test. If it's all you had to play on a record player at a beach house in the summer, you would appreciate the hell out of those vinyls. I'm showing my age but that's how I think of albums, some of the less popular ones are still gems.
@@GlennDavey Oh I still appareciate the hell out of the majority of George, John & Paul's solo work I just think there's some real low points. I agree though that even some of the less popular/loved albums have some gems. McCartney II is a perfect example IMO. I think that album actually has some pretty good songs on it despite being a very divisive project from Paul.
I love how their solo sounds and careers really show how very very different people they were. Shows why the Beatles worked as their edges smoothed each other out, but also why they could not last for long together.
Honestly I’ve been waiting for this for so long and it was worth the wait, I think this is a masterpiece of a video essay (I think for Paul and John as well) you should be immensely proud of yourself I’ve learnt so much from this video. The fact I sat through this for three hours without a care in the world is a sentiment to your talents, can’t wait for your take on Ringo and ultimately… The Beatles ✌️
I don’t usually comment on RUclips videos but I have to say that this has been one of the most enjoyable videos I have ever seen on this platform. Well done to everyone involved! Your effort, time and attention to detail that was put in to making this video is incredible. Thank you - really enjoyed it
I was 11 years old when Cloud 9 came out. I loved the singles and eventually got the album which I also fell in love with. Then my mother told me that Harrison used to be in a band called the Beatles. This intrigued me. She dug out her old records and fanzines when she was a teenager and gave them to me. From that point on there was no turning back. Cloud 9 opened the door for me to venture through and discover all those great bands/albums that came before.

this means the world to me. Yeah, maybe it's just a youtube video for the general audience, but for me, it's actually the nearest form of content that the platform was supposed to be created for. Talking about art, music, and people that altered and impacted our lives in such profound ways is sacred because it gives a human being the opportunity to see beyond the walls of our eyes, a vision that only extends to a limited horizon at first. I am 18 , I am so young and I have so many things to experience and learn. i actually am romanian , and here the beatles are not so mainstream because our culture is stained with communism that lasted until 1989. and so when the beatles were together in the 60s, we did not have access to foreign media, maybe just really privileged, rich people that imported a very limited quantity of records. My grandparents have no ideea about , well , anything pop culture , music fashion related because they lived in a crystal ball. My parents were the generation that kinda were introduced to this whole new world. i grew up hearing my dad singing john lennon songs and actually saying at 7 years old that my favorite song is "jealous guy". My musical renaissance started about a year and a half , two years ago when i deep dived into music. the beatles changed my live, they changed everything. george harrison was always, from the moment i started listening to their discography, the person that intrigued me the most. i could write an essay about him. i won't. not here. anyways, what i am trying to say and i am ofc rambling and saying nothing really with substance, THANK YOU ELLIOT for actually caring and putting so much effort in a video like this, and dedicating so much of your time and mental capacity to tell your story regarding this complex human being . before i saw the notification that you uploaded i was listening to "be here now" and thinking how much this song means to me(probably the most visceral song that i have ever heard , and i can't even say why). thank you.
I got to see george perform on his dark horse tour his backing band was tom scott and the L A express it was a great show But the critics wanted a beatles Concert and they didn't get it what they got was a solo performance by a great guitarist and songwriter that wanted to be himself.I will never forget how great it was 🎉
Really wonderful video!!!! George's discography has so much depth and spirit to it, and you did absolute justice to every bit of it. Your rendition of Mystical One was also a lovely treat after a positively tear inducing end
My ranking, if anyone cares: 10. Extra Texture [1975] 9. Gone Troppo [1982] 8. Somewhere in England [1981] 7. Thirty Three & 1/3 [1976] 6. Dark Horse [1974] 5. Cloud Nine [1987] 4. George Harrison [1979] 3. Living in the Material World [1973] 2. Brainwashed [2002] 1. All Things Must Pass [1970]
Ever since I started listening to the Beatles again after Get Back I was always drawn to and fascinated by George and his music. I am so excited to watch this ranking of my favorite Beatle!!
What a brilliant documentary. Superbly put together with a great script. The work that went into this must have been huge. Thanks, and keep the amazing work up.
Also here’s my rank for shits and giggles 12. Electronic Sound 11. Gone Troppo 10. Extra Texture (Read All About It) 9. Wonderwall Music 8. Somewhere in England 7. Dark Horse 6. Brainwashed 5. Thirty Three and 1/ॐ 4. George Harrison 3. Living in the Material World 2. Cloud Nine 1. All Things Must Pass
Great video, BUT! As a Jeff Lynne superfan, I need to point out that he never said he wanted ELO to “pick up where the Beatles left off with Strawberry Fields.” It was actually Roy Wood who said it, and Jeff has been living it down for years. Of course, it doesn’t change the fact that Lynne is a huge Beatles fan.
Whilst I don't agree with your every choice, I'm really enjoying your 'take' on the music of George, John and Paul. I just got Extra Texture, Venus an Mars and Sometime in New York City out of their sleeves for the first time in about twenty years, this week. So thanks ever so much.
Thank you Elliot Roberts. This is a video I've been waiting for ever since you first announced that you were doing it. I have always been most curious about George Harrison's solo career. To hear the history, the emotions George went through, the struggles, the highs and lows. This is the best ranking video you've ever done. Hearing the emotion in your voice as you talk about Be Here Now was truly heartwarming. You've made me appreciate George Harrison so much more than I already do. This is amazing. Keep up the amazing work. I truly love everything Beatles and your honesty one of the reasons why.
Oh man, it's so nice to see Gone Troppo not automatically placed at the bottom like so many people do. That's the Way It Goes is probably my favorite George song period. Great video as always!
I loved Dark Horse and the tour too! They slammed George for his voice issues on the tour but, I saw it and he sounded just fine and Shankar was AMAZING.
I really don’t understand this jeff Lynne production hate (cloud 9, real love, free as a bird) I truly feel like none of these recordings would have worked without him
You were 100% correct when you said that everyone who listens to “My Sweet Lord” would at some point think it’s the best song of all time. If you were to randomly approach me and ask me my opinion about the song, I would definitely rank it in my top 10, but not necessarily #1 - BUT, when I actually sit down and listen to it (especially when I’m in a particular mood), I get overcome with emotion in a very specific way that I never get when listening to any other song, even gospel. I’m not a super spiritual person, but I truly believe that George was able to tap into some high power when he wrote “My Sweet Lord.”
Thank you, thank you so much for making and uploading this video. George has long been my favorite Beatle, but your video gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of the man and his music. Your research and presentation is impeccable. Thank you for being such an amazing guide and for sharing your love and passion for others to discover. This really made my week/month/year and I’m more excited than ever for my pilgrimage to Liverpool in late August. Thank you!

@@beckcole-picton852 Oh. I understand. I appreciate you breaking it down. I just wanted to point out that *Living In the Material World* was George’s album, not Paul’s.
When my Grandfather died in December of 2021, I drove home from work and listened to All Things Must Pass over and over again, crying the whole time. George got me through my loss; I owe him more than he’ll ever know.
George’s solo work has been so meaningful for me in my 20’s. So obviously I’ve been eagerly anticipating your ranking of George’s albums and it did not disappoint! Some great insights and analysis, thank you for all your hard work!! 🧡
Would love to see and hear Elliot take on the true Mt. Everest…Bob Dylan! If he could do it with the care and detail he brought to Harrison, it would be fantastic! Cheers, JPE
George Harrison deserves love, credit and acknowledgement as we all do with John Lennon and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr for being the glue for his drum techniques. George is criminally underrated as a lyricist Elliot rocking the mustache by the way. Hopefully we get a Ringo Starr discography ranked review in the future.
Thank you so much Elliot for such an insightful and amazing dissection of the work of my favourite Beatle. I completely agree with your line that "at some point, everyone has heard My Sweet Lord and thought it was the best song ever written." I had that moment early in 2022 and knew intrinsically that George was a genius and his music would live forever. I really appreciate your hard work making a feature length film for our free viewing pleasure.
I think the outdated sound is more of Cloud 9 rather than Extra Texture. I feel this Jeff Lynne's sound is much more outdated to me. All Things Must Pass, Dark Horse, and 33 & 1/3 are my top 3.
These videos are INSTRUMENTAL in getting me into the Beatles solo work. I wouldn't know where to go, what to expect, and how to feel without these videos. Thank you very much Elliot ❤️
Holy my sweet Lord, Elliot, you honored Hari-songs like none I’ve heard before - I’ve been listening to George in deep admiration and love for over 50 years, buying every album as they came out, and yet I learned all kinds of new tidbits I never knew before - thank you! - even insights into his lyrics, let alone you pointed out instruments I never knew existed. And where the heck did you find all of that Fab Footage? Your research skills are excellent! Maybe the only weakness is you sorta miss his spiritual depth (yet not really since you are so insightful) but you’re so damn cute - even looking like George - that I can only applaud and celebrate an excellent job honoring one of the greatest musicians EVER uniting the wisdom of the East with the talent and electricity of the West - thank you thank you - your karma has gone up several lifetimes for this great service to all awakened minds and lovers of The Beatles - you rock, but George rocks and slides even better! Thanks for showing us more Light on George Harrison and his divine music than anyone else I have ever read or listened to before: everyone should join your Patreon page forever! OM my my sweet Lord! Bless you & all and All!
11:49 I'm surprised you did not mention how The Bonzo Dog Band played a song in the 'Magical Mystery Tour' movie, and how Neil Innes of The Rutles was also in the band. Just describing them as just an "English Comedy Act" does not give them enough credit, they have some fantastic albums, like "The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse" and my favorite "Keynsham".
Wow, Elliot! This labor of love is a joy to watch. A brilliant tour de force peeling back George's triumphs and heartaches through his music, often brilliantly and often prosaically. After listening to and living with George's music for well over 50 years, it's a treat -- and deeply moving -- to listen to your deeply considered and astute observations about this complex man. Fucking Bravo, man! (And bonus points for rating "33-1/3" a 7-1/3. That earned a genuine LOL!)
This made me unexpectedly emotional and made me realise why George Harrison is my favourite musician of all time, I think because he was called ‘the quiet Beatle’ and was overshadowed a lot during the Beatles period, I was always drawn to him. He’ll always be beloved ❤
I realized why i love your channel so much in this one and it’s because you take all of the emotions I’ve felt in listening to this music and just crystallize it and explain it. There’s so much deep connection I’ve experienced with this music and the lengths you’ve gone through to explain it all has been seriously just as enjoyable as listening to the music itself. Despite being a songwriter myself I can say that your videos have done a lot to help me think even more deeply about what music does. Also I laughed out loud to so many parts of this one, I think i’ll highlight those in another comment
Excellent excellent video. Love all your videos. I own both the Apple Years and Dark Horse Years boxes but they’ve sadly not been played much, and your video’s inspiring me to dig back into those. One caveat though: Legs Larry Smith was the drummer of the Bonzos, not singer (that’d be Vivian Stanshall). Otherwise, great great video. Keep ‘em coming, keep up the incredible work!!!
Thank you so much for this video. George is my favourite musician and personality above all (even The Beatles). George LPs, interviews and publications shaped and made me a better person. I went to Henley and I dreamt that I would meet him and get my books and CDs signed by him but the security just laugh at me 😂. Great job Elliot!
I really appreciate all the time you put into producing and editing this video. You made it informative and funny ! I agree with some of the comments that I would have placed "Cloud 9" and "George Harrison" albums near the top. I was 25 when "Cloud 9" came out and thought that the Beatles had come back to life. My single favorite song is "Blow Away." It got a lot of radio play out of CKY-580 AM in Winnipeg in early 1979.
I have to watch this in chunks. I don't know who can sit through this whole discography all at once. It is very good work. I have to watch it a few times so I can listen to all the albums
George Harrison is my favorite performer and inspiration. Over the past 20 + years I have watched countless RUclips videos about Harrison but this is the BEST video I have viewed. Loved the video clips, enjoyed your analysis and join you in your appreciation of George’s spiritual tunes and wonderful lyrics. Saving to my favorite videos list. Thank you and 🕉️🙏🏻
You look more like the “Let It Be” album cover (lower right photo) Speaking of album covers, it seemed like Paul paid tribute to George’s album cover of “Gone Troppo” with “Egypt Station”….
Watching this vid made me realize how harsh I was toward “Stuck Inside a Cloud.” My Nana went through lung cancer and died from it. At that time I believed George wrote that song to talk about his experience, and I didn’t like thinking about Nana going through the same thing or something similar. It was six months (maybe longer) after Nana died when I listened to the song again. It is a good song, and I still listen to it from time to time. It’s just that I couldn’t listen to it for a time because of something that turned out to not exactly be true. In a way I was too harsh on this song, but that’s grief, I guess. …Also I almost forgot “Extra Texture (Read All About It)” existed. I suppose it’s a testament to how bad it is, even if I like 4 songs from that album.
I love this video so much. George has always been my favorite Beatle and I completely agree his solo career is often overlooked. Hearing you talk about his last album is so sad and beautiful at the same time. He had such a gorgeous soul and his music will continue to inspire. ❤️
Thank you so much for making this! It's a great roadmap to George Harrison's catalogue. I always found a lot of his album cuts to be hit or miss, so I was hesitant to go through his entire catalogue just to find the gems. This way I've got a much better idea of where to look for George at his best! 🙂👍♥️
So glad you brought up the Concert for George! I caught the documentary when it briefly returned to movie theaters a few months back. The showing was sold out and filled with fans of all ages - I wound up sitting next to a woman who had attended the Beatles' Shea Stadium concert as a teenager! We were all clapping and singing along, a lot of us were sobbing at the beauty of it all. It was my favorite filmgoing experience of last year and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Your coverage of Georg was worthy of an award! I learned so much because I'm a bit younger than the Beatles but love them all the same.I ordered I Me Mine today. George is my favourite Beatle, always was and miss him. Thank You for your hard work Elliot.I'm skint at the moment but will consider becoming a Patreon after the Holiday dust settles.
Watching George Harrison himself come back to life to become a RUclipsr and review his albums is amazing.
Nice "🗿" pfp
Love.
XD
There's no choice now. Ringo discography is a must now
and he's the best beatle.

Thank you.
Thank you so much, Doug.
I never thought I would see a video of George Harrison reviewing his own albums. This is certainly a day in the life of me.
You saw Elliot review all of Harrisons albums today, you didn't notice that Elliot was a cosplayer.

I just watched the whole thing too. Amazing piece of research, authentic love for the work and passionate execution.
George never thanked anyone, he thought music was silly
It’s an albums ranking mate.
It’s because McCartney had so much stuff that his video ended up a bit bloated
The most anticipated RUclips video of 2023 thus far. Absolutely did not disappoint. George Harrison has an absolutely stellar solo discography.

George is at most 1/100th of a genius.
@Felipe Muve you’re off your rocker
george is using 5% of his power
The thing is, George never was able to do all things must pass again. It's a near perfect album, but it's his only near perfect album. I'd say John had 3 albums in that level, and Paul has had, in my opinion about 5, maybe 6.
Now keep in mind, most artists would be thrilled with 1 album of that quality, but you get the feeling that if he didn't have 3 or 4 years to work on that album it wouldn't have been that quality
🌽
Your love and admiration for George shines through in every moment of your video. George is my favorite Beatle, and you MORE than did him justice. Thank you, thank you, thank you Elliot- if not for you, the solo discographies of the Beatles wouldn't sing in quite the same way ❤

A massive undertaking.
I found myself tearing up at certain points, just overwhelmed at the shear emotionality of George’s passion for his music.
Wonderful work.
So true! After George and Paul Simon on YT, this is the next best thing for certain!!!
1:53:54 What a great honor it must have been to the Gallagher Bros. to have George Harrison write a song about their third album. I’m glad to hear George was able to foresee the genius of “Be Here Now.” He was a truly amazing Oasis fan ✌️

I always figured someone liked it since he made it a B-side at least twice...
Here's a really beautiful cover of it:🥰

Oh, yes. One of George's best.
It was usually 33 1/3, Pet Sounds, Extra Texture, and Pacific Ocean Blue he’d have playing on his Victrola. Really miss him

Yes it's true but because George realized that both John and Paul didn't take any interest and put no efforts to put the song in the right mood

A good intro to his later work is The Best of Dark Horse comp he put out in 1989. Also has some originals on it.
Ooh you might want Brainwashed next or Somewhere in England…
Remember, we have to thank him for funding Monty Python's Life of Brian, one of the greatest comedies of all time..
I'm not going to quibble about the order but I think Extra Texture is in the middle of the list.
George Harrison is honestly my favourite solo album of his. The sound is just absolutely lovely. Great video as always!
When you spoke about George’s quest for love and truth in your conclusion with ATMP, it made me think that through your #1 pick of John’s albums, his journey was love and pain. Ram showed us that Paul is about love and joy. Ringo? We know- Love and peace! But all four were about love.
What a great comment. Love and Truth. Love and Pain. Love and Joy. Love and Peace .... the 4 Beatles, captured beautifully!
Its all you need
Fun fact about George's love of ukuleles-
He's actually loved them since the 50s so much so that when one of his friends (I forget his name) told him didn't have a ukulele, george went home and stuffed the back of his(?) car with as many ukuleles as possible and attempted to give them all to his friend. Definitely one of my favourite stories lol
That was Tom Petty. It was in the Living in the material word documentary.
when i saw paul mccartney live he brought out a ukulele explaining that george gave it to him and he played “something” on it!
The demo of "isn't it a pity" (heard in Get Back PT. 1) is my favourite George solo song. It's absolutely haunting.
My favorite song by George; Isn’t It A Pity. Beautiful, Haunting, Amazing…WOW
You should do a David Bowie worst to best, that would be outstanding!
That'll probably be like 15 hour long video. :D

I hear it as “imma living proof….” haha. What a wonderful song, album and human. He changed my life.
I'd love to see a video covering Ringo's solo discography. Some of it gets pretty wild and bizzare.
After watching the Get Back documentary, I felt they butchered George’s I,Me,Mine.
So glad you’re doing these in depth reviews!
❤
Thanks George!
can't wait for you to do Ringo, he's got some great tunes that are overlooked.
This is better than the Scorsese documentary actually.
@@vitorbastos123 Yer right, but I was afraid to say it 😁
I couldn't help but compare this to the Scorcese documentary. It's so very good.
One thing that I find interesting about George’s albums is that even his weaker albums were still decent.
Imho Even George's weaker albums are better than 98% percent of what's on the radio.
I love how their solo sounds and careers really show how very very different people they were. Shows why the Beatles worked as their edges smoothed each other out, but also why they could not last for long together.
Honestly I’ve been waiting for this for so long and it was worth the wait, I think this is a masterpiece of a video essay (I think for Paul and John as well) you should be immensely proud of yourself I’ve learnt so much from this video. this means the world to me. My musical renaissance started about a year and a half , two years ago when i deep dived into music. the beatles changed my live, they changed everything. george harrison was always, from the moment i started listening to their discography, the person that intrigued me the most. i could write an essay about him. i won't. not here. anyways, what i am trying to say and i am ofc rambling and saying nothing really with substance, THANK YOU ELLIOT for actually caring and putting so much effort in a video like this, and dedicating so much of your time and mental capacity to tell your story regarding this complex human being . before i saw the notification that you uploaded i was listening to "be here now" and thinking how much this song means to me(probably the most visceral song that i have ever heard , and i can't even say why).
thank you.

Now its time for Ringo 🌲🌷🦚🍏🏣🎱📙▫️🟢❤️✌️With Peace and Love ™
I just love the way you edited the Dark Horse as a sitcom. Haha great framing for the album.
Thanks for noticing that!
This is going to be a 10 out of 10 video I can already tell
I loved Dark Horse and the tour too! They slammed George for his voice issues on the tour but, I saw it and he sounded just fine and Shankar was AMAZING.
George was special, really a great musician and kind person
Thank you!

Nice list. One thing, though. You show *Living In A Material World* as a McCartney album. It’s a George Harrison album, of course.
@@hmm3484 Thanks! Also this is purely Elliot's list.
@@beckcole-picton852 Oh. I understand. I appreciate you breaking it down. I just wanted to point out that *Living In the Material World* was George’s album, not Paul’s.
When are you going to do Ringo's albums?
When my Grandfather died in December of 2021, I drove home from work and listened to All Things Must Pass over and over again, crying the whole time. George got me through my loss; I owe him more than he’ll ever know.
I think you should do a review of smile both the Brian Wilson solo version and The Beach Boys one. Also some more Bob Dylan please
Cheers, JPE
and it would be 12 hours.
George Harrison deserves love, credit and acknowledgement as we all do with John Lennon and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr for being the glue for his drum techniques.
George is criminally underrated as a lyricist
Elliot rocking the mustache by the way.
Hopefully we get a Ringo Starr discography ranked review in the future.
Jesus man what is with the Jeff Lynne slander in this video. Cloud Nine doesn't deserve to be so low on this list
Between the very low ranking of Cloud Nine and of Flaming Pie in the Paul ranking definitely makes me think Elliot dislikes Jeff Lynne.
50% of my like is for the the effort and analysis, the other 50% is just for the moustache.
Very nice giving the self titled its flowers! I love that record
Well done buddy. Some of the best Beatle docs since the Anthology series. I mean it. Great work ❤
What an amazing biography and tribute to George's post Beatles life and music, on top of just being a fun ranking list
Absolutely love your McCartney and Lennon rankings!! Super excited to watch this 🎸
Thank you so much for making this!
Sorry, a "7/10 on Cloud Nine" are fighting words. But a masterful deep dive into Harrison's musical legacy.
