Arejay is as cool to talk with, as it is to listen to his outstanding drum skills. Solid player, with killer fills. Without overplaying. HALESTORM ROCKS!!!! 🤘🏼🎶🥁🎸🎤🎶🤘🏼
YES!!!!!!! I've been waiting for someone to do something like this for drummers, something similar to Premier Guitar's rig rundown. Awesome Sweetwater, please do more
I really like these features exploring pro drummers kits. Arejay's kit always looked very unique, I've always wondered about his setup. Thanks for doing this.
It's amazing how different each drummer sets up their kit. He seems to like everything really low, I'm the opposite, I like all my drums and cymbals set up really high.
Arejay Hale is one of my favorite drummers in modern rock. Thanks for interviewing him, Sweetwater! Really enjoyed learning about how Halestorm gets those toms to sound so huge and thunderous. D6's will do it for sure! I use one on top of my floor tom, now that I've got a Beta52A for kick, and it is absolutely massive in the mix.
Seems like a cool guy. I like his setup by miking the bottom of his toms. Very interesting. I don't know his background or level of education. But for the love of god someone get him a dictionary or thesaurus. It's hilarious to hear us drummer's make up words for equipment that already has a widely used expression or word already. I loved it when he says "thingy's or doubler foot faster strokes". Best of luck on tour!
I personally can’t stand drums without the resonance heads. They just never felt good to me and didn’t get the power and punch and attack compared to fine tuning with a resonant head.
Andy Ham That's what's so great about being a drummer/musician. We get to find our own sound, just the way WE like it. Personally I'm with you! when it comes to having bottom head's, It's a must have for ME. But who's to say I'm right and he's wrong. Keep playing till ya can't play no more!!!
Playing the venues these guys play, i think the sound guy makes it sound full and it's easier to dial in without the resonant head vibrating into the mix.
ashton asher If you're front of house, I can understand that completely. So there's no delay for the back of the crowd. I get it. I've been there done that.
A little bit of an off topic question, Nick D'Virgilio, Can you describe the DW mfg mcd double pedals vs the TAMA speed cobra 910 lwn double pedals? In terms of the feeling/the feedback you get when playing each of them.
I used to play single headed all the time( back in the 80's) Some of the best sounding drums I ever heard over the PA were miced up just like that with SM57's stuck up inside about 2" from the heads. The drums sounded like crap without the PA, but the sound guy worked some kind of voodoo magic with them! Maybe he's Halestorm's sound guy now, lol! Got a set of Yamaha Tour Series in 85 and never took the reso head off again.
Awesome video, Nick! But I was wondering, could you make some review's of the Pearl Hybrid Exotic snares? As in the Vectorcast's the Cast Aluminum's and the Kapur/Fiberglasses? There are review's of them on the Pearl Drums RUclips channel, but the drummer who plays them in the drum set setting tunes them so high that they just all sound the same... so I would be really glad if you would make some "proper" review's where you play them with different tunings, with dampening, etc... Also, I love the review's that you've already made! Keep 'em coming! - Huge fan from Norway
WTF do all of these drummers today have only one rack tom and at least 2 floor toms? Totally stupid set up. Uses a d6 on his floor toms and "it sounds like 4 bass drums"??? OK, whatever. I get it, everyone has their own style... but it seems everyone is doing this, so it's no longer their "own style" and frankly, it's fucking up the options for other drummers because now the drum companies are only offering these stupid configurations and tom sizes.
That's one enthusiastic, positive and grateful dude. And a killer drum rig too. Respect
Arejay is as cool to talk with, as it is to listen to his outstanding drum skills. Solid player, with killer fills. Without overplaying. HALESTORM ROCKS!!!! 🤘🏼🎶🥁🎸🎤🎶🤘🏼
One of the best live drum sounds I've ever heard!
YES!!!!!!! I've been waiting for someone to do something like this for drummers, something similar to Premier Guitar's rig rundown. Awesome Sweetwater, please do more
Wish they'd hit the drums a few times on these artists videos. Id love to hear how they sound... even with a less than ideal camera mic
I was thinking the same thing when they were talking about the single headed toms.
Bounce_hit they are waiting to start the gig a bit later the drums are already miced so they just don’t hit them to prevent annoying the stage hands
@@lucyferina they may be miced but the PA will be off, unless they actually hit the mics nothing will get fucked up
I haven't listened to Halestorm's music, but Arejay seems like a cool down-to-earth guy.
He isn't fooling anyone. He got the idea for that rack setup from Gibraltar and Brent Barnett 😂🤣
“Sweetwater house drummer” 😂😂 Nick = world class drummer AND singer!!
Robert DiRocco This guy has no idea who he’s talking to. Probably never heard of Spock’s Beard, etc.
Man hard to believe i bumped into Arjay at a small music shop in Pamona Ca guy was the nicest dude ever!
I love the fact that Joe is just hanging out in the background
Seen him a few times and I like the fact that he's keeping the visuals alive and well. Definitely in the same path as Morgan and Tommy!!!

Thank you for checking it out, Jason! 👍

Arejay is awesome

Nice! Thanks for checking out the video, John!
Easily one of the best drummers in the game man!!!
Ultra Underrated drummer .
This would have been awesome if he told us his cymbal setup...
He doesnt like revealing the exact height of a couple of them.
@@bellmeisterful height?
maybe not a good enough sponcer deal to care.
@@krusher74 yeah watch love bites vid. He sets them up weird
Nice and cool guy, one of the few metal drummer with a single pedal :-D

great interview
Love it. I have done similar with my racks for years. Tri pod bases are cluttering when 4 or 5 close to each other. Love yoyr work man.
Great interview !
nice kit !
I like he always says, “we,” and “us.” Team player.

Sound man and drum tech and drummer probably don't know how to tune the reso head properly... LOL
99% of drummer agree with you.
Cool dude.
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻Arejay 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Oh man single headed! Really rare. I remember in the 80ies there was this guy.....I can feel it coming.....
steve smith?
Totigerus no😂...Phil Collins

Ralf for some reason I read your original comment as “single ply” instead of “single headed” never mind. I’ll see myself out
Ralf Or yknow, all the famous reggae drummers.

Basically, I aped Morgan Rose's rack set up....
Nice dents in the drum heads..6:14 WTF?
That's how us real heavy hitter drummers play
Change the heads every 2 o 3 shows?
Show D+ 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What is the title of the song in the intro?
“They hold up really well” “we change ‘em out every 2 or 3 shows”
Yes 😂😂 i tought the same. But i guess its because they are endorsed so its not a problem to change it
thats good if you are comparing it to heads that you change every night and put sticks through.
Morgan Rose's drum tech "Poochie" all day right there.
Just like Iggor Cavalers kit!
Please do one of these interviews for Matt Garstka animals as leaders.
Make an sonr sq1 review
Wonder how many people know that Arejays dad use to strap him in his drum set and spin him upside down while he was playing
You can actually see that in the "Octoberfest Time man" video.
ruclips.net/video/LdhkLScWYEw/видео.html
his rocket style drum is old...it has the old 1980-early1990's PEARL badge
Them head dimples though...
Those heads are wrecked!
He sounds like badger from breaking bad.
No ride cymbal? 🤔
Every tom setup and mic'ed like a bass drum. I guess its not about finesse.
Drum Rundown Danny Wagner from Greta Van Fleet!!
he just uses some old bonham kit.
How bout Jen Ledger from Skillet next
"House drummer from sweetwater"? Nick's done a few other things, dude. ;)
drumrnva but now he is known as the sweetwater drum reviewer. Haha
It's drum samples from..... we know.
So... He does something different even though it don't make sense...
One day you’ll learn
That that’s not what I’m talking about or bein robbed either
No way he sets for confort, he is already tall, he sets because people can see him doing everything, cmon. Lets be serious.
His Ludwig kits always sounded better. Sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through just to make the pearls work!!!
Ive never heard a single song from these guys
That's your loss
your not missing anything.
Ah dang no cymbal line up
"I wanted to be more ergonomic"
Keeps toms flat and hits at the worst angle possible.
He’s a solid drummer but I hate how he stands up when he plays. So distracting.
