Last year about this time I took my son to see Mr. Sobel present a drum clinic here in St. Louis. Following his awesome demo and Q&A from the sold out event there was a meet and greet open to everyone. I was so impressed that Glen made time for everyone in that long line for autographs, photos, and one-on-one conversation with kids of all ages. He stayed until everyone got to meet him. Finally ... he was rushed out the door to make it to sound check for the evening performance of Alice Cooper. Super nice. Accommodating. Absolutely a class act! My son still talks about the memorable autumn afternoon when he got to meet Glen Sobel. Priceless.
Thanks for this, Nick, Glen IS my favorite drummer now and I am so glad he is with Alice Cooper. I love his attitude, his endless skills, and love the lessons and tips he shares with the rest of us.
To many drummers that don’t need triggers are using them, I love how Dave Lombardo doesn’t use them and he plays seriously good fast paced double bass, more acoustic drums please
I know perhaps my comment comes across wrong I was just happy to see another drummer using proper acoustic drums instead of the horrible trigger sound that seems to be taking over in the metal world At one time it was only a few really hardcore speed and death metal bands that were using them on the bass and sometimes the snare but slowly it’s creeping into all metal and in my humble opinion it’s the worst thing that you can do in metal And I referred to dave Lombardo because he’s in his fifties and he still is one of the best thrash metal double bass drummers on the planet In the quest for more speed a lot of feel has been lost
I've always been impressed with DW and Glen I love your drum set. It looks and sounds amazing. I'm not familiar with you as much as I would like to be but from this video I think you're an amazing drummer. Good luck with everything you do and keep on rocking.
I own a 5.5x14 knurled steel Collector's snare and it's PHENOMENAL !!!! I actually sold my supraphonic to buy the knurled snare. It just sounds so much better. Best drums !
Awesome drummer love the set up all sounds great I'm just not a fan of that snare sounds but to marching band to me I think Alice needs a mid to low tuning rock sound
Kind of lame that he says he's using a double kick pedal so he can have the hihat pedal right next to it. Those legless hihat stands have been around forever. You can snug it up right next to the single bass pedal if he used 2 singles. Just look at where his slave pedal is. Right where a single pedal would be mounted to the kick. It's more likely he's using the double pedal actually to have the same kick sound. That's why drummers usually do it. Some just prefer the way a double pedal responds because they are used to it.
I just came across this video and was getting ready to leave my comment but you said exactly what I was going to say but I can't stand it when I see a double bass kit in the drummer's using a double pedal and then again like you said he discusses the legless hi-hat stand man that's been around for decades like you said.
Most sound engineers cannot handle 2 bass drums properly. Also, that's 20 more lugs to tune everyday. On some live recodings of bands who use 2 bass drums you hear that they sound different from ech other or even have different volumes.
@@hannes1734 - I understand, I've played the drums for 20 years both double bass and single bass drums. Why have the other bass drum there if you're not using it? For the look of it? It's just stupid to me....and his excuse was even more stupid. You can get a different sound too on a double kick pedal from the slave beater not hitting in the middle of the head. Learn to tune
I agree. I said the same thing. He could have had the same hihat placement with 2 single pedals. It's about getting one kick sound. End of story. He may be used to a double pedal as well. I don't care if a drummer uses a double pedal with 2 kicks for looks. Just don't claim it's because of hihat placement.
Glen is an excellent drummer, he can just play about anything. But what an ugly drumkit, with those big fat silver tubes all over the place. It just looks ridiculous.
@@crimsun7186 those are very good point you have there. So true! What I see a lot , is drummer s triggering the kicks (Daniel Erlandsson,Nicholas Barker, Adrian Erlandsson..
Dave Lombardo has used double bass through out his whole career and managed ok , but I do agree there’s been a number of times that Iv heard saves kit mixed in badly at the expense of his left bass drum .

Nice job Nick!!! We need more of these drum tours.
these are great. drum nerds unite!
what gives away the double bass trick is the reso head not 'shimmering' and reflecting the lights every kick hit...
So glad we got to see Glen play at the end. What a monster player!

He doesn't use any damping on any of his drums either.
I know perhaps my comment comes across wrong

He doesn’t play 230+ bpm tempos so that’s why he doesn’t need them
It's about cutting through the mix lol
Seen him a bunch of times. Great drummer!

I'm a fan of Glen Sobel today I have several effects on the hi-hat for having heard him play on the impellitter battery show
THERE HE IS!!! THAT'S MY DUDE!!!!!😭😍
Awesome thanks to both of u
🙂👍
very nice kit , Glen is a beast!!
Cool I've always wondered about Two Bass Drums and using a double pedal
We're still waiting for the ST reverse dot snare head!
I own a 5.5x14 knurled steel Collector's snare and it's PHENOMENAL !!!!

He used to have this amazing Mapex kit
5:35 ABSOFRIGGINLOOTLY!!...
Couldn't agree more, and that's how I justify all my new cymbals and heads. ;-)
I do genuinely believe it though :-)
It’s also a pain to try and get both bass drums tuned “exactly” the same!! I think the double pedal is a great idea!!
Why did the DW drums came out with the name of the finish called One guy red?
Wonder who the " one guy" is that inspired the color "one guy red" ....can you say Neil Peart
Thank you so much Nick! You EXPOSED HIM!
Does he ever use the floating 10' rack tom at all? I have watched this video a bunch of times...and never seen him hit that 10' tom once.
Is that a zil bel with black tape i see?
Great setup but I’m not sure if Glen glued his wig on straight.
Is that the LP Bell Diablo Cowbell? I had one and sold it to get the new Tommy Lee signature series Cowbell, what a freaking mistake that was...
Big like nice Drums , great vídeo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Glen “gotta change it up” Sobel
Nick D'Virgilio "You" sir are a Monster player too 👍
The beginning was nice cravity blast 🤘🏻👍🏻😂
Glen is a monster on the drums and the fact that he wears an eye brow ring, jncos, and a chain wallet is a flex of sorts lol.
Sobel's face looks like as if it was animated by a Pixar intern.
That’s a ZilBel, right?
0:14 GRAVITY BLAST!!
Glen is fun to watch.
love it!!
Great!
Try a dualist pedal
Awesome drummer love the set up all sounds great I'm just not a fan of that snare sounds but to marching band to me I think Alice needs a mid to low tuning rock sound
That Wig though!

why wil you ever use 2 bassdrums when you have 2 triggers on one bass drum?
I'll bet Alice loves the look of double bass drums.
For looks and it is easier to mix 1 bass drum.
@arthur kitchen here's my drums mix em' 😂😂😂brilliant!
❤😊
It's nice to have a spare bass drum in case 1 goes flat ☝💥:-P
Is Glen wearing a wig!?
it sure looks like it
Oooh!
saw hollywood vampires at helsinki
I'll take Neil Smith over this "hotdog" any day of the week! Some time's less is more. Ugg...
coated heads sound dead to me ! those maple shells want to sing
may sound good with single-ply coated heads, but yeah, he's running those dual-ply G2s.
I bet that's a zil-bell
How many drummers in name bands, play DW...
Must be great deals...🙄
The 2 kick 1 pedal setup is stupid....his excuse is ridiculous

para-diddle
Glen doesn't age at all haha
Hilarious. Two bass drums, but a double pedal on one.
Those drums sound terrible. 😟
Having 2 kicks and a double pedal..doesn't make sense at all

Sorry, but in my personal experience, DW stands for “doesn’t work” - I’ll never own another piece of their junk again.
Great!!!
