The best hands in rock drumming. So relaxed. Mr. Paice, you legend 👍👏👏
Ian Paice is for me the best ever, listening to him since the In Rock album, seen him perform many times, the man is a legend.
Ian Paice is one of the best drummers. He still is and could easily blow younger drummers, who are very popular today, off the stage. My favorite drummer. The living legend.
The best drummer!!!
wonderful authentic individual, absolute legend , thank you Ian !!!!
I met Ian once a few years ago when Purple did the Today Show in the US. He was very nice, very approachable.I always thought he was the best drummer of his era. I really enjoyed this video.
Absolut legend... The audio quality though 😪
Pearl, Paiste, and Pacy the combination that delivers every time, what a utter legend. Drumming, well to me it's so authentic it's ridiculous, no bs, no fancy rubbish, perfect timing, perfect construction, perfect delivery, perfect passion👍
Absolutely insane that he's still going and putting out new music. This is like if Bonham were still alive.
Damn, just imagine what we would’ve gotten from Bonham🥺
Ian's technique is what allowed him to play so furiously for decades without ever having any physical ailments that usually affect musicians who engage in repetitive motion for long periods of time. The guy's a septuagenarian machine..
Nice man and such a great drummer. Love the Pearl drums too.
Ian is the goat! All those old British players are legends but to me Mr. Paice was the initial modern metal drummer because of his speed, technique and ingenuity.
Everybody in Deep Purple was (is) insanely talented and Made In Japan is still one of the best live albums ever recorded because of the sound and the musicianship displayed on it. Whatever combination of drugs they were on, it worked!
DP -MK II always was an all- drinking band !
Nicko Mcbrain🤙
What a legend, still going strong. Humble and great musicianship, such a great spirit! Wish there were more musicians like him around
The audio on the interview is terrible. Love Ian. Thanks for this MD
It sounds like the mics were plugged or something
Hey David, The audio on here is horrible..Any possibility of a re- upload with fixed audio?
😂
Had to turn on subritltles.
2006 metalcore band/every Steve Albini RUclips album quality
Muffled all to hell and sounds like they're having a disussion underwater lol.
Love the subject matter, LOVE Ian, but yeah the audio took a nose dive on this vid for some reason.
They both have mics on and both have terrible sound, someone has completely fucked this up.
Such a gentleman. His own unique voice in a sea of clones. The fact he still tours and plays like he’s 30 to this day is so inspirational.
Fantastic. Huge thanks to Ian, David and Modern Drummer.
Such a humble and nice guy. A true legend and inspiration.
Such a class guy. Saw him perform last year, he's still got it, still in great shape. Over 50 years in the business, touring and recording constantly. That is something to admire.
the anecdotes about the kick drum and his old Lud are a heritage of rock history!
Little Ian is not a double bass drum champion, but his touch, his jazz touch, his incredible touch is unique and inimitable in the hard rock scene!
A true original and a class act all the way! Inspiring to see him still doing his thing!
I saw Ian I'm Hamilton Ontario years ago. Ian was flawless and a real joy to watch him play. It was a total privilege.
My hero drummer, met him once when I was maybe 14. Modelled a lot of my playing technique on him growing up. Playing along to all the albums Highway Star, Fireball, Burn, Made in Japan, who do we think we are. The first ever song I played live in a band was Perfect Strangers.
My favorite Ian Paice setup is the 5 piece kit with "double" cymbal stand for the ride and crash on top - like Made in Japan :D Thanks to Ian for many inspirationel years.
My God, he kicks ass!
Hey David! I’m to see finally your video!!!! See you soon! Thanks again for your help to Deep Purple and Ian!!!
IAN PAICE.
THE GOD
for all the love the world has for John Bonham.
This man should be there as well.
and BILL BRUFORD!!!!
I've opened for them show in Belgrade couple of months ago. Amazing people, crew, techs, everything. All the best!
The bass drum head looks more like a 'Powerstroke' clear than a 'Pinstripe' . I'am happy to see Ian in good shape !
that' the first thing i recognize. the pinstripe have one black ring, the powerstroke 3 have two black rings.
An absolute legend. LOVE his playing . Been playing 45 years and grew up in Chicago playing Blues and Jazz.
Hey I don't play. Many if my family and friends did. And we grew up in Chicago. Many many years ago
Of
mr. Ian Paice is still #1 drummer for me
Ian Paice. Still killing it!
What a timing! I just got back from their concert in Poland. The whole band and Ian are in phenomenal shape. They played a nearly two-hour mega concert. The sound of the drums was amazing 🥁🔥
But the sound of video is terrible😢
Paicey ... true gentlman of rock! Legend.. or a foot as Rodger would say. Leg - end. Thanks for this.
One of the true rock pioneers right there! So much history and so humble and still loves talking drum gear. It's truly awesome. Thank you.
I like listening to Ian talk about his friends he is so down to earth.
Ian takes a lot of myths out of drumming and just makes it fun.
Thank you for all the music over the years.
My drumming hero from the age of 14, which was 1970. I hope that I pass away before he does, I shall be in bits if he goes before me!
It's great to see Ian still kicking ass ! Happy drumming mate.
What a legend of our art form. So lucky to have seen Ian with Deep Purple. What a brilliant drummer.. Do check out his jazz / big band stuff too!
I play Pearl Ian Paice snare, sound is incredibly good!Paicy is my favorite drummer.
excellent thank you for putting this up and out ❤😊❤ ian paice is 1 of my all time favorite drummers ever since the year of 1970 approximately
Will wonders never cease? The modern drummer RUclips channel just keeps getting better and better. Love you guys. Thanks!
I still like his early Deep Purple size kit the best, one tom over the bass drum and two floor toms.
A humble legend. Saw him over the summer in Saratoga NY. Awesome to watch such a great rhythm section.
He's killing it! What a legend
David, you're killing it with these interviews and kit rundowns! Thank you!
This is the best series, Seeing all these legendary drummer and their set ups! Super inspirational
His signature snare is one of the best snares i have ever played.
It has an unique tone and attack.
I bought it after 2 min playing.
He is a very cool humble guy.
Btw I grew up with "in Rock" as a Baby 😂
Was my childhood soundtrack with black sabbath 70 , masters of reality and some other s....
Thank you for the Episode !!
My favorite Deep Purple song is burn. I just loved that song from the first day I heard it, when it came out! Deep Purple was my first hard rock progressive rock band!
There is just something about the sound of those 2002 cymbals. Warm and rich sounding. I've always played Zildjian, but every time I hear those, I want a set. Mmm, mmm!!
Yes me to. Played semi pro for over 30 years but called it a day 6 years ago. I used mainly zildjian with a couple of 2002 crash and China type. But since Iv retired I wished I’d played all paiste. Think they have the edge over zildjian 👍
I love Ian’s playing. I always have, he is/was the best 70s rock drummer, technically great but his own sound, always right in the pocket. I saw him last week with purple. You can see the Ringo vibe, a real band drummer with drum parts that define each song.
IAN PAICE. Full stop.....
🙏🏾🔥🤘🏾
A legend.... and a leftie like me! 🤘🙂👍
What a great interview and rig run down. Thank you so much for doing these David!
DeepPurpleの初期から聴いています。貴方が居たからこそ、素晴らしい音楽に出会えました。
ありがとう、そしていつまでもお元気で!😃👍
Saw him with Whitesnake in West Germany 1981. Very powerful drummer.
Thank you David, excellent interview and kit rundown and Thank You Ian you are a LEGEND!!!!!
Whenever Ian Paice played, I always had a good time with Purple, Gary Moore or Whitesnake.
Wow. Love how his hi, mid, and 10in toms mount around the snare. Looks like a comfortable set up. Awesome
Beautiful kit. I miss Jon Lord rocking out the Hammonds. Still putting on a great show after all these years.
Great interview. Love the information about his toms.
Modern Microphone needed.
Paice is the most underappreciated drummer.
Class act legend.
Hey Modern Drummer, another great video, love to see these great drummers kit rundown and hear them play also. Hope to see Tommy Aldridge, Deen Castronovo and Kelly Keagy on here, I was an 80s headbangers ball wannabe, LOL
Living legend Ian Paice❤
The firts drummer Hero ❤ Ian
He's the main reason I play
ian you are the best still playing pearl, reaally classic set,you are a classic drummer 50 years later rock on ian what a gentileman english drummer!!!!!
legend!!!!!!!!
I remember a time when you'd ask a drummer what the first song that they learned to play on the drums was & the answer would be Smoke on the Water.
We love you Ian !!!
the kick drum is equipped with PowerStroke3, not Pinstripe :)
thanks for the interesting video anyway! Ian Paice and Made in Japan album are one of those who inspired my to play drums
Camera angle from where Ian is standing would be great. Players perspective please! Ian is a legend!
Wow, thanks for profiling a living legend!
My hero.
My fav sets .esp.seein hearin live..bonzo's 73.75 vistalites..n carl palmers metal set 73 thru 78...still have my 68 ludwigs brandnew in feb 68..
Can't ever go wrong with Paiste 2002s!!
You watch Ian play, and regardless of the "odd" configuration of his drum set, you can't help but notice Ian has great technique. Elbows in close to the body, and it is all about wrist action to get the job done. Which this man has done quite well, and continues to do so. And with a last name like that of course you must play Paiste cymbals! lol Ian Paice Rocks!
Talk about being under rated !
Whoa, caught this one immediately. Haha. Thanks for the upload!
Bello/Magnifico.🙏✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️👑
We NEED a Carter Beauford kit tour.
When I see Ian Pace has a time keeper mounted on his high hat I know I need one even if occasionally!
Another stellar video.
Might I suggest choosing a proficient touring drum tech and joining them for a set-up/micing/tuning/re-heading etc.
Maestro ian 💜🥁dp🔝
When are you guys going to interview drummers in the Mexican/Latin music genre?? There's a lot of awesome musicians and awesome drum sets out there that can be reviewed. Intocable, Voz de Mando, Conjunto Primavera....
The guy who played for Pesado on the Mundo de Amor album was a great performer. Haven't followed the band in years but that guy had some chops. In the 90s, I never heard Mexican drummers in conjunto/norteña, etc. styles using China cymbals.
@@anthem74 Mario Padilla.
@@davepeal That's right, thanks. Dude is a great drummer.
Excellent having one of the pioneer drummers of our time still kicking and taking interviews. It's a shame that the audio has put a dent on this". I think his 1973 Ludwig kit (Made in Japan) sounded the best. did he use that 73 kit recording "Machine head"?. I used the CC option and read this entire interview as I watched which was 100% better😃 What is that electronic box under his hi-hat for?
IAN PAICE, UN AUTÉNTICO MAESTRO, Y TAN HUMILDE, AUTÉNTICO, PENSAR QUE POR SU CULPA TOCO LA BATERÍA DESDE 1974!!!!!!!! SOY UN ABUELITO ROCKERO. MI RESPETO Y ADMIRACIÓN PARA ÉL. SIGO APRENDIENDO.
thanks mdo ', the deep ludwig snare', compliments', the set up'! thats sounds so good'! ian doing his drum versions' of some led zeplin would be cool to hear peace
Favoloso Mr IAN
Class Act
Not very many Southpaw drummers, the only other that pops into my head is Jon Dette who's played for Testament, Slayer, Anthrax and White Zombie.
I'm right handed but play drums as a Southpaw, same when I played goal for my hockey team as a kid, used lefty gear and stick because I catch flying pucks faster with my right hand.
Do a Cindy Blackman kit tour next! It's like paying tribute to Tony Williams as well.
Thankfully got to see him live with Gary Moore way back in the 80's wish it was Deep Purple, but, hey.... I'll take what I can get!!!
What a player
Hasn't been using a riser lately. I wonder why. Tremendous player and he is a long term endorser which I like.
There‘s not much to wonder - I saw an interview the other day in which Ian stated, he just likes it better without risers as he feels more „into it“ then… more part of the band so to say.
love how this was recorded underwater
A one of a kind drum outfit. For one, Ian is a lefty. I always found that fascinating. The other thing is how Ian has a Buddy Rich/old school sensibility, with the 26" shallow bass drum and no rack tom-tom on the left side of the bass drum. God forbid, it would get in the way of the low mounted ride cymbal. ~ A Buddy Rich thing....Even his finish choice is old school.
When I heard the "made in Japan" album in the early 70's, I could hear Ian's rudimental approach to snare drumming. I knew he was listening to Buddy.
Groove rock master!
