I worked at Ruger for a year and installed and torqued more ARs than I could even guess. Not once did we ever do the tighten and lose bbl nut thing. We just slid the bbl into the receiver, hand tighten the bbl nut then cranked it down with a torque wrench.( all the while timing the nut and gas tube)
Great innovation in that rail...I'm going to have to go look these folks up and see what they have for the AR15...don't think I'm ready to tackle an AR10 build yet...
Love this channel. It's informative, good videography and well produced...and you save me a fortune! I don't have to do my own T&E of components, and appreciate that you share your lessons learned.
Nice looking rail! But I'm not sure if the quick attach is really that big of a deal if you think about it...most of us don't take apart the upper much after you build it and if you wanted to change the rail it isn't any easier cause you still have to take the barrel nut and everything else off to change it..it's still a awesome rail though, I just don't see how it would benefit much and with the added cost..but for you it's probably better and more useful than others
Nice video NSZ! I know your a great Mega rep/customer and its appreciated. That Fortis rail is nice, but with the mega rails being in my opinion just as nice, but slower to install...what made you choose Fortis over Mega? Thanks again!
Just bought this rail for my first AR10 build because of your video, love it. Amazed how light it is. Have you have any problems with it rotating? I saw fortis has a optional anti rotation nut but wondered if it was even necessary.
Very cool! Do they offer this type of rail in the AR15 rifles? I could see this being handy in a suppressor under the rail mount set up. Sometimes you have to get under the rail to clean threads or whatever. This would be a nice rail for that purpose.
Nope there was no need to. It doesn't require timing and I've installed so many I just went by feel. It would be difficult to over-torque a barrel nut like this one. It needs to be more than hand tight but not cranked on. Very easy.
I've been a skeptic of this concept. The locking devise seems great for stopping front/back movement but not left and right? I think over time(not sure the time) that the tension would loosen up as well. Great idea, but the flaws that come to mind keep me from it.
I see why you ask that, but... I was simply saying it being constantly under tension would cause fatigue. It's not a spring, but even a spring has it's final day. Maybe I'm not understanding how it's works exactly, my understanding is that when clamped that the metal is being squeezed together around the barrel nut?
are there any other rails like this one but with a bigger inner diameter?(1.6" or larger) I'm trying to cover a suppressor but still be able to access the bottom of the can to remove it and put it on other builds.
This took forever to find(not upset, just relieved). heard about this build in another vid u made about this build, talking about the company that did your coating.. while u were talking I swore u said "forward assist" not fortis upper (I replayed like 4x lol) cuz I've never heard of it... its dope.. but how well does it hold zero when removed and put back on?
I bought the 15" version and had a QD sling come out of the mount. no clue how much the rifle weighs. have you have anything similar happen? I'm just extremely upset I dropped my rifle on concrete while just walking with it slung over my back. thanks
If the levers cinch up becomes loose, is there an adjustment to get it back tight again? Just like scope QD levers where you can rotate the hex nut on the opposing side to make the cinch up tighter....Does it have this feature?
Hey NSZ85, thanks again for another great video. So I installed this rail tonight (5.56 version). I really like this rail both in feel and weight. I know it feels 100% solid when the rail is locked down. But...I worry after 500+ rounds if the rail rotates a few mm the MBUS front sight could be off or a zero could be lost on a scope if the mount is on the receiver and rail. Have you had any rotation issues or loss of zero on your sight(s)? Thanks in advance!!
treiz the GB is the same only because my MEGA .308 barrel utilizes the .750 diameter GB. The muzzle device thread pitch is different and so is the barrel nut and rail. There is not much that you can use from an AR-15 on a .308.
+Jason Bateman it's a nut that comes with the rail, I asked Fortis what nut i needed, and they said it come with. they sell the nuts seperatly on the website.
Really skeptical about that Fortis rail locking system. After a year now, how is that system holding up? Is it still secure or has it loosened up a bit from that 308 recoil.
Did you get they're anti-rotational nut or use the one that came with the rail, and have you had any left to right rotation after some use? Still solid?
+nsz85 I only ask cause I also have a 308 barrel in my build and I've been shooting 7.62x51 and it's been blowing out some of the primers and causing the firing pin chanel to clog with the little disks it pops out of the casing. I'm hoping it's just a lot of crap ammo I been buying from bass pro shop for 12 bucks a box. fingers crossed.
why we need to take the rail off frequently after finished the rifle? to change color? use it as a mastubation device while in combat? lol . still video is nicely made and great. but the idea of quick detach the rail is ...... only for islam mastubator. only.

AKFAN FORTYSEVEN same if youve ever changed a tire you can instal a barrel nut 35ft/lbs is nothing. Season threads, tighten, then align
this is a great option when quick access to an adjustable gas block is needed. Mega makes some of the best receivers on the market today.
Very nice, I have the same rail on my Rainier upper. That finish matches the Mega almost perfectly. My next build is a Mega MATEN.
Great innovation in that rail...I'm going to have to go look these folks up and see what they have for the AR15...don't think I'm ready to tackle an AR10 build yet...
Thanks for another great video. I'm seriously considering this rail for my MATEN build.
I have heard excellent reviews of the Mega 308 barrels. Looks awesome man, can't wait to see it complete.
I have too which is why I had to have one. Why not have a MEGA barrel with my MEGA Maten build, right?
Love that rail!
Just came across your channel. Question: don't you have to head space your upper when you install a barrel?
Love this channel. It's informative, good videography and well produced...and you save me a fortune! I don't have to do my own T&E of components, and appreciate that you share your lessons learned.

Ooooooooh im waiting for the torque wrench mafia to pop a testicle. 🤣 as always great video

Ty for the video not much of the fortis mlok rail.
Lol someone is dropping some serious cash. Awesome build man looking forward to seeing it finished.
I will have the complete overview video up in the next few days ;)
nsz85 Can't wait for that next video. I'm inspired to take on the .308 build now!
Very cool! Do they offer this type of rail in the AR15 rifles? I could see this being handy in a suppressor under the rail mount set up. Sometimes you have to get under the rail to clean threads or whatever. This would be a nice rail for that purpose.
So you didn't measure torque at all on that barrel nut?
Nope there was no need to. It doesn't require timing and I've installed so many I just went by feel. It would be difficult to over-torque a barrel nut like this one. It needs to be more than hand tight but not cranked on. Very easy.
Man what a rifle congratz can't wait to see it go bang
That makes two of us!
so ar10 handguard is different from ar15 handguard..is it the tread?? just curios thinking about building ar10..

How often do you remove rails?
I see why you ask that, but... I was simply saying it being constantly under tension would cause fatigue. It's not a spring, but even a spring has it's final day. Maybe I'm not understanding how it's works exactly, my understanding is that when clamped that the metal is being squeezed together around the barrel nut?

Is the lever on the rail only used for ease of installation or is there another intended purpose?
I bought the 15" version and had a QD sling come out of the mount. no clue how much the rifle weighs. have you have anything similar happen? I'm just extremely upset I dropped my rifle on concrete while just walking with it slung over my back.
thanks
That would be awesome for changing calibers from 556 to 68 real quick
Waiting until they come out with the 556 version!
If the levers cinch up becomes loose, is there an adjustment to get it back tight again? Just like scope QD levers where you can rotate the hex nut on the opposing side to make the cinch up tighter....Does it have this feature?
have you experienced any rotation while using it?
How do you like that rail compared to the mml upper on your other Maten build? TIA
Hey, are u planning in looking at the palmetto state armory .308 lower?
Have you put up the follow up video yet? I can't find it.
Love it !
Looks like quite the beast.
Can't find that Fortis Switch rail anywhere...
Hey NSZ85, thanks again for another great video. So I installed this rail tonight (5.56 version). I really like this rail both in feel and weight. Joshua Solomon I have not experienced any issues. Fortis also sells and anti rotation barrel nut that you can use if you are really worried.
No anti-rotation feature?
So, the GB and FH are the same as an AR15, but not the barrel nut, so I could not use an AR15 handguard with this upper?
treiz the GB is the same only because my MEGA .308 barrel utilizes the .750 diameter GB. The muzzle device thread pitch is different and so is the barrel nut and rail. There is not much that you can use from an AR-15 on a .308.
nsz85
I can understand not wanting to have AR15 FH on an AR10, is the barrel nut diameter different on AR10?
That's one nice rail !
I agree!
Could you use this rail with the Adams Arms XLP gas piston kit?
PRETTY BAD ASS RAIL WHATS THE RETAIL PRICE FOR THAT??
I got mine here: www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=4493
Are you serious.
That's it.
Please keep us updated after you send some down range. Curious to see how the rail holds up. Great idea. ..
Can you advise what barrel nut you have used here? Love the fact the gas tube just goes right on top & you aren't aligning anything.
+Jason Bateman it's a nut that comes with the rail, I asked Fortis what nut i needed, and they said it come with. they sell the nuts seperatly on the website.
Do you think Mega is a top brand for lowers?
Absolutely. Every lower I own except one is a MEGA. MEGA is what happens when an aerospace company makes AR-15 receivers.
Really skeptical about that Fortis rail locking system. After a year now,
how is that system holding up? Is it still secure or has it loosened up a bit from that 308 recoil.
+Tenwalls Zero issues.
Did you get they're anti-rotational nut or use the one that came with the rail, and have you had any left to right rotation after some use? Still solid?
bravest81 I did end up getting the anti-rotational nut and I have had zero issues. The rail is rock solid.
Thanks for the info man! I'm blaming your .308 build videos and Sootch's for giving me the bug. Started ordering parts 2 days ago! Thanks again.
I went to the link. That is the anti-rotational barrel nut that I got.
Will a Fortis rail work on an M&P 10?
Does the rail come with the barrel nut or do I have to buy it separately?
+60anthonyh It comes with one.
My only concern with this rail is that the lock mechanism adds unnecessary weight.
This rail, as is, weighs less than most of my other rails. I am not sure if you are actually aware of how much it weighs.
What reaction rod do you use for .308?
SBoregon1 The Geissele .308 recation rod. They make them for both 5.56 and .308.
you shoot 7.62x51 in that barrel or just 308 win???
+gotdrift8 It can shoot both.
+nsz85 I only ask cause I also have a 308 barrel in my build and I've been shooting 7.62x51 and it's been blowing out some of the primers and causing the firing pin chanel to clog with the little disks it pops out of the casing. I'm hoping it's just a lot of crap ammo I been buying from bass pro shop for 12 bucks a box. fingers crossed.
iam guessing thats not the one you posted on ar15.com
Correct. This is the one I ordered to replace that one :)
I thought that a barrel nut needed to be tightened with a torque wrench!???
+Shawn Sears You are correct.
Would be better with anti-rotation tabs.
Im building same thing
I really need to build a 308 now
I support this statement.
why we need to take the rail off frequently after finished the rifle? to change color? use it as a mastubation device while in combat? lol . still video is nicely made and great. but the idea of quick detach the rail is ...... only for islam mastubator. only.
For cleaning and access to the gas block. It also makes for easier and quicker installation.
Too Big a Gap there - !
YMMV.
