What you hear around 8:10 (Siyeon's phrase in the chorus) is a so-called Neapolitan chord. The song is in G# minor, while an A major chord is played in that line. The note "A" is not in the G# scale and therefore has an unsettling effect. Since the classical era the Neapolitian chord has been used to prepare for the ending of a part. The songwriters for Dreamcatcher a skilled composers, they know most of the tricks in the book. I had to do a bit of research myself to give you this explanation. Yep, the MV is definitely inspired by the Shining. Dreamcatcher debuted on a Friday the 13th - very fitting. 😉 The MV is full of details. Even the pictures on the walls. The next one, Good Night, follows up directly from here. Remember the music box theme!
Great reaction! Your "Toy" comment, in reference to the Music box, is interesting given that the intro for their Second Single album is "My Toys". I highly recommend the Intro's as part of the listening experience; they are amazing instrumental pieces that set the mood for the album.
Excellent start into the first series! As you noted there are several good guides out there for you to learn more about the group; however, if you are concerned about spoilers, then your best bet is the insomicsy series "This is ..." (2021) which covers each of the members in individual videos. The overall guides, in contrast, will generally play a bit of each title track (and some play the entire chorus for each song). The "This is ..." series will avoid spoiling the title tracks' music if that bothers you at all. The earlier 2020 version of the "This is ..." series also includes a final video for the group as a whole which has a little of the music but much less than most guides. I would temper your expectations for the narrative in the various series. The songs themselves are generally good to great, but for me at least the narratives are meant to be more suggestive and dreamlike than a coherent story arc. The individual members in the Nightmare series each do represent a specific fear, and you can piece together a bit of narrative but much of it is not really that clear which has not stopped the theory crafters among us InSomnia from posting thick tomes about it. I am genuinely looking forward to your reactions and analyses.

Yeah, I know that they're not always the best. But someone told me that some of the MVs have captions with the members names for their parts to hopefully that will help me connect voices to names/faces
@@AntiSocialPlanet The MVs in the Nightmare series don't have the names unfortunately. But Deja Vu and Scream do. For Boca I recommend choosing the subtitles labeled 'English (United Kingdom)'. But if you do guides to learn the faces you will start to learn voices by recognizing them in MVs.
dreamcatcher \:D/ wow your lyrical interpretation is top notch if no one gave you the heads up ;) as you mentioned, before dreamcatcher 5 of the members were part of minx which did the stereotypical sounds and concepts typical of a kpop girl group. in part because they are from a very small company with limited resources to promote and in part because that concept/sound didn't stand out, minx failed. whereas big companies discard failed groups like a worthless asset, the ceo of dreamcatcher did the unthinkable and gave them a second chance. that is also part of the reason for the name... to give the original members a second chance to 'catch' their dreams of being singers. no one knows what happened behind closed doors, but some members were into rock/metal and their ceo was also a rock fan so that may have played a part in using a genre that was unpopular in korea. so chase me is as you loosely described about making your own path despite external pressure/influence and to be so impactful that others would have to 'chase you'. one of their original goals was to make rock more popular in korea. it's been a long slow climb, but after being ignored in their native country for the first 3-4 years of dreamcatcher's existence, the industry has finally taken notice due to their popularity overseas so much so that other girl groups have started to mix in rock and darker concepts into their work. that's the short version lol and like a lot of the imagery you talked about in the lyrics, there's a lot more. for example the 7 games are a nod to the 7 members but is also referenced later as 7 colors and a rainbow to symbolize diversity. after you check out enough of their discography, you will see why. many of dreamcatcher's songs have a recurring theme. it's a little more abstract in chase me but in many of their other songs it's much more obvious. a key central theme in many of dreamcatcher's songs is to never give up on your dreams but more importantly to retain your own identity in its pursuit. while the visual plot in the nightmare series uses a lot of typical horror tropes, you will eventually notice that the real nightmare they are describing is being trapped in a world where you lost your sense of identity and the ambition to follow your dreams.

1. Chase Me (their first released mv after their re-debut as Dreamcatcher, but chronologically this is the second after the Fly High mv)
2. Good Night
3. Fly High (the prequel of all the stories in their mv chronologically)
4. You and I
5. What
6. Piri
B. NON-RELATED MV
1. Deja Vu (this mv is a soundtrack from a video game called King's Raid)
2. R.o.s.e Blue (this mv is also a soundtrack for a video game called Girl Cafe Gun)
3. BEcause
C. DYSTOPIA TRILOGY
1. Scream
2. Boca
3. Odd Eye
D. APOCALYPSE
1. Maison
For their Japanese albums, you can also react to their mv :
1. Breaking Out
2. Endless Night
3. No More
4. Eclipse (this mv is a soundtrack for an anime called King's Raid : Successor of the Will)
And they also released a mv called SHADOW (there are 2 versions, which are ORIGINAL version and SLOW version) as a soundtrack for a Korean horror-thriller drama called Dark Hole. You can also react to the mv and I promise you will be amazed by their strong yet beautiful vocals. I strongly recommend for you to watch that drama, I can guarantee you will feel thrilling and breath-taking by watching it.
Thank you again for this reaction video. I really hope you'll reacting their videos more. And one thing I can guarantee to you : All of their mv are TOTALLY AMAZING AND ROCK AS HELL!😎🤟
Thank you for analyzing my ult kpop group. A couple things that comes to mind:
1. That too weird to live etc writing in the background
2. The monitor lights reflected from your glasses. Kinda distracting ngl😅
1. Oh yeah, sometimes I forget about it 😅 It's actually got a bunch of references on it
2. Yeah, I hear that a lot but I can't see without my glasses and it's expensive to replace lenses so the weird reflection will have to stay for a while
Why you suddenly mentioned about symbols like half note and whole note 😂 and it was major not minor. But thanks for reacted Dreamcatcher! 😁
Oops 😅 I was trying to pull what little music theory I know to be more understandable but I guess it didn't work
find your dreamcathcer bias ( favorite ) is nearly impossible... you'll see... but looking faward for your opinion and if u have any quetion
the dreamcatcher fans are realy nice and would love to answer, me included
I tend to struggle settling on a bias anyways 🙃 Never recorded the struggle though so it will be interesting to have video proof of the journey 😅
the man (who killed the girls) -the symbolic as 'the industry'
i interpret the messages as 'the kpop industry are kinda boring'...
they killed the girls (as minx -decided to disband)... so yeah,
dreamcatcher debut like fireworks... took people by shocked ;)))))
it's their instinct to survive in this industry... the girls rebirth as seven spirits: dreamcatcher ,
they haunting the industry - with their anti-mainstream concept & unique sound ;)))
at the end 'the man' smiled sinically ----- to be continued.
The man didn't kill the girls, just investigating them.
@@kevindean0000 well that's ok too. it just my own theory tho ;)))
@@natusvero If you keep a sharp eye out during the video "Dreamcatcher(드림캐쳐) 1st Concert 'Welcome to the Dream World'" you'll see a newspaper clipping that shows a photo of the missing girls next to news about the Titanic sinking so that places Fly High over 100 years ago, so that's be hard for that guy to have got them, plus we know they were cursed to the Dreamworld and not killed.
@@kevindean0000 thank you for the information
"haunting the industry" why do I love that so much?? 😅
I like your in-depth takes, its an interesting perspective. DC do a good job, its interesting to see them become less literal later in the nighmare series. also do you like the girl group loona? you talk like a loonaverse theorist already is why i ask lol. usually i only see people digging into kpop lore and lyrics this deeply when in reference to loona. either way im excited to see what you think of the twists and turns to come for DC!
I actually don't know anything about Loona. I've probably heard some of their songs but that's about it 😅
